I feel the need to address some of these comments to hopefully cut down on some of the misinformation seeing as the video is gaining traction. My sister is not a bird person (obviously) so yes she doesn't quite understand his body language and how to approach him. However, I obviously do. Just watch a few of my videos to get an idea about that. Placing his beak on or around hands or to touch things is not out of the ordinary and is NOT biting. Toucans do not have hands and therefore use their bills a lot to feel or learn about things and their environment. just because he's 'biting' does not indicate aggression with toucans. These are gentle grasps. The snapping, however, was more aggressive. At no point was he forced to do anything he wasn't willing to do. If he was uncomfortable he would have simply jumped to the other part of the room. That being said, he was mildly uncomfortable and I was aware of this and wanted to push his limits in a safe space with someone I knew I could trust. His general calm demeanor and personal story would make him a great bird to do public demonstrations with and I want to get him comfortable with being a little outside of his comfort zone and socialized to strange people because theres even more of that in public. There was about an hour of him sitting with us with no interaction from her before the video and after the video he continued spending time with her and eventually even let her pet him for quite a while. Parrot body language does not completely transfer to toucans. Toucans are generally more brave and assertive. Anyways, hope that makes some sense to you guys and explains his behavior a little better!
Have you considered bird diapers for him? And no, I’m NOT joking. I had Show King pigeons as pets, and they wore diapers (ones meant for bantam chickens) when they were out of the cage.
I'm from Brazil. Here in Brazil, there are 22 species of toucans, it is a very popular bird here. Congratulations on being an animal lover, for creating and preserving!
had a toucan on my arm in canada ,,freezing cold,,bird on my arm ,on the skin ,,his talons started cutting into my arm ,,it toucan" 3 of them to get him off ,,and the guy kept saying he dont mean to harm you ,,it was very painful ,i cudda sued them ,,it was too cold to think ,,
@@eenavid toucans dont usually like the cold, they're tropical birds- And you cant sue for that reason. Honestly, if you sued, you could have the toucan locked up, and it wont be able to see people. I honestly think you're lying there, but plz dont attack me I've had enough people do that. Most of them for reasons were their own fault. Edit: Why would you have it on your bare skin if it's cold??!?!?!?!?!?!? You should've been wearing a coat or jacket, another reason to think you made that up.
@@inaudible3381 ,,hi i can tell you the incident with the toucan was not made up ,,,i do have a photo just before the claws closed on my arm ,,i cant rember now re the jacket ,it may have been inside and heated for this tropical bird ,,,the sue thing was just a jokey aside ,,,
Im amazed how BIG his beak is and how much fine control he has with it.. these birds are amazing. I've never seen one or watched a video of one till now.
The beak was in pretty rough shape in T-Pacs first vid, but I think a better nutrition and the owner applying oil to the beak (I think he said coconut) helped it repair itself. When birds beaks look like that, it's usually because they don't have a good surface to rub it against. If it's concrete, it can do some damage but good at remove giant flakes so one or two in a cage seems to be fine but I like using a long softwood perch since it seems to buffs a lot of the beak damage out.
How do I already have 130 likes? I was expecting like 5 haha. Your next toucan (if you decide to start rescuing them like you mentioned) you gotta name it toucan sam
What a beautiful bird. Most of the time he doesn't really seem aggressive or defensive, more inquisitive. What's a bird supposed to do to examine things after all, other than looking at it and gnawing at it? At the same time he's gotta be cautious, of course. "You don't examine me, I examine you!"
I think he finds her weird sounds threatening. He's looking great. I really enjoyed watching him attack your sister. I also appreciate that she didn't flip out about the bites.
It's so weird for me to be scrolling through RU-vid in Japan, see a bunch of cool toucan videos, see that you're introducing your sister, and then realize that I know her. What a small world.
I would absolutely love to see this bird in person! I wouldn’t be afraid! I read Scarlet in blue and gold macaw‘s in my younger years. It would be a joy to see and handle this gorgeous toucan!😍
I’m surprised she kept trying and didn’t get scared of him. That’s the only way they’ll ever warm up to a new person. If you’re constantly scared of any pet they seem to never like you.
@@mukulkumar8681 I see that too. When people won't give an animal space and won't take "no" for an answer I'm like "I wonder what they're like with people" lol
I just noticed the flaw in my thinking: somehow I thought you had commented on her being cute, and I wanted to say that the bird is cute as well. - But it turns out, that this is not what you said (and neither what I said). Sometimes my reading (and commenting) “between the lines” picks up nuances that were only in the eye of the beholder. - So yes: You are right, the sister shows more patience and tolerance than the bird, in fact the bird struggles to tolerate her at all (- but does so out of curiosity I think).
Stadtpark90 lol no worries bro. I assumed you had way more experience with toucans than I do (which is zero experience) and maybe you knew that most toucans would have ripped her eyes out or something but this one was nice by comparison haha.
I do applaud her willingness to take the hits like a champ, and you're guidance on letting her know that its just his way of seeing what makes her let him have his way!
I dont get toucan's.. they have everything about them screaming "hi, I'm a cute bird" except for a giant ass lobsterclaw looking beak.. I'll never get quite used to looking at them...
I love the way Ripley gently picks the blueberries off her hand, and when he catches them he rolls them to the end of his beak before swallowing them. He is such a beautiful fellow.
@N.A.R Channel you realize i commented this like 30 minutes after the video came out right? i'm pretty theres atleast a hundred comments similar to mine but you don't see me getting all "don't copy me you unoriginal pieces of trash" so like :/
@N.A.R Channel whatever u say mr.i'm the comment police. also plagurism is the use of copyrighted matierial without permission so 1) this isn't copy righted matierial and 2) i'm not copying any one :/
N.A.R Channel no one cares, he thought it was funny and had the same idea to comment it. i bet you must be fun at parties. fucking loser arguing over a comment
"Just close your eyes and see what happens." ... "And in other news a woman was horribly mauled by her brother's toucan. Doctors are uncertain as to whether they can reconstruct her nose."
@@OscarsMama no offense but everyone that keeps a cassowary as a "pet bird" or, like in that case, "breeds" them outside of Australia deserves nothing less. I'm sorry for his family but that's what you get for keeping a fucking dinosaur as a pet.
Because Autism is a laughing matter. I love how people think it's ok to make reference to Autism as a joke or handicap. These people are ignorant and if they have ever lived with someone Autistic, they would learn very quickly that it's no joking matter.
Criz yeh, its ignorant to the initial disability; but there are also plenty of autistic people I’ve known through the years who also really don’t get upset, or offended when others use the title to reference something. In fact I have a couple close friends with Asperger’s syndrome; and one actually uses the label about himself frequently, to poke fun at his own goofs. It all really depends on the company, and what they deem as humor; vs what offends them. Personally I agree it’s rather vulgar when specific peoples or inabilities are mocked among a public audience, in a casual entertainment video; of course I also think its a waste of time trying to mend peoples commentary through social media, when 90% of the time the people who speak up often become the butt of a joke in an endless sea of trolls lol.
@@criz6595 My brother is autistic, I still laughed, and he doesn't mind the word at all, because I know the word has a double meaning in society. People still use it because it was used for so long to essentially call people stupid, people still use it out of habit and in their mind aren't thinking "autistic people are stupid" they're just thinking "this person, animal, etc. is stupid." It's not about whether you live with someone autistic or not, it's about whether you have a fucking stick up your ass or not.
thanks for showing us the bird since the head and beak are amazingly beautiful. I was able to handle owls, hawks, falcons and even a vulture. The feathers around the eyes are amazing to see close-up; so intricate and gorgeous. Falcons are very alert (they watch You). The Great Horned Owl was the King raptor in the group. The vulture's nostril goes all the way through side to side. Otherwise he was just heavy.
Toucan's beaks look like they don't belong on their heads and it's adorable. Imagine having two specialized teeth sticking out of the front of your face... like five times the size of your face.
maybe he dislikes her body wash, shampoo or perfume, I know my cockatiel I had growing up was sensitive to any smells that were floral, she loved the fruity smells.
He was trying to get the shiny! HA. I'm a dog person like your sister, but I'm becoming more and more fascinated with birds because of channels like yours. Toupac is a treasure, and you guys seem like fun people.
7:30 Bird: I don’t like her Human: what Bird: I don’t like her Human: why didn’t you try to bite me when we first met? Huh Bird: *nibbles* cause I like you
I just randomly stumbled upon this video. What a colourful and fantastic looking pet :) I think a couple of days, or even weeks, would be best to aquaintance someone to even animals. Anyone (animals included) that attatched to someone will notice when some _other_ creature is also close to you, but if they haven't met before, behaviour resembling jealousy may surface. At the very least extra scepticism/protectiveness. May be because owner/"dad"/"mom" just _expects_ you to be thrilled and friendly to this random new person, and doesn't take needed measures. I'm trying to not project human behaviour onto other creatures lol but this _is_ what happens more often than not, if some owner tries to rush things with an inherently wild pet to somebody else close that haven't met the creature. Edit: Probably doesn't help that your sister is imitating his unfriendly behaviour and noises either. I don't ever get why humans try to copy animal behaviour when they're agressive and think _that_ will help, instead of just being themselves, but this is what most people appear to do... (same goes for mating behaviour, and then doesn't realize why (or not at all that) the pet is acting all "weird" to them) Most times, when introducing yourself to any animal, domesticated or not, the best thing is just to ignore them, but to be around them, and eventually they'll trust you more after observing your behaviour, and eventually _they_ will approach _you._ Should never expect great results by rushing things, human or other animal.
Nec, we are talking about birds here. They don't just bite you because they feel threatened, they also bite you to fuck with you amongst other things. They are cheeky, complex and many have the intelligence of a young child. And toucans can be pretty damn vicious.
Birds will bite, that's just the way it is. I've only had one bird so far that has never really bitten me in any serious way and that is a outlier. Even my best friend for 31 years, Nerd bird, would bite but for him it was fear or pain. There was almost always a reason I could understand and he drew blood most times when he did. We absolutely trusted each other so if needed I'd take a bad bite to protect him or someone from him, but it didn't happen often. Lurch was scared to death and mad at the world for taking his old man freind away. He wouldn't even give a warning first, just right to a quick bad bite. It took 5 years to fully earn his trust and he finally was happy and would give plenty if warnings before he bit and wouldn't try as hard because he decided he liked me. Dobby was only shown love and respect his whole life and waz fully socialized. He refuses to bite and will back away or bluff first. The worst he's given me is a very hard pinch when he was fully wound up and it was obvious he'd react. Tupac just wasn't having it and trying his best to say I'm not sure about you so back off and let me decide if you're worthy of my trust. Luckily he's a gentle soul so he just clamps and snaps, plus a threatening noise to make her go away. Like he said he needs time to get used to her and he'll let her interact more as he observes her only doing things that are good and not hurting anyone in his flock. You have to read their body language and attitude before you do anything or bad things can happen. Obviously Brock showed him he was a good being and a trustworthy friend right away. They choose who they choose and it's a honor they bestow on us.
