Hello Steve - glad to see you are settling in well to your new home. Glad to see your entire family is relocating to Denver. The record stores in Michigan miss you! Happy belated Fathers day.
lol Mike, I bet the stores miss me Lot of money just disappeared. I’m still ordering from Jim! Pretty exciting and wild to have the whole family close by, I never would have thought this would happen
Congratulations to your son on the new job. That VU record sounds kind of rough, but I'm with you - I like to hear documentation of their live sets. This morning when I got up I said to myself "I'd like to hear a song about an unplanned pregnancy today.....but gosh - I can't think of one...." And then something led me to this video. Weird. Thanks for showing the records Steve - hope you have a great week!
Lmao Randy, glad I could deliver on an unplanned pregnancy song. That’s what my videos are about , making your world right. lol. I did learn the VU record was from 1990. I still found it a fun listen.
I never thought of that way. Many people really like it a lot. I think my expectation was a harder psych album. It is one that will need to grow on me. Thanks as always for taking time to watch and comment
Cool albums Steve! Great first live concert that your grandson experienced! Awesome atmosphere! You got to love those old mining towns. I experienced some real nice ones in Idaho. There was a place in Silver City that made apple pie. Only one guy lived there from September to April. A coworker of mine drove his son up there, next thing he knew, he was waking up in a hospital and had no memory of it. He went off the road and went down the mountain. His son didn’t get harmed at all, but my coworker had a serious brain injury. Somebody was watching over him and his son. Steve, hold the music close, as Santana says “Music will Set you Free”. I’ll see Santana for my 11th time on the 25th.
If I can get some more time I want to get deeper into the mountains. I have seen so many mountain towns growing up in CO when they were more like ghost towns but now they have all found tourism No longer cheap to visit. I hope it wasn’t the apple pie that made your friend lose control Michael. Things are working out nicely in CO
My daughter went to her first concert a few nights ago, also a country one. That's fantastic the whole family will be in Colorado now, congrats. Was looking for Gandalf but missed it in my area, maybe I'll come across a copy another day. Unfriendly and inability to follow instructions sound like perfect qualifications for the cohost job Steve
Doug, we never dreamed our family would ever be together, it is a dream come true though now we will be busier going from one house to another. I may miss my quiet life. I keep seeing Gandalf left over in record stores out here
Morning 🌄 Steve. Imbibed a wee bit much of the rum last night. Always better during but not as much the next day ☺️. Nice first concert with Aiden. It wasn't Humble Pie but he'll catch up 😊. Glad to hear your son scored with the job. Amazing the family is all in Colorado 🎉. That's 2 days in a row that Rush album appears. MGK has in his party teaser.
Pretty funny Rush is dominating my videos lol. Jim keeps driving. I can’t say I have ever done much Rum and I was working periodically on St Croix where they make the stuff! It is mind blowing that the family is together. I never expected this to happen Greg
Enjoyed the show with my morning coffee. I like the Gandalf and found one. When you did your flip I was hoping you picked it up. Happy Father’s Day Steve. Take care art
I actually got that Gandalf on record store day. People were saying it was hard to find Art but I keep finding it in my travels. Flippers were asking for over $70 on it. Crazy
hey Steve, it was lovely to run into you at Paradise Found today. That VU sounds rough. Broadcast has some good records for sure, not familiar with this one. Congrats on your son + family moving down here too.
That was fantastic ! Thank you so much for talking to me. I love meeting other collectors, it’s my favorite part of the VC. I hope we can get together again and hit a store, that would be a lot of fun
Nice footage of the live band, sounded pretty good. After I watched your video, I went on Discogs and found the Velvets boot, it's from 1990, but no info on the source tape. I wish I had seen the Velvets at La Cave, but I was 13 in '68 and wouldn't discover them for a few more years. I'm like you, I'm a sucker for Velvets boots too. I liked Rush's first album, but never really got into them after that. Gandalf was one I wanted for RSD, but it was gone, cool that you got a copy, I think it's coming out again in the fall, like a plain black vinyl version. Thanks for sharing Steve and have a great week.
Michael, I keep seeing that Gandalf album in stores out here, at least I’m 3 for 3 finding it. It is being released again as it was a first so those people that want a ton of money for it can suck it up That band was great. We couldn’t stay long but we did want to see what Aiden would think. Eventually he lost interest and began running around lol. Thanks for the info on the boot, I could not locate it worth a darn Michael
Hello Steve, You picked a good band for junior's first concert. Not too crowded, not too loud. Ease him into this live music thing! I have the first 3 Rush albums, maybe it's time to get a couple more. Have fun this week. Take care, thanks.
Ralph, Aiden really seems to like music. When he here’s it at a mall or some store he stops and listens and then performs his own special Aiden dance lol. I just need to get that on film sometime lol
Nice crick. I wonder if there are any fish in it.... I gotta tell ya Stevarino Baby that you have the best start to your videos than all other channels I see. Aiden looked like the live music was something new to him. It piqued his interest though you could see that... The kid dropped his bottle!!!!!!! He will never be a drinker then. Drinkers don't drop the bottle.... LOL
There were a lot people fishing for trout Bobbie. We use to fish those creeks on vacation when we were young. I’m glad you enjoy the start. People all over the world watch these videos so I just like to show what it looks like in my travels. I love watching travel videos so this is my small take on it I feel much better knowing Aiden won’t be a drinker since he can’t hang onto his bottle lmao. He does really like music
I am working on my Rush appreciation, Jim is helping me along with it lol. Folds album Songs For Silverman is one of my all time favorite albums, it is packed with so many great stories in it.
Good morning Steve! That VU bootleg sounds like it was recorded outside the venue 😂 Permanent Waves is one of their best 🔥 I never was bothered by Geddy Lee’s vocals or Dylan’s, Neil Young’s but Morrissey’s forget it. I like the Gandalf record but already had it so picked up the live Television album and have yet to listen to it 😂 I had that Ben Folds on cd but never got into it so it’s gone Take care Brian ☮️
You can handle Dylan but nit Morrissey? Now I have to worry about you Brian! 😂. I guess you were pretty excited about the live Television, I know, you’re just waiting to be in the right mood to get sucked into the album properly, hope it comes soon. I learned the bootleg was done in 1990 I’m just a sucker for them from certain groups. Pay a lot of a bad recording. No one ever said I got great judgment lol
Hi Steve, Aiden might not be too receptive to the banjo. Great that the whole family will be together. The universe is coming together for the Carlson family. Congratulations to Paul on the new chapter. That is a good Rush album. Gandalf is a big VC RSD release. Ben Folds! Brick was a huge hit. I had on cd but haven’t gotten anything else. Great video. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
I’m pretty sure Aiden wants a banjo. Banjos are great. You can’t make sad banjo music, it all comes out happy Steve! I don’t see you having a Big Ben Folds collection Zonkman, I really like some of his stuff and other stuff, eh. I was not able to comment on the video with your grandson who was looking at scary albums. That was a great video, really enjoyed it Steve
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 the video with my grandson I selected made for kids so he could see it on his RU-vid Kids. Otherwise I don’t think he can even search for it. I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was a blast to do.
Great news, Steve. $49 - People are idiots 🙂 Love the Ben Folds Five album. I’ve seen him several times. He bangs the keys so hard; his fingers bleed. Of course, that was years ago. Happy Father’s Day!!
I would really loved to see Ben Folds in concert. His Songs for Silverton is an all time favorite album of mine along with his next album whose title escapes me.
Looks like Aiden was getting down and enjoying the gig.. That Velvets live album is rough as hell, but you can hear the energy is there..Rush, Pavlovs' Dog, Uriah Heep, they all have one common denominator..I hate the vocals!..which is a pity, because the musicianship is great. I need to listen to Gandalf again because I didn't enjoy it on first listen, which really surprised me, because I thought I'd love it. Broadcast are fabulous..I have their Maida Vale sessions from BBC recordings and it's terrific and atmospheric..the singer sadly died some years ago. Sorry to hear your would be co -hosts are not willing..perhaps try a dog?. Hope you're having a great weekend Steve.
Rob, I thought for sure Gandalf would be in your wheel house ! Broadcast was new to me but it sounds like their first couple albums were pretty good with a fuller sound. Aiden really seems to like music. He stops when he hears it comes on and he does have his own special Aiden dance lol
Hello Steve; A little blue grass to start the show. The Velvet Underground, live Boot ( audience recording ) in Cleveland the seminal NYC, band. Rush, Permanently Waving. Gandalf, psych era rock. Broadcast, trance laden rock. Good luck with the Kat auditions. Can't beat the original. Happy Dad & Grandad Day Tina & Pat!~
So true when it comes to cats, there will never be another Kat. Talk about a fixture on my channel Aiden really is drawn to music. I just got a box of little 45s to play for him
Happy Father's Day!!! Great family news to boot! So I'm not the biggest Rush fan, but I can't say that Geddy's voice annoys me to the level that it does you haha. Working Man seemed to be on the radio every 13 seconds or so in the Detroit area, so there was no avoiding the band back in the day. Ah the Gandalf album, the darling of the VC this RSD. I passed on it and now occasionally feel a bit of FOMO coming on, but (like the album itself) it passes 😂 Have a great rest of your weekend!
Dave, funny thing about that Gandalf is that I see it at almost every record store. With Canada next door I think all people in MI were required to listen to Rush!
Happy Father’s Day. Rush is an acquired taste. Like Kimchi, can’t eat it everyday. Bootlegs always sound terrible. Accept for The Doobie Brothers bootleg Rerun dropped in What’s Happening. 😂 Have a great one, Steve
lol Kimchi. First time I had that was in Korea. I was with a group of black belts touring and training in Korea for a week. Kimchi was eaten morning noon and night. I hated it! Is I have grown to not mind it. I like it added on a hamburger or other things but still not as a stand alone g dish Steve. Some of the new bootlegs coming out our great, especially from Pink Floyd, otherwise there is some real crap!
I have that VU boot, bought in the 90s. It's noisy. I still can't get into Rush. I sill listen to that Ben Folds Five album often - love it. From what I understand, he was originally from Winston Salem - a hometown boy!
My favorite albums from Fold are Songs For Silverman and Rockin The Suburbs, I find those two to be almost perfect. I heard he has had 4 marriages so he does have some expertise on break up songs lol.
I’ve come across that phenomenon of overpriced records in antique shops before. It’s frustrating because they might have something I’d like to buy but no way am I going to pay their stupid prices! Umm, I like my psych but am not sure I like the sound of those Gandalf cover versions. Great that your son got the job. I’m sure you can give him good advice on moving!
My son has no records to move, just a lot of Legos so good luck to him. So I was with you on your thoughts on Gandalf. I was expecting something more from the album. Some people love it, some don’t I never got into the whole baroque psych pop music scene. If I want baroque I’ll put on some Bach. Enjoy your week John
Steve's last night at town. :D It made me look for Finnish song with Steve in title. But only artist names like Steve Webb and Steven n' seagulls. mr. Finglish (Bäd English Recs)
Hi Stee, maybe you should consider a Border Collie dog for you co-host. They are smart and obedient dogs, I would suggest a Rotty, but they can be large and stubborn. Just a suggestion.
That's nice your other son will be local to you too. Not sure about that VU bootleg. I really hated Geddy Lee's vocals back in the day, but I quite like them now and I've been gradually buying Rush albums. I found a Canadian first press of Permanent Waves at a record fair a year or two back at a very reasonable price. Really good find and a brilliant album. Neil Peart! I know of Gandalf but I don't think I've ever heard their music. I like the sample. Broadcast didn't grab me tbh. I never got into Ben Folds, but I like the rationale for the band name and the description Punk for sissies! Nice video. Cheers Steve
In the 00’s Folds put out two albums, Songs For Silverman and Rockin The Suburbs. I love those two albums, every song excites me and they are easy to sing along to. A lot of his other stuff was okay, but those two are close to perfect for me. Congrats on Geddy’s voice Andy, I am working at it but definitely not there yet! Maybe by next year lol
if you were still in Michigan i guess you would be at the Meijer ? nice to see you getting into rush, as a Canadian i am legally obligated to love them.
I went to that Meijers tournament a few times, it was a lot of fun, so much great food to try. I had a perfect spot in the shade on a par 3. And of course I always attended the Down Corning Classic for three days, I will miss that Bruce
«Cat auditions aren’t going well…» The don’t get instructions and are unfriendly made me laugh out loud 😂 Congratulations to your son and the building of a Colorado clan 😊 Wonder how my life had panned out if I got that job over in Cherry Creek (well, I got it, thing folded before I could go over… probably for the best in that scenario). Bleed rush 😂 Some sort of Lawnmower Man type computer animated goo? Love that Rush record. Gandalf… intrigued. I finally got a record I’ve tried to buy twice yesterday. Kraan! Ben Folds Five Three 😄 Needed this video, love the schtick 🥸 Have a lovely Sunday Steve!
Morten, I obviously have no idea what is going to come out of my mouth. I just let it flow lol. Gandalf was alright Morten I just like my baroque music being performed by Bach and notGandalf lol. Thanks for hanging out Morten
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 I went to have coffee with friend of mine who turned 50 yesterday. She said she heard that almost all red cats, like Mike’s Colton, are boy cats. Is it a silly myth like «Dogs can’t look up»? Am I going to find out? Ehr… Not sure, kind of like the idea 😄
Broadcast is good. Maybe they haven't aged well because I haven't listened to them in awhile? I should put some on. I used to stream them a lot during the dark times...
I'm in Buffalo now! By 2011, Ben Folds had just divorced his fourth wife, so I guess he was an expert on troubled relationships. Great news about you're son. We're hoping Dr. Darby lands a job at the U. of T. (in Canada, that's Toronto and not Texas). Broadcast sound a little like an 80's band that I can't name.
I was going to say you living in Texas would drive you insane, talk about Trump country. Stay out of the US with this being a dysfunctional election year. Way too stressful Too funny about Folds, he must have liked the US song Still Haven’t Found What I’m Loooking For. Wouldn’t that be wonderful if Dr Darby did move back by you. Nothing better than having family close by. Huge congrats on the play and showing menus from different states lol
That band in the intro sounded great. What was their name? Thanks for sharing. I got my coffee and after my morning treadmill I’m going to get the paint moving on the canvas and maybe get to spinning my new swamp dogg record. It’s a recent country one call Sorry you couldn’t make it. Has John Prine as a guest. Hopefully Melinda Murphy is going to return soon after she gets settled in Florida. My Tuesdays aren’t the same. Take Care
The band was called The Broken String Band from Nashville. They were quite good, very enjoyable. I told Melinda to record some extra episodes so every Tuesday there would be a video. I guess most people aren’t so anal as I am lol. I hope you painting went well!
Hi Steve - I don't own any Velvet Underground unofficial releases & have no plan to add any. I figure it will be an auditory assault. Getting in an Olympic mood.
I have a lot of their bootlegs in CD that a friend gave me. I just love the power of that group. I have learned that boot is from 1990. The new boots coming out generally have decent sound
The La Cave show(s) are one of my favorite live recordings of the Velvets. The version of "What Goes On" from that show is also one of my fave rave VU live cuts. They included it on the "Peel Slowly and See" box set with as much cleaned up fidelity as they could achieve. Killer guitar solo! Gandalf.......I've had the Sundazed CD since they reissued it. Not really impressed but I keep it. Leader Peter Sando owned a pizzeria in North Jersey in the 80s my friend Fusco worked at in high school. One night Fuzz had a cassette of the Ramones' "It's Alive" playing in the kitchen and Sando thought it was just one, long song. "How do they keep up with the changes?" Did you ever get around to listening to the two records you bought at RPM last time we met up? I can't wait to hear your thoughts. JT
JT, you should just start a channel called stories with JT, hillareous about the leader of Gandalf. Owned a pizzeria in NJ. Isn’t there a pizzeria on every corner in NJ. In Denver you can find a taco stand on every corner. You remember what I bought at 33 rpm? Holy crap I don’t remember what I bought there lol. I enjoyed your trip to NJ on FB
I like Broadcast. I think the title Tender Buttons is a much better title than what it could be backwards: Red Net Snot Tub. I think I first heard about hauntology in Simon Reynolds' book Retromania: Pop Culture's Addiction to Its Own Past. Reynolds was one of the people that popularized the term hauntology in reference to music. I remember I found the book interesting. I might recommend the book to you, but I doubt that you have much time to read, given your son's elder abuse. Of course, my comments are like ice cream, right? There's always room for them. Stay groovy.
Haha elder abuse. I take Sunday off so that is the one day I have time to read. I have been trying to read the biography of the artist Cezanne. Taking forever. Retromania sounds very interesting Roman so I will check it out. Red Net Snot Tub, awesome band name!
