The shaky cam quick cuts is exactly why John Wick was such a breathe of fresh air, with it's wide panning shots and all in one well choreographed action sequences.

I think the Bond franchise saw how well the Bourne trilogy did and tried to emulate that. Also, Bourne relied on his training and improvised with what was immediately available, whereas Bond was always dependent upon gadgets provided by Q.
@alucard624
@alucard624 Год назад
@@Jimbo7 It definitely hides the fact that some actors in these films aren't very good at doing action and the quick cuts and shaky cam give the illusion they are. The only times I've not been annoyed by either was Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers because it's supposed to convey how chaotic the fighting could be in WWII.

I still think this is a rather solid Bond film, but it suffered severely in the editing room. It's chopped up way too fast. But that is because there was actual behind-the-scenes problems as I believe the movie passed off to a different editor, and it shows in the final product.

I like this movie more when you think of it as a casino royale part 2. Its Bond hunting down the people who are responsible for Vespers death while trying to grieve her, but in the process meets a woman who also needs the same catharsis as him and gives him the opportunity to grieve properly. Really hated that kiss though.

Who is the guy at the end of the film with the Canadian Intelligence operative and what was even going on with that scene. I don't know what that piece of jewelry was either. I kept up with everything till that last scene the last time I watched the film but I blinked or got a drink or something and completely missed what was going on with it.
@YouHaventSeenMeRight
@YouHaventSeenMeRight Год назад
@@parker469a He's what is called a honeypot. They use these men and women to compromise people with access to sensitive information. In this case this guy had infiltrated the life of Vesper (The woman who betrayed Bond and MI6 at the end of Casino Royal) and pretended to be her fiance. They then pretended to kidnap him in order to get Vesper to betray MI6 and Bond. But of course he was in on it. The necklace was the same as the one Vesper was wearing and seems to be a sort of thing that this guy likes to give his marks to gain their affection. The woman in this movie was his next target, someone who worked in Canadian Intelligence (probably as a staffer, someone with access to sensitive information, but not so high up in the organization that she would draw attention). Early on in the movie M tells Bond that his corpse was found washed up on a beach and that he was the reason she betrayed MI6. Of course that corpse (which was unrecognizable) was a decoy to throw MI6 of his track. Bond didn't buy it and managed to find him. They will now try and pump him for more information about the Quantum organization. The TV series "The Americans" gives a great insight into how these sort of operations were carried out in the Cold War era.

@@YouHaventSeenMeRight Okay, thank you. I missed that he was the "kidnapped" boyfriend since I don't recall ever seeing him and I didn't recognize the necklace. Throughout the movie we see a bunch of jewelry so I never noticed Vespa's neckless in particular. Now it makes sense. I had gotten the feeling he was mentioned in a sentience or two in the beginning of the movie but I didn't know what was supposed to be in reference to him specifically.

While flawed in many, many ways, one thing that "Quantum" did keep up is Bond's emotional attachment. The Craig films flipped Bond's legendary detachment to a more complex appearance of aloofness while still being invested in the people around him. I'm very excited for the next one which is arguably the best of the Craig era films!

The script for this was impacted by the Writers' strike in 2007-2008 which is why it seems pretty cobbled together. It's pretty widely regarded as the worst of the Craig Bond films, and Craig himself said it's his least favorite performance as Bond calling the film a "shit-show"

The editing of this definitely held it back. It reminded me of 'Taken 2' when they'd literally cut 10 times in a 5 second clip. It's disorienting and takes you out of the action rather than make it more amped up. I liked the story a bit in this and I also like how different it was from the 1st. I didn't want a clone of the last movie. And I really, really did like Camille. I liked how she could hold her own and wasn't just there as someone for Bond to sleep with. She was only interested in her own personal revenge and I respect that. And now it's time for 'Skyfall' which is, in my personal opinion, one of the best James Bond movies. Period. It's a fantastic movie.

The fast cuts are meant to reflect Bonds mind state dealing with Vesper's "betrayal." He's literally flying by the seat of his pants with no regard for anything, killing everyone and just being reckless. It's kinda meant to show how he's seeing the world. I also think people's complaints about not being able to follow it are overblown. I don't think there were any scenes that I couldn't follow exactly what was happening. Whether or not people like it however is up to them, but watchability wasn't really an issue for me.

Bourne editing style aside, I had a lot of respect for them not forcing the "Bond, James Bond" in this. In fact, it's the only Bond film that doesn't have it, and considering how much of a given it's always there, the fact that they stayed true to Bond being so hurt that there was never a moment for him to say it; they admitted as much as well, so that earns massive points. Yeah, put aside any writer's strike and cobbling together this one suffered, especially considering the number of flicks in this series over the decades, I can absolutely give it some slack. It's a beautiful big-budget epilogue that wasn't necessary and I love it for that. I even wished they brought Camille back when Bond had to revisit the region again. Casino Royale was always marketed/shown to be a Bond Begins/Becoming Bond type of quasi-origin movie... the beginning even tells you he's earning his "two kills" status and M saying it might have been too soon to give him a double-O status... but if you're liking his rough-around-the-edges version here, I hope you try the 'before-he-was-before' movie, Layer Cake... it was the flick the producer's saw and realized they had their next Bond.

Speaking of deleted scenes, I heard a humorous anecdote that the original opening chase sequence with the cars at the top of the film had a third car following bond that was cut out from the final edit. But the camera shakes around so much that no one could tell the difference! Definitely, content was deleted from the film. Out of 27 films, this is the shorted running time for the EON franchise. For me, personally, this was quite a step down from Casino Royale. Felt like an afterthought to Casino Royale. Or, as a friend put it, Casino Royale was 2.5 chapters of Bond - 1) Ellipsis, 2) Casino Royale, 3a) Vesper's story, Part 1 and Quantum of Solace is the second half of the final chapter - 3b) Vesper's story, Part 2. If you're interested in another Bond "Revenge" movie that goes in a tone similar to the Daniel Craig movies and features more realistic villains than those with volcano and moon bases, check out "License to Kill," the second Timothy Dalton film. Dalton was a last-minute replacement for "The Living Daylights," which was intended to be the final Roger Moore film, but Moore disliked his previous film and felt he was getting to old. Dalton had originally been a choice to replace Sean Connery prior to Moore taking the role, but the producers felt he was too young at the time. When he finally got the role, he said his intention was to bring Bond back to the gritty stories of the original novels, as opposed to the extravagant over-the-top nature of the films. "License to Kill" was definitely a push in that direction. Unfortunately, a number of issues lead to no further Bond films being developed for the next 6 years. By then, Dalton's contract lapsed and he declined to return. Thus, we entered the Pierce Brosnan tetralogy. Oh, and since I didn't get the chance to say it in the last video, the rights to Casino Royale moving over to MGM is what actually got the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies put into development. After several companies went to court to battle for ownership of the Spidey movie rights, it was determined that both Columbia and MGM owned them at 50% each. Sony had also owned the rights to Casino Royale, since they were purchased and was adapted out of continuity from the original EON Production films. Both companies agreed to transfer their rights to the other. Sony released Spider-Man in 2002 and Casino Royale came in 2006 as Reboot of the series.

The action is filmed very fluid and coherent, it has a great score and Oscar winning song, the best Craig Bond villain with Javier Bardem’s Silva, and it’s very personal and hits home delving into Bond’s past, and we finally get introduced to a couple more characters that are pivotal to the Bond lore. I believe it was also Oscar nominated for best cinematography, it’s one of the the best looking of all the Bonds.

I did want to make a quick comment about British pronunciations, though: Daniel's last name, Craig, is pronounced like the name. Phonetically, in England, it is "[ k r ai g ]". In the US, it is "[ k r EH g ]". And although it sounds like they are calling everyone "mom", they are actually saying "ma'am". In the UK, they say it as "[mɑ m]", versus in the US where it is pronounced as "[mæm]". Just thought it was a cool bit of trivia! Looking forward to the rest of the Daniel Craig Bond films!

It would also make sense to watch On Her Majesty's Secret Service before No Time to Die, as the latter is kind of a spiritual sequel to OHMSS. The other must see films are The Spy Who Loved Me, both Dalton films and GoldenEye.

I have watched Casino Royale a lot over the last few months and as well as being thoroughly entertaining it has also done something I didn't think was possible... It has made me realise that Quantum of Solace is in fact quite a good film. Sure, it has some pretty significant weaknesses such as the frantic editing during action sequences and muddled plotting but I'm often inclined to forgive execution issues when the intentions are good and there are hints of brilliance peeking through. There is some really great stuff here like the use of Camille as a reflection of Bond and his journey and battle with grief and revenge. As I mentioned previously the plot is muddled and unfolds at breakneck speed which on a first watch can really distract you from the great work being done under the surface. Until my most recent watch of Quantum of Solace I, like everyone in the film thought James was out of control and stacking up bodies on a quest for revenge when in actuality he is doing the total opposite. He has buried himself in his work in an attempt to hide from his grief. All of the kills he carries out are either for good unemotional reasons or unavoidable, and most importantly he does not take revenge by killing Dominic Greene or Yusef Kabira who were the 2 people actually complicit in Vesper's death. It does have significant flaws and it may actually work better as an extended coda to Casino Royale but Quantum of Solace is a better film than it is given credit for, that tells a story about revenge and whether there is any solace to be found in not pursuing it.

One thing that is rarely mentioned by fans but sort of alluded to by M, though she doesn't really seem to comprehend the behavior as the refined tactic that it is, is that Bond's primary operational tactic is to do things that disrupt the bad guys. It seems sometimes like he is a bull in a China shop, but in actuality he likes to rattle their cages and then watches them scramble to make sure they aren't exposed. It's sort of a governing philosophy with Bond. Direct action to elicit reactions and then analyze for weakness.

Barbara Broccoli has said that Paul Hagis turned in the first draft of the script minutes before the writer's strike began, and then turned around and picked up a picket sign and joined the strike. They couldnt just wait out the strike because if they had, the actor's striked would have delayed the shooting even further.

People always have doubts about actors taking on roles, like roger Moore when he played bond at first people were sceptical at first because obviously they had Connery for so many years, then there's like Christian bale who got laughed at for taking on the role of batman but that quickly changed once people seen his movie

Off topic from the video, idk how you pick the movies, but would love to see the two of you react to some Studio Ghibli films.

Many have problems with editing, I had no problems with that, it depends on the mental capacity that each one has to retain the images, some need more seconds to assimilate each image and others do not, as in my case, I did not see any problems in that sense, for me the action is very good, it's fast and fast, it's great, it works for me.

Casino and Skyfall are my two fav Craaaig bond movies.

This film was made during a writers strike and Daniel Craig and the director finished the script themselves, which is why it's so short and a little more convoluted than it could have been. They did the best they could, but that's why it's subpar compared to the others in this series

the action was quite good in the movies, gives that shaky confusion and mystery that builds up towards the saga and connects towards the story, i agree the Sequences of just ramming out with fights and him taking the pain and not showing it out with like screaming or anything, and also the girl factor other than the first one,is kept quite low was quite a good choice except what happend to Fields escalated and ended quite like bad for her character, and the friendship circle for James is quite unique to this take as we see the same people quite extensively throughout the saga.

The movie was affected by the writers strike at the time. They had to start shooting with an unfinished script, Daniel Craig even wrote some parts of it because they had no writer, and no one to hire for the job.

While not a very good Bond movie, I actually still like it for the way it further develops Bond as a character and his emotional trauma that affects the films that follow. And because the script was hampered by the Writers' strike, they used a real-world conspiracy for the villains; however, the actual price hike was even steeper in real life, so the movie villains were actually less evil than the real-world ones.

5:08 Lol you guys can’t let the British accents alone can you. When you hear “mom” they are saying “mum” which IS short for ma’am which is also short madam. They are basically saying ma’am :p
