Awesome room. Million dollar home theaters are nice and all but I'd rather see practical home theaters for normal people. Again, it's cool to see a home theater where money is no object but what am I supposed to get out of that besides jealousy? I'll never be able to afford 90% of the items most of those HTs feature. And even though the complete $40k price tag is out of reach for me but I can see myself getting a similar result for a much more reasonable $20k (if I cheap out on the custom bits, skip the Valencia seats, buy used components, etc)
I kinda of have the bests of both worlds with my other setup costing me around $140K all up - but this space is less money, less fancy but I built it the right way - made very targeted choices to give me the best bang for buck. I see a lot of people who don't know better spending too much money in one area and not another. My upstairs setup is very balanced and lean and gives me the exact performance I'm after. Hence why I do RU-vid - I want to help as many people as I can for free!
I was gonna say, this isn't a million dollar home theater 😂. What are you expecting to see? Something next to the kitchen with heights mounted on the ceiling and cable runners? That's what I have. It's a great temporary solution, but my wife only allowed it because she wants me to eventually move it in the basement. I'm surprised I got this far. I didn't have the money for a lot of AV equipment for most of my life, but I eventually found ways of getting close. If you do it right, it'll raise the value of your home as well. There's another guy on RU-vid who shops at thrift stores and buys that stuff. Old movie theater speakers, used projectors, and saving up to build a room or doing it yourself like my dad and friends have done. The room might cost $15K and be $100K of value.
@@Saturn2888 A lot of people say that having a "theatre room" doesn't really raise the market value of your home. Unless you know someone that is specifically looking for a house included with one. For most buyers it's actually a hindrance because that room will probably be used as a guest room or kids room or other various needs and will potentially put buyers off of picking a home with speakers in the ceiling or any other physical changes that might have been done.
@@BuildMontage I imagine it does. I’m currently helping a friend fit out a room with in wall Krix Megaphonix for the LCRs, and have the same thought when looking back at photos.
Hi Tony. Very nice video. You have the same size room as I do, the only difference is, my room is 6.5 meters long and it’s a dedicated theatre room. I am re decorating and trying to sound proof it , and I’m upgrading from 7.2 surround to 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos, I checked out the A8A receiver, but because of the cost, WestCoast HiFi had a special, and the Onkyo TX-RZ70 is 11 channels powered, so I got it while the sale was on. I was using the Onkyo TX-NR708 THX certified. Your home theatre is very nice, it helps if you can get good discounts. thank you for sharing. Gary 😊
Thanks Gary, I have a dedicated room as well where I have gone all out, but this room is pretty great for casual (and some dedicated) movies and TV shows. The gear is balanced for the room I feel. Onkyo are making some nice stuff again, thanks for watching.
lol! You have an awesome setup mate - I just push the envelope a little with the Mrs 😝 I love this room - it’s super cozy and gives great audio and video. Catch up soon mate
Great vid bro, and this is not your main setup !!!! Excuse me but most people would be over the moon if this was their main setup .... looks fantastic. Sound makes up most of the movie experience so your setup should sound awesome. I love lighting so I will check out your links ..... cheers mate and enjoy that setup. I live in QLD but I was in Sydney easter weekend to watch "& Juliet" musical at the Lyric Theatre.
Thank you :) I know, I am a little spoilt having two setups but I do also use them both for RU-vid videos and demonstrations, plus I also sell Valencia chairs so I use them as a sales tool too! Thanks for watching!
Given that you’re using 4 x Atmos Ceiling Speakers, is there a reason you didn’t purchase the IC-52 speakers instead enabling you to angle all four towards the main listening position? (Major struggles with getting good Atmos here!)
I didn’t need to as I was able to position them correctly without compromise and the dispersion of the speaker is perfect so I get really good Atmos. I have 6 x ic52 in my main room as I had to put them slightly off axis - that’s really the only reason you would need to get those. In the case of this room I didn’t have to worry about that.
You may find it better to google the pricing of the gear - it kinda evens out even in USD - a straight conversion wont work as you're looking at the wholesale cash rate, not the retail conversion of your dollars into mine - it still is way more favourable in USD tho for sure.
@@BuildMontage Fair point! You're listing MSRP as well (I think?) and not listing deals and what you actually paid. Many of us in this hobby find great deals to save big money
In comparison with other projectors, I was wondering how quiet the XGIMI projector was? And while you're there, if you know of any projectors under $2,500 that happened to be exceptionally quiet. Cheers
Wow. Stumbled across this vid, and gotta say.. mad respect for what you’ve done! Everything seems really well thought out and implemented! If I could snap my fingers, this is pretty much exactly what I’d like for my startup system when we move into a new rental house! 🎉. Never heard of Krix before but they look well made (the speakers remind me of Arendal drivers). Ps. It would be really awesome if you could go into more detail on exactly how you set each component up (for example, walk thru each speaker and it’s placement, how you were able to hook it up, why you did it that way, what kind of speaker wire and issues you had to deal with etc. prob take too long but def intrigued. 🎉 Pps. I’d love to see a super large infrasonic sub installed to your system! Like maybe a diy 21/24” gsg/SI ;) 🎉
Thanks for the msg. Yes, everything in this setup was very thoroughly mapped and planned out. Krix is an Australian brand - if you look on my channel page you will find lots of videos on them as well as my other setups. This room specifically was my "budget" room even though it still cost quite a bit, it was built to be practical but also perform better than average. I have done two prior videos to the reveal - I did link them in the cards of the video - you can check out the journey as I explain quite a few things but also changed a few things along the way too!
Great video. I sent it as proof to my wife that there are others like me! I notice your surrounds are slightly asymmetrical. Mine are too due to windows. I can’t even tell once it’s calibrated. Some people would tell you not to bother unless you have a textbook setup like Dolby states, but those people would be missing out! Enjoy.
100% I had to place the surrounds at the best possible location based on the constraints of the room. Perfect is the enemy of good - this setup sounds really awesome - and if i was too much of a perfectionist, like you say, I would have missed out!
No I don't actually from personal testing - I have seen screen innovations make some alr screens for long throw but I havent actually reviewed or tested.
Fantastic room Tony! Thank you for sharing 👍 I also have a dedicated home cinema room with a 5.1.4 setup and a smaller setup in my mancave in a 5.1.2 configuration. It's funny to think that in the beginning I thought I was wasting money when setting up my mancave, but I found myself using it everyday, especially for TV shows which I mostly watch alone
I thought I explained why I can't and truthfully, you cant tell that it's not directly in line with your ears. The speakers are angled as such.. There would be no point in compromising on the viewing angle by having the chairs right up close to the screen just to have the side surrounds in the text book perfect position. That is why I made this video - to show people that perfect is the enemy of good and compromise for the greater good is the name of the game :)
This is an awesome room and an awesome video. When you have a room like this, it’s a lot less formal than a dedicated room , so it gets used more. Also, for those of us with living room setups, we had to deal with some of the same challenges. Great, great. Video
I am making a video soon on the importance of a center channel, and I will be reviewing the three center channels I have in 3 of my setups - so stay tuned. You can watch my earlier videos in this build series where I chat about it a bit more but Vortex is an incredible speaker.
Great room Tony! Thanks for showing us your Grand Barcelona seats. I just heard that D-BOX has discontinued their Home/Residential offering. Any comments or further information on that? I was about to get two seats with D-BOX ... but it maybe a dead technology for the home. Keep the reviews/videos coming, their awesome! Cheers.
@BuildMontage - Yeah, they are still available until 30th April 2024 and then Valencia and Wavetrain guys are discontinuing them in their seats. Information is just coming to light now. It's a shame as I really liked it. Maybe the high costs put people off and they are just sticking with the commercial theaters. I hate to think what happens to the people that already bought them for the home...
Hey mate, they are the standard (ultimate luxury grand barcelona) which are already huge. I know there is a slim version, I wasnt aware there was an even bigger version but that could help with the length of the recline. I'm only 5'7" and it is about the right length for me, so taller people may find a bigger version more comfortable.
Definitely my favourite of all the Valencia chairs so far - the headrest retracting is a huge bonus for me, especially as when its only me, I dont have any audio being blocked.
I don't feel like I'm "losing" anything as I still get incredible audio/visuals up here but it just feels more casual. It's still very immersive and sounds great, but the dedicated room is more intimate, feels like you're in a black hole and surrounded by the audio and video. It's just a "different" experience more than losing anything. Sometimes I prefer this space to my dedicated room for certainthings like sports or tv shows.
Thumb rule for home theatre get decent amp because they last for decades if you get good brand … Second thing don’t go for powerful heavy subwoofer very first time , if in future you decide to upgrade it’s easy to move them out and if it’s your forever home put nice speaker cables like audio quest and run good hdmi cables for the projector and also enough cables for 13 or 15 channel pre amp so that in future you are not doing it again if you are building your room from scratch . Always plan to put projector outside room so that screen would not shake from bass
@@BuildMontage I am saying in general, you have been reviewing HT stuff for long and you know much more than me 👍 I am saying from my personal preference I have home theater with Golden ears and 2 SVS PB 16 ultra
I love your theater ! I can't decide to buy Horizon Ultra or JMGO N1 Ultra. Now i think Horizon Ultra is better, because it has optical zoom. Do you think it's wright idea?
I had the JMGO and switched to th XHU because I wanted the optical zoom. If it had lens shift it would be EVEN better. The JMGO had better contrast though I am more happy with the XHU all round which is why I switched it.
@@BuildMontage Best to spend quality family time, you will have plenty of spare time in the future when kids leave home. I regret not spending more time with my kids, hobbies come and go but family is everything !!!!
@patrickmiller4987 honestly I don’t take the room seriously enough to worry too much about it. I have a minidsp which I took from my main setup as I have a Trinnov there now. All I know is the rumble and feeling I get in the chair is crazy good. Next time I crank open REW I’ll take a reading. I’m not sure why me saying that I have no bass issues in my room is a point of contention for you. Do u think I’m lying about how good the bass is? I have zero reason to and have been brutally honest about the shortcomings of my setups - I’ve made entire playlists on the topic. But this room sounds insanely good after all the calibration and tweaking.
@@BuildMontage No sir. Im sure it sounds great, and systems can sound awesome with some nulls, most people wouldnt notice unless it was pointed out with a frequency sweep. Two more subs towards the back or sides would be cool!
I guess my comment of no nulls was more descriptive of the experience than representative of a flat response on a chart. There is a tonne of rumble and tactile response in the seated position. 50-70hz is pretty punchy and I guess what I mean is I've experienced setups with subs where there is literally no rumble and no tactile in the seated position. My dedicated room was absolutely awful and I have four subs in there - but the Trinnov completely fixed everything in there, time align, impulse and phase - if I could have a Trinnov upstairs as well I would :)
