My Top 50 Coasters - 2023 Edition 

Seeing Joker move down from the top 30 hurts, but i love seeing it in your top 50. It’s truly an amazing RMC

My top of the list is the Voyage, this ride was the definition of absolute perfection, the ride is like it never ends. And it only gets better and better each time I ride it.

After rides like Arieforce, Velocicoaster, and Iron Gwazi, Steel Vengeance is somehow still my favorite as well

Sheeesh makin us feel old with the "6 years running" steel vengeance lol. I totally agree. I think it is the fury325/velosicoaster of the RMCs. The speed, intensity, world record amount of air time, 2+ minute ride. It's AWESOME. Literally best in the world. It's so hard to beat.

The efficiency to get through that many coasters in such a short time without it feeling rushed is very commendable.

Glad to see that Cannibal is back in the top 25, and even better, it's higher than TMNT. Although I never would have suspected that it would have been higher than Wildcats Revenge.

Fury 325 remaining #2 warms my heart so much. Fury is absolute bliss, and I've ridden Steel Vengeance. I only have SteVe #1 because it's...SteVe. Fury 325 is #2 as well. I always anticipate these videos late in the year and this is no exception!

Thanks for ranking Powder Keg in the last vid and Outlaw and TT in this one. Bring the family back to SDC next year for Fire in the Hole and let Amy ride some in the newly named Fire District. If you hear singing, that will be a rotation where I’m working. Hope to see y’all next year!

I will always appreciate the love for Raging Bull. Just recently posted my updated top 20 and boy did my first visit to Kings Island and my return to Cedar Point make quite the impact on the list.

The biggest shock for me here is Diamondback. Wow, you really love that coaster.

Agree with this entire list! I love Wicked Cyclone & its truly an elite coaster. I rode Nitro a ton this year, & I'm not a fan at all I think it was way worse than Appollo's Chariot. I would've also put Cyclone at Coney Island in the top 20.

I definitely have a mixed list relative to yours (similar coasters but in very different spots) however ArieForce One is also EXACTLY at my #3 spot after 10 rides this year…. Such an awesome coaster!

I never thought in my lifetime I would have the same top three as a coaster enthusiast… We have the same exact top three! And I agree on every account on every reason for the top three being where they are. I never thought that would happen it’s a miracle.

Was looking forward to this and you did not disappoint. Trying to plan what parks we're gonna hit for 2024 and you've given me a lot to think about! (Velocicoaster is my current #1, but I've also only been on about 1/5 of your total list - was happy to see my home park's El Toro so high, but even I haven't been on it in years due to its recent history, I hope it still holds up!) It's been years since I've been on Wicked Cyclone, but that was my first RMC when I rode it, and then Twisted Timbers topped it years later and then Wildcat's Revenge topped both for me this year. But I look at that and I think....whatever RMC I'm riding at the time is probably my favorite, so there ya go! Can't wait to get on Steel Vengeance and Iron Gwazi.

I love it when the grass grows around new coasters the years after it opens. I notice it with Orion.

My ranking is very similar and your lists always give me ideas for my future coaster trips! We are going to Orlando soon, and purposely booked flights with a long Atlanta layover just to hit ArieForce one!

steve really did live up to the hype this year. as a somewhat larger gentleman i was afraid the lapbar was going to use my stomach like a boxing speed bag like El toro did and twisted timbers sometimes does, but i was very glad that wasn't the case. i should probably get back on the treadmill though

I plan on doing a trip this summer to Kennywood, Cedar Point, and Kings Island. It's been 25 years since my only trip to Kennywood. 15 years since my only trip to Cedar Point. Never been to Kings Island. I already know the highlight of the trip will be my reunion with Steel Vengeance (also my #1). I rode it only once, but it was magical. Good List! I expected Pantheon to be higher. Be honest...does theming factor in your rankings at all? Cuz Pantheon's zero theming doesn't help it.

Phantoms revenge is perfectly placed. I know i always wish it was longer when i ride it. Hopefully kennywood brings another top tier coaster to the burgh soon. If they do, kennywood would probably become a premier park like hershey

Great job! I always look forward to this list. I can’t really argue with these ratings. Everything except for two are spot on, for me. I would rank Millennium Force in my top 10. It was hauling when we went in August. I would also move Apollo’s Chariot into my top 30. Steel Vengeance is also my #1. I haven’t ridden anything yet that can compete with it, especially night rides.

I don't hate Rip Ride Rocket but it kind of hurt my heart that you put it above Phantom's Revenge.

Great list. I’ve rode 87 of your 100. I guess my biggest difference is rip ride rockit. I found it rough. I’m in the camp for universal to replace it. But overall your list and video are quite entertaining and a must watch.

Velocicoaster is ranked too low. I haven't ridden nearly as many coasters as you but I am a coaster enthusiast. I rode Velocicoaster and Airieforce One this year. I love Airie, it will always be my favorite experience on a coaster because my son and I got VIP access for back to back.......to back to back rides on all the seats by ourselves. However, we both agree, as great of an experience as we had and what a great, world-class coaster Airie is, in the middle of Jonesboro Georgia 🤯, it doesn't stack up to Velocicoaster. You mention Velocicoast had good theming, I would humbly correct you by saying it has maybe the bast theming of any coaster anywhere. And the launches prior to elements put it miles ahead of Airie from a ride experience standpoint. Love your work.

As a Carowinds home parker with countless Fury rides since 2015 I can confidently say post crack fury is at its best and it dosent even touch velocicoaster.

You have me contemplating going to the cedar fair park in Northern California. Also I need to take some serious vacation time and catch up on my coasters.

I expected Phoenix to fall a bit and was pleasantly surprised to see it get a minor bump up instead.

Who knew one of the best coasters in the world would be based on the voyage of the pilgrams??? Love Holiday World, love the Thanksgiving themed area in general. Thunderbird is my favorite wing coaster, and I LOVE a wing coaster. Not to mention the excellent turkey roundup dark ride :D

I've only been on 100 coasters. Phantom's Revenge is my top 20. Its also at my home park. When i see people who have higher coaster counts have it in their top 50. I feel proud to only live 15 minutes away from it.

Was going to get on Shellraiser this weekend but the park extended its maintenance that was supposed to end the 15th by a month, guess I'll need to wait another year

Your favourite top two coasters you've ridden are also my top two I've ridden in the same order! Diamondback is my third favourite, but I've never ridden Arie Force One, Wicked Cyclone, The Voyage, Velocicoaster, Iron Gwazi or Lightning Rod. Great video, thanks for posting!

Great video, Chris! My personal top 10 after my rides this year, after an 18 year stop between: 10. The Beast, Kings Island No one will ever say that the Beast isn’t a legendary ride, especially me, considering it’s just 16 days older than me! The first half is a lot smoother, but the helix beat me up pretty bad. But when I go back in the summer, plan to get another ride on this monster, see if it rises. 9. Vortex, Kings Island The only defunct coaster in my top 10, I absolutely loved Vortex and one of my greatest regrets is not getting one last ride in before it was torn down. 8. Rock n Roller Coaster, Disney’s Hollywood Studios A ride that reminded me a lot of Flight of Fear at Kings Island, I enjoyed the launch and the inversions were pretty smooth. The issue is that the theming just feels..off. 7. Flight of Fear, Kings Island Formerly my #1 coaster, this was my first ride after 18 years and I was glad to get it. But considering what lies ahead, it’s just ok. Still a rush! 6. The Incredible Hulk Coaster, Universal’s Islands of Adventure If B&M were to bring a coaster like this to the Vortex plot of land, I would be completely satisfied with it! They won’t, and I totally get why, but so intense, such great elements and glossy smooth! 5. TRON Lightcycle/Run, Disney’s Magic Kingdom If Rock n Roller Coaster had this kind of theming, I likely would have ranked it higher, but Disney and Vekoma came together to deliver something special here and the theming and ride is amazing, a must do at Magic Kingdom! 4. Orion, Kings Island The tallest and fastest coaster on my list, I enjoyed Orion more than I thought I would. Earlier this year I had ranked it one higher but after second thoughts, I ranked it one lower. Still an awesome experience but considering what lies ahead, just ok. 3. Banshee, Kings Island My very first B&M invert, this ride simply blew me away with its smoothness and elements, a definite must do at Kings Island. 2. Diamondback, Kings Island This was my #1 coaster for about 4 months, and my favorite coaster at Kings Island! Simply amazing airtime, I never felt my butt in the seat 90% of the ride and I can’t wait to get more rides in 2024! 1. Velocicoaster, Universal’s Islands of Adventure This is the total package. Great theming, intensity, smoothness, a ride that leaves you wondering just what the hell happened to you when you get off the ride. It’s gonna take a while before I get back to get more rides, and I admit to wanting rides on RMCs but hopefully I get another shot at Velocicoaster before I get to be too old!

Interesting choices. I've honestly lost track at this point but have you ridden Pipeline at Sea World Orlando yet? Guardians of the Galaxy at Epcot? I thought I might luck out and get to go to Busch Gardens Williamsburg this Fall but the weather was just SO dicey when I was visiting and I had a couple of medical issues that made me question trying to walk that park in November so Pantheon and Dark Coaster will have to wait for my first rides. On the other hand I did get to go back to SWO and BGT for the first time in two decades and I'm so glad I did. As I said I don't have even a 10th as many credits but my list for the coasters I've ridden that I can remember well enough to give an honest impression of them is below. I left my Space Mountain credit and a couple of other small ones off because I was just too young to remember much beyond being afraid at the time. 1 Velocicoaster, tied with Iron Gwazi 1 Iron Gwazi, tied with Velocicoaster 2 Cosmic Rewind-GotG, best dark ride coaster 3 Pipeline, the new car design is legit 4 Hagrids, two coasters in one with the different riding positions 5 Manta, best flying 6 Alpengeist, best suspension 7 Superman Ultimate Flight (SFOG), bumped down by Manta 8 Mako, best hyper 9 The Mummy, bumped down the rankings by Cosmic Rewind but still a great coaster 10 Griffon, best dive 11 Kumba, still great after 30 years 12 The Incredible Hulk, how is Kumba still as smooth as the Hulk when Hulk has been retracked? 13 Rip Ride Rocket, not as rough as people claim it is. 14 Cheetah Hunt, a solid coaster just too many good ones above it 15 Montu, overrated suspension, I have no idea why so many rate this higher than Alpengeist... 16 The Big Bad Wolf, god how I miss this coaster 17 Gringots, great theming saves it from being lower 18 Goliath(SFOG), hypers aren't my thing 19 Apollo's Chariot, hypers really really aren't my thing 20 The Georgia Scorcher, comfortable and good for a stand up, hope they give it pipeline trains some day 21 Batman the Ride(SFOG), forces are a bit too much and the first drop is pittifully short 22 Loch Ness Monster, sorry Nessy but the competition has gotten really fierce 23 Verbolten, not as good as the Wolf was 24 Ice Breaker, the most disappointing "new" coaster I've ridden. It must have been nearly unbearable with the horse collar restraints. 25 Kraken, wow this thing needs a refurbishment in the worst way. Ditching the horse collars would help a lot! 26 Flight of the Hypogriffin, surprisingly good for a kids coaster 27 Mindbender(SFOG), ruined by the new trains, SFOG please FIX this MISTAKE 28 Scorpion, still has the old train but it's too short 29 Python, yawn, no great loss here 30 Dahlonaga Mine Train, yawn plus bumpy and uncomfortable 31 Ninja(SFOG), ouch hardest riding steel coaster ever 32 Great American Scream Machine(SFOG), ouch ouch 33 Georgia Cyclone, that's it I'm suing for whiplash! Shiekra and Cobra's Curse got left off this list because they got rained out before I could ride them unfortunately.

I would go on pretty much any coaster instead of Rip Ride Rocket...sad to see it ranked higher then Monster in my home park! Glad Monster made your top 50 though :)

When it comes to El Toro, the 2nd to back row (row 17) is the way to go.

Ha, ha, Wicked Cyclone is still at #5 worldwide! This is actually my favorite coaster and I always figured it was because I just didn't have that many creds, but maybe not. It's just so wild.

So far my favorite coaster is probably gonna stay steel Vengeance, i really can not change my opinion on it as it's just a perfect ride, but an unpopular opinion would be putting voyage in 2nd

Velocicoaster, along with Arieforce 1, Steel Vengeance, El Toro, and Fury 325, also rank in my top 10. I will be riding Voyage next summer, along with Twisted Collosus and X2, so I am interested to see where they will rank for me.

I need to know if home park suffering is a thing: I actually think Fury is kinda... just okay. But nothing too special. Carowinds is my home park, so of course I've been on it a number of times at this point. Is this just home park syndrome shaping my opinion? I know it's widely loved. Solidly agree on Arie though: I got 11 rides on it on a blistering hot July afternoon. Insanity. Worst part though was baking in the sun on the break run outside the station ha!

I loved El toro in 2006 and Kingda Ka in 2006, I loved Velocicoaster and it stands as my number 1 and unfortunately I can’t ride coasters anymore due to severe motion sickness and I’m devastated because I want to go to epic universe next year!

I rode Rip rocket this year and it was terrible. I went in trying to enjoy it but it was so rough and all the mid course break runs killed any momentum for me. I hated my 1 ride so much I never tried it again in my 3 day there

surprised to see Raging Bull on here. It's one of my favorites but my last ride was pretty slow feeling. I wish they could loosen up the trims a bit

If you go on the Universal Orlando annual pass pages, everyone hates on RRR. I personally love it. Also having been on SV and Gwazi I have to give Gwazi the nod. When you get a ride running full speed on it the thing just shreds the course. It’s insane. I also have Velocicoaster ahead of SV. Need to get on Arieforce One though hopefully next year

I can’t believe you put Millennium force over Maverick but everyone has differing opinions. For me personally and everyone I’ve gone to Cedar Point with we all like Maverick even over Steel Vengeance.

Since magic mountain is my home park and X2 being my favorite ride of all time. It is my dream to go to cedar point because steel vengeance is the top of my bucket list coasters. And I know it could possibly be my number 1 also

I believe that they retracked outlaw run this year, got a whole bunch of rides on it this year and each one was extremely smooth.

If you like Magnum XL so much, maybe you could do another European Trip to the UK for The Big One, you could then also do Hyperia, The Smiler, Nemesis Reborn, Icon etc… Chessington World of Adventures, Thorpe Park, Drayton Manor, Alton Towers, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Flamingo Land… some smaller ones could be like LegoLand Windsor, Oakwood Theme Park and Paultons Park. You could also do Ireland too with Emerald Park.

I have ridden all but Arie Force One in your Top 10, and most of my Top 10 is the same coasters as yours, just in a different order...I have Skyrush, Maverick, and X2 in mine, with Wicked Cyclone at 11 and Twisted Colossus at 15. After that it's all over the place, a ton of variety in how one person would rank their top 100 vs. another. But I think there's a definite population of coasters that ~70% of people could probably agree on for the Top 10, i.e. any 2 people's Top 10 would probably share 7 coasters or so (at least within the US).

I can honestly say that i have a really hard time finding a coaster that is better than Steel Vengeance. Maybe its home park bias, but I realy dont think so. It is just the most complete package of a coaster there is. Has the amazing air time, its whippy, has a couple inversions, and has a few lateral moments as well. Still my #1 overall too. I did have to debate between Vengeance, and I-305 this year though.

As a Universal passholder, Rip Ride Rockit being top 50 in anything is absolutely crazy to me.

We can do this Fury 325! He admitted you were close! I still have the exact same top 2 but I will be getting key California parks as well as Lagoon and hopefully KD and BGW. Something has to give and don’t make it be your support beam! 😂

That's the weirdest top 50 ever, but still fun to watch. The biggest surprise was not seeing SkyRush at the top.
