I'd start just replying things like: No, I am no(t) [longer] interested, [I took the other offer/opportunity and i'm letting this slip]. I would put it as much as possible into breaking it. "Unfortunately my dad has passed, please contact me in a few weeks if there's unresolved business." etc etc. I would NOT forward ppl, I would not even warn them anymore, hell, make a nice tirade to them to f off. Or, even more, doing that porch? Ehm, sure, but I decided to rebuild the house, could you tear it down by thursday? Maintaining the pond? No, I decided to remove it, you can take all the fish and fill the pond in. I'm landscaping it all, so no worries bout tracks.
Gonna be honest, if I saw this while living in their district of business, I'd write myself a note to never hire them. They clearly don't care about their personal matters, why would they care about mine?
Honestly, since he clearly doesn't seem to care, I'd just start deleting them. No replies, no forwarding. It's been going on for 15 years, plently of time for him to get his mighty ducks in a row. When folks get angry at him for ghosting them, or he loses out on something important, then that might give him the motivation to actually do something about it. Even if it doesn't, at least you don't have to expend the bandwidth replying.
Yeah, I'm fine with doing that at this point. I definitely think the right thing to do is to repeatedly contact him and give him time to fix it, but he's had enough time. This Mike has done more than enough. I think it'd be wrong to do that immediately, but now is fine.

a woman in Ohio has been using my email for twenty years. I have been telling stores that I shoplift, contractors that I will not be paying them, and realtors that I have bad credit. and yet she persists.
How would that work though? Like it's annoying, sure, but you're risking him messing with your business. I'd be an absolute savage if this happened to me.

I think you should go to the local Arizona news and tell them the story, that it's been going on for 15 years, that you've called his son several times but the father STILL keeps giving out your email address. Find out what business the father is in and question publicly if he's fit to be in business if he deliberately gives out business cards with a false email address. I bet with the bad publicity, he'll stop.
A tattoo artist a couple years back kept giving my number out. Random clients would hit me up with some stupid ideas. I would make the appointment for only the worst tattoo ideas I have ever seen.
I had someone give out my email address as theirs for a mortgage a few years ago. I responded to their bank and agent that they had the wrong email address, but everyone insisted that I was in the wrong. It all came to a head when I got his bank account's password resets sent to me. I had to report that to their security personnel because there was no way I was going to get wrapped up in/accused of anything related to banking fraud. Some people...

I changed a dudes uhaul password and found his email address because he's been using my phone number occasionally for 8 hrs. From then on, I decided every time I encounter this, I'd do anything possible to inconvenience him, such as canceling bookings last minute.

There is somebody in Alabama using my email address for everything. I get their confirmation emails for oil changes, nail appointments, hair appointments, clothing purchases. You name it, I've gotten it. I've also gotten this person's name and address and phone number because it's part of these emails. I've contacted this person and asked them to stop. I've contacted their prospective landlords (yes, they used my email on a rental application) to inform them that they used a fraudulent email address. I get enough emails as it is. I don't need yours, too!
I have this. I finally tracked her down on Facebook, and she SWORE she had her email right, and that is somehow stolen it. I'd had that email since she was in middle school and wasn't married yet so... No. Probably not.
If it was your email address, could she explain why she never receives her emails? She can't claim it's stolen if she can't access it in the first place.
OMG SAME. I was like, "I am not a creeper, I am trying to tell you that you are sending your personal details to me. Please stop sending things to [myemail that's one character off from her email]." She basically said, "Uh, I obviously make no mistakes so..." (SMH) She is literally writing down my email address to people when she means to add a letter or an underscore and it's coming to me. At this point, I might reply that it's the wrong email if it's important and mark as spam/block if it's not. Joke is on her because I use a service to sweep my same name/address info off the internet info scraping sites every 2-3 months and now hers is prominent everywhere so hey. Biteme, lady.
I would tell him, "I am getting your private information, such as tax documents. I can not be responsible for keeping your private data safe. It would be a shame if my email account gets hacked and this data is leaked."

Used to have the same issue with someone who had the same name as my daughter, with one letter different, but the contact list for their building had our email. I would write back to all the people who would organize potlucks, help bring things to people who were ill, and so forth, hoping someone would get the list changed. But then the person got engaged and emails started coming in fast and in volume. Even the parents of the bride were emailing the wrong address. Once they realized I wasn't some crazy person, they had a vested interest in not missing any emails about the wedding and fixed it EVERYWHERE. I sent an email after the wedding to congratulate them, but never got a reply from anyone.
He probably has two business cards. One he gives to people he wants to hear from again. The other for people he doesn't like, so people can reach you instead of him. Probably why Brandon Rafi isn't concerned lol
Every time you reply to anyone looking for him, CC him in on it and in the top line say, "Good morning, this is Mike Rafi the Attorney and not who you are looking for. Please be advised that the one you are looking for cannot spell his own email address, it is included in the CC for your future reference."

I've been getting phone calls and texts for some who used to have my number. Only problem is that I've had the same number for years. I may have canceled a doctors appointment or two.
Personally, I'd start posting the erroneously received emails onto my Social Media page. And as soon as I hear the squeal, "THAT IS PERSONAL INFORMATION!"... I would respond with, "Then why did you have it sent to ME?"
This same thing has been happening to me for like 15-20 years. I get emails for car appointments, teachers/schools reaching out, libraries, a full on house inspection report, important business details. I respond to important ones saying what happened. Unimportant ones I go in to account notes and mention it’s not their email somewhere. Really unimportant ones I just change the email, change the password, and walk away. It’s frustrating that it still happens this many years later.
Just start taking his prospective customers. Since he is willingly and knowingly funneling them to you. “Do you really want a lawyer who can’t even get his email right?”
You have the patience of a saint, I would've messed the responses so bad that he would have no choices to change it. All within the scopes of law, of course.
I'd just ignore things, or even better, and a message back saying "thanks, you'll get back to them about this when you're not so swamped." He'll miss out on things and change his mind real quick. Right now you're just acting as his free secretary weeding out things that don't matter.
Lol! I had this happen for several years with my long held phone number... At some point, a woman with the same first name had her business cards printed up for her job at a very large company, and 1 number was off, resulting in our getting loads of calls for years for her, and confusing all involved when they would ask using our mutual first name! I tried to let the company and callers know, but, as I said, it went on a very loooong time!
Since this has been ongoing for years, you've notified them multiple times over said years, this to me sounds like they are deliberately setting you up for what amounts to harrassment. Not sure what the actual legal term would be, but still second hand harrassment is still harrassment.
You’re being nicer than I would be. By now, I’d be doing things like saying yes to the house and asking the agent to meet me somewhere, telling people that I can’t respond because I’m in prison, etc.
At this point, it sounds like they are trying to strong arm you out of an address they really want. They cant get too crazy with it because once you abandoned it they arent going to want to deal with the aftermath of crazy. Unfortunatley it would be a tough sell to prove he is trying to client poach.
Now, I'm no fancy pants lawyer, but it strikes me there may be another way to deal with this (and from vague memory the states doesn't have the same level of data protection and related law, as the EU rules, on what you can do if you recieve information not intended for you). Presuming your staff are dealing with the bulk of the emails intended for the other guy (and if not, you could filter/forward them for staff to deal with); you could have staff fill in an invoice template and forward it to the originally intended recipient, they could guage how important the information is to the other guy, then bill him accordingly for access to the information. Once you don't initially tell him the recipient, or forward the email to his actual email, and if he doesn't want to look even *more* unprofessinal to his clients; he might either pay some (e.g. to find out who made an offer, and on what property, etc. which may only be communicated in that email ypu received), or he might finally address the email address issue!?
@@vdozsa77 Sure, but that's still work that (without invoicing the problem causer) no one would get paid for (at least by the person causing the problem); and arguably because they'd delete them, they would be getting more as people don't know they've made the mistake and email again seeking reply etc. Also, given the name issue, it might be difficult to reliably filter ones for the other guy out, and I probably wouldn't take the chance of it catching ones meant for the correct person (lawyer) and them losing business/information therein.
Time to sue for damages, you spend time replying/dealing with wrong emails, its a known problem to them they refuse to remedy. Ask for $100k just to get their attention and when they respond tell them you will accept a deal where you will take no money now and they agree to stop using the address with the stipulation that every email you get from a new person they pay $10 in damages then in 3-6 months every email you get regardless of if they are new or people you've delt with before it costs them $20 each. This will get them to stop giving out cards with the wrong email address and gives them time to update the others.
This should be higher. A healthy/normal person wouldn't continue using the wrong address for 15 years. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that he has some form of dementia

Then how could I possibly know it's time for her Ford Fiesta's oil change at SmallTown, TX Ford? "That shouldn't have happened." And yet it did. How can I be sure she hasn't seen my emails? "Well, it couldn't happen." Forgive my confusion, but you said the same thing when I said I was getting email for someone who also shares my name, has only a . between first and last names, you said it was impossible. You also failed to notice one of the emails I sent as an example was a reply to an email she had sent! "But that's not how it works." Maybe not in theory, Gmail, but in reality, it's happened. It took them a month to notify her that she'd have to choose a new username. Apparently, they had her old email address as her backup/recovery email. Imagine that. All was well for a year or so, and then I started getting email for her vehicle service, insurance, church notices, town newsletters newsletters, etc. It's a pain in the ass. I usually mark them as spam.
Funny enough I have the exact same issue. I even get alerts when their security system is armed and disarmed. Every. Single. Day. It's just clogging my email

I commented on part 1, that this has happened with my e-mail address many times too but this story is much more than my worst one lol. My worst one was a guy who used my e-mail address for verizon when I already had verizon at the time. I couldn't just put in my spam folder since I had verizon. I contacted verizon about the problem and the most they could do was send a postcard to them about making sure their info is up to date...still didn't get fixed lol. I don't have verizon now so it's ok it just goes into my spam folder.
I once had a lawyer keep mailing me people's peraonal documents. I eventually told him i would start contacting his clients to inform them their attorney was so incompetent he was emailing their personal financial information (including bank details) to me in what i can only assume is a convoluted plan to drain their bank accounts. That actually didnt stop anything, so i contacted the state bar association that this attorney was being careless with clients' sensitive information, and after being notified of this egregious mishandling of documents did nothing to correct the problem. 1 week later the emails stopped. Sometimes the only language people speak is personal harm.
I have a similiar problem. Several people think my email address is theirs, so i constantly get their emails, receipts, etc. i also used to mess with them a bit, but now i just want it to stop.
My mom has the same thing going on, except it's her phone number. A certain business has the same number as her, just a different area code...but their website has her area code, not hers. I don't know if it ever got fixed, but she was getting calls almost daily for awhile.
There's a 50% chance he is well aware that it's your email and he is doing this to prank you. There's also a pretty high chance that he just doesn't want to answer any emails from random people so he gives them yours instead.
So... take the Arizona bar exam. Then, you can simply create a satellite lawyer's company in Arizona, redirecting all those emails to your new partners office. Once enough of Brandon Rafi's clients become your clients. He'll suddenly figure out how to change his email address.
My legal name is the same as my dad's, but our middle names are different. Several years ago I had to move back in with him for a bit. I put in a change of address form with the post office and somehow all they got was "J. Thomas is moving from Address X in City A to Address Y in City B" and started sending all of the mail with that name on it. I, at the time, was in my early 20s. My dad, at the time, was in his late 60s. I got so much mail for life insurance and retirement seminars and invitations to join AARP for months.
I've had a couple instances where people started using my email address to sign up for accounts for things. Like store accounts and such. At one point, I started getting bank statements for this person who wasn't me. I didn't see an option in the emails to tell them to stop sending the emails and I don't want to be responsible for any of the information that may be revealed in the emails so I ended up calling the bank. A 15 or 20 minute conversation and routed to multiple people and they were able to remove my email address from the account so it would stop sending me bank information from someone in a different state. This was over 5 years ago and I still get her signing up for accounts with my email address and getting notified that she's getting shipped something.
The fact that i have this relative problem with a real-estate agent giving my number as his for 15 years now and then this pops up is hilarious. I have started responding with "as far as im aware he died before April of 2009. If 6ou have another form of contact please let him know he needs to correctly give his phone number" he also was the previous tenant in our specific apartment from when i got my cell phone number.
