Politicians: we can’t let trans people use the correct bathroom, they’ll sexually assault people! Trans people: * constantly asked textbook inappropriate questions, harassed in restrooms, literally sexually assaulted in public spaces *

Roman Hall Right?? And even then, it makes zero sense. ANYONE can sexually assault ANYONE. Parents who are like “but my child!” No, it’s your own transphobia. If you’re concerned about your kid getting attacked, there are a lot of ways to be safe with them and make sure NOBODY cis or trans attacks them. And let’s face it, no trans person is going to do that. Hopefully no one does.

Oppressors always try to look like they are the victims. People blaming trans for being a danger are the danger. I hope one day it becomes illegal to say that sorts of things about trans, that those transphobic piece of shit don't get away with it anymore.

Lmao yeah but the concern isn’t that trans people will sexually assault people. The concern is that perverts will put on a wig and claim to be transgender so that they could go into the opposite gender bathroom and sexually assault people. No ones scared of people who are actually trans...

I have a fun story about being trans. I was in class (8th grade) and the subject of the lgbt community came up in a class discussion and I talked about how I am trans. And someone asked me "how did you know you where trans" I was like "what do you mean? I just knew." And he said "well, I mean did your parents tell you...?" I honestly don't know what he mean't by that. I'm honestly confused still and it happened like a month ago.

I've found people seem to understand a little better when I explain that it's the same as being gay: you just *know* because of how you feel on the inside. You might not realize what you're feeling for a while, or have the right words to describe it, which is why many people don't come out until they're older. Modern science understands that gender is a spectrum - there's binary options on opposite ends, but an infinite number of options in the middle, and one can even be outside this spectrum entirely. Since it is inherently subjective, each individual is in charge of their own gender identity and nobody else can claim they're wrong. Plus there's such a lack of education, resources, and acceptance. It's hard to figure something out when the subject constantly swept under the rug by society and the only exposure you get is negative. If the only trans people you see while growing up are murder victims on the news, or referred to with derogatory slurs, you'd probably avoid the idea that you might be trans. That's why representation and pride are so important for trans (and all LGBT+) people along with encouraging social acceptance by teaching that trans folks are just as "normal" as cis folks. When you live in a society where the status quo is cis, so everyone is assigned specific gender and raised to believe it's the ONLY way, why would you even consider the possibility that you might be different? Same thing happened to gay people for pretty much all of history - up until very recently (in western countries at least) being gay was viewed as such an abnormal, taboo, sinful, wrong and downright evil thing that most gay people had to hide their identity or sometimes never figured out (or accepted) their sexuality until they were much older. Now it's more generally accepted and understood by society, and better representation and resources are available so kids are exposed to the idea at a younger age. We need to reach this point with trans people in order to make progress. Once I explain these basic concepts/history to cis folks they almost always walk away with a much better understanding.
@aleka..
@aleka.. 5 лет назад
well, it doesn't sound so strange to me, quite the opposite. Cis people are being told what they are, directly, or indirectly by listening to parents answer _is it boy or a girl_ throughout their childhood, pronounces they've been reffered to, etc. It may not occur to them there's a chance to disagree, if they don't feel it's wrong, and didn't question their gender. Assuming you've been told too, without education about trans experiences, I dont know... sound consistent?

I have a weird coming out story, but it’s a heartfelt one. When I first realized I was trans and started taking steps with my appearance to look more masculine I had come out to my friends but none of my family yet. I had planned to spend some time with my Brother and during this time was going to tell him that I’m trans and prefer he/him now. We were in the mall, sitting in a couple of outdoor chairs (was a mostly outside plaza mall) and I told him that there was something I wanted to tell him. Without a pause or hesitation he responded with “What’s up Bro?” Sure, I had made some changes, not said anything to most people, but it was amazing for me that before I even truly came out and told him he understood. I love my Bro, I couldn’t ask for a better person to be Siblings with.

I haven't had any really bad or interesting scenarios like that, but I had a really positive one recently. I go and play trivia (Geeks Who Drink) every week with friends. We sat at one of the high-top tables in the bar and the bartender referred to me as "lady." I'm only 9 months into my transition and I know I don't pass yet - so I lightheartedly corrected her. She apologized and we went on with our evening. When it came time to pay for our checks ... she never brought me mine. At first I was a touch annoyed until she came over and told me that she was so mortified at misgendering me, that the tab was on her. I was so touched at the gesture, so I thanked her profusely and we hugged. Our trivia team didn't win that week, but that made my entire week. :)

Got no club stories (yet), but when I was at a airport, my glasses broke off my face. Which I guess made me look more masculine off, since when I went through security they read me as male and put me down as that, I wasn't packing or wearing a binder so the chest part went off. People are looking twice now, and I can't stand being seen as a girl so all I could manage to say was "uhh no no you're not wrong..." They seem to understand me, so they had a man pat me down (he was nice, if not worried about touching me, even asked if I wanted to go somewhere private but I just wanted to be done with it all) So yeah that was the first time I ever came out as a man. 😅

My worst trans experience is when I had to come out to my mom. So i dont tlove talking about my feelings or expericing them to people. Its more like if someone is asking about my personal stuff I get tense and uncomfortable. That means when I want to come out or if someone asks me of I'm trans, ithe hardest thing to do its just to say yes. Now my mom asked me one day what was going on with me (because I figured that i was trans nd dressed differently) so she was like something changed. And then i started crying and wanting to leave but i couldnt because i had to tell her. In the end I didnt actually say i was trans but i just told her she was right. Now that was a horrible night and I wish it would have never happened before Because I still dont know if i am trans and my gender is very confusing and stuff My parents kept coming into my room and they allways are making me cry and its just the most painful thing ever I cant really say what they say to me, its always different, but now it's mostly stuff about God Sigh
@xejune

I had a very similar experience with my coming out. Both with not directly telling my parents I was trans but confirming their guess instead (or rather, I said "I'm not sure yet") and with my mom coming into my room saying painful things or stuff about god. Things ended up working out for me over time, by some miracle, but everyone's situation is different. So a word of advice: Ignore the pressure from them. Take your time figuring things out. You don't owe them answers.

Man, I've always been afraid of something like this happening to me. I'm an intersex trans guy (CAFAB) and a sexual assault survivor, so the idea of someone harassing me about my gender in a way that targets my body parts (especially *private* ones) pushes all the wrong buttons of my PTSD. I used to be terrified to use the men's restroom for the same reasons, since the whole "bathroom bill" fiasco led to an onslaught of comments from bigots who proposed things like airport x-ray scanners outside restrooms to scan everyone for the "correct" parts. For some reason there seems to be a popular opinion that trans people are obligated to disclose their transness, including answering whatever inappropriate questions people ask, and describing or even SHOWING our body parts on demand. As if we're circus animals on display, and our bodies are available 24/7 for hands-on interactive anatomy lessons. We're expected to be responsible for teaching society about us because "well don't you transgendereds want people to understand you???" Yeah sure, of course that means being in the spotlight of impromptu Q&A sessions and having zero physical or emotional boundaries, giving people whatever information they want, only in ways that directly benefits them and not us. Silly me, how could I forget? 🙄 It doesn't help that trans people have little to no legal protections against harassment, assault, abuse, or any forms of discrimination, whether sexual or otherwise. Hell in most US States the "trans panic" defense is still legally available, so anyone can straight up murder a trans person (usually trans women as they are disproportionately more often the victims of violent crimes) and claim they were just so shocked and disturbed by the discovery of their transness that they momentarily lost their mind and aren't responsible for their actions. Because hey, we all know trans people are terrifying freaks of nature so nobody would blame you, right? It's basically a crime of passion, or at least self-defense against the overwhelming emotional trauma of interacting with those abominations! Yeah that law pretty much sums up society's view of trans people... That's why being an intersex trans guy in the men's restroom/locker room used to scare me. I really didn't want to be confronted, even if I can "prove" I'm a guy with my driver's licence or something, it's still not something anyone should have to worry about. There's been young trans girls harassed in school and asked completely violating questions. Trans people have been beaten, r*ped, and killed in restrooms. But luckily I've actually never had a problem. Turns out guys are so awkward and shy in the restroom, they rarely even make eye contact, let alone speak to each other lol. And I pass well enough that I've stopped being so worried about it. But going to a club or something like that... You're a lot braver than me, Ty!

kiwikidney So a guy explains how exhausting it is to always have to justify and explain yourself and the only thing which comes to your mind is « How do you work ? » And you think a « just curious » makes things better ? I’m cis, among other parts of my identity but I can answer to you : everything you need to know is in the definition of the words he used. Guy ==> He identify as a male. Trans ==> He wasn’t assigned male at birth. As gender assignation at birth is binary you can conclude he was assigned female. Intersex : He was born with a body which is neither totally male nor totally female. You know, if you are curious just google the terms “guy”, “trans” and “intersex” and you can learn a lot by yourself without taking the risk to offend anyone.

First love this new setup you’ve got going on. Second, what the fuck. I was not expecting that. If a guy were to stick his hand down a women’s pants there would be an up roar. A story on the news, a go fund me page, for whatever reason. Seriously tho bless you for being so calm and cool. I don’t know how I would’ve reacted.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. If genders were reversed this scenario would have ended with jail time for sexual assault. I'm glad Ty is okay and it's up to him up decide how to handle it, but part of me feels that allowing this crime to go unpunished is contributing to toxic masculinity and the concept that men "can't be sexually assaulted" because women are just "inherently less threatening/dangerous" and not seen as predators. Also the ongoing issue with cis people thinking trans people are lesser and therefore we should open ourselves and our private lives (or private parts) to them at their request. However I saw her behavior as absolutely predatory, maybe not in a sexual way (she wasn't trying to sleep with him) but she thinks rules don't apply to her and she's more powerful than Ty - she's allowed to take what she wants and do whatever she wants because "men like him don't fight back" or whatever fucked up reasoning. I think Ty was probably just embarrassed and didn't feel threatened so he didn't want to make a big deal out of it, that's why he chose to simply move on. But imagine if a man asked a woman several inappropriate questions about her genitals, while intoxicated, and *shoved his hand down her pants* after she said no... That would be on the news! That dude would be arrested before he could blink! Idk I just think the whole thing is disturbing and it breaks my heart that men, like Ty in this case, don't think it's worth defending their boundaries, that it's not important, or it's not a big deal. Because I absolutely think it's a big deal :/

This is a topic I think about a lot because I also want to honor people's pronouns. But my partner is a cis woman who's been misgendered her whole life because of the way people perceive her. So I know that, while asking directly is the only for sure way to know someone's pronouns, ive definitely seen people ask in a way that singles out people they find ""ambiguous"". It doesnt sound like you did this in this situation especially when sharing your story with this drunk person lol but I see people ask others for their pronouns in a way that is really cringey. I've really tried to train myself to use they pronouns (or no pronouns if possible) so that if someone wants to share that, they can but if not, I'm not misgendering them. Just normalizing sharing pronouns (like in email signatures, profile headers, etc) is helpful with this.

I've only come out like 6 times and everyone's taken it really well. My worst experiences have been probably when, after coming out in a friend group chat, it took one friend a week to recover from the shock until they finally responded to me. Also, another friend, after receiving my text, was so shocked that they walked out of their house and went to hide behind their firewood shed to recover. It took me some time to calm them down. 😂

OK, I do have a killer strange club experience to share. I was out dancing with my college pals , and we were joined by a friend of mine from work, "S.: To this point in my life, I had not been with a guy. I was dancing with a girl I knew that had recently broken up with her fiancé. He appeared on the dance floor while we were dancing together and proceeded to get really close to me and began kicking me really hard on my legs and thighs . The girl was mortified and left the club. I stumbled back to my friends, obviously hurt from his attack. I pointed him out when they asked what happened, and my friends were not having that . Went out to the parking lot and "S" proceeded to beat the crap and bravado out of that idiot . We all left and went to my house to clean me up and instead of going back out , we stayed at my place. My pals went on to their beds I had already prepared. I had no other place for "S" and asked if he minded sleeping with me . He was fine with that and we all went to bed. "S" was incredibly hot, and I had checked him out a lot at work and here we were in my bed with an AC Unit that was so loud that no one could hear anything from my room. As we were getting comfortable and , I turned to him and thanked him for rescuing me earlier and told him that if he ever needed anything,just tell me . To my surprise, he pulled off his shirt and underwear and said : 'How about a blow job?." I told him that I had never given one, but was glad to learn how ! He showed me what he liked and I was in heaven . We were together for a little over a year before some of his issues became too much for me . I had to get beat up at a club to have my first Gay experience .

Damn that's a shit ton of patience you have there dude. I would have been mortified. I don't have any club or super awkward coming out experiences the worst thing I think was my coworker telling me "I just don't see you as a group of people" in reference to my pronouns. She came around after a couple of weeks of me saying no im not identifying as a group of people im just not a dude or a chick and the pronoun is already commonly used in a neutral manner.

I understand the want to continue the conversation and possibly educate or have a friendly debate, and I also understand the want to not make a big deal out of when it goes downhill and no one gets hurt. At the same time, even when legal action wasn't taken and you were able to brush it off, that's still sexual assault and that's not ok. I hope her friends had a real conversation with her once she got sober.

I've only been out and on HRT for about a year now. Honestly my transness hasn't really come up all that much but the most "forced to come out" experience I've had is when my normal hair stylist had to book me with someone else while they were out of town and my conversation with this lady who didn't know I was trans. She asked how me and my partner conceived our children. I had to explain that they were biological and that it was possible because I was trans.

Thanks for your videos. You look so nice, it feels like i'm "talking" with a friend. And it's nice to hear some trans people talk about their junk like "yeah i didn't have the surgery and i'm fine with it, it's my body and it's normal". I'm like that too, and sometimes it's just hard to feel like even in the trans community you don't fit, you're weird, because you do think your genitals are horrendous and you don't hate your body.... It's like people want me to hate my body all my life, because i'm trans, i should hate myself and never be contented. Once again, thanks for making me feel like i have a trans friend that understand me ;)

I was at a club, minding my business with friends, and this guy kept trying to sell me Jell-O shots. I could tell he was interested in me because the way I’m GNC is truly an experience. On the third refusal of Jell-O shots, he proceeded to reach down and grab my junk. I tried to report him to the owner of the bar. The owner told me “This is a gay club. Stop being childish”. It was time to go at that point. Yeah, I’m never going back there.

Yikes. Sexual assault definitely isn't legal no matter what type of bar it is. And it's not "childish" to have boundaries with your body. Technically you could have reported it to the police, since it's still a crime. I hope it never happens to you again.

I have this happen almost every day from most sober people.... This seems to be sadly a 'usual' occurrence for trans people. But I am very similar in the fact that if I get into a conversation about being trans, I try to help educate them even if they aren't asking in the most polite way because at the end of the day, trans people had to ask the same questions themselves once upon a time. I'm always very polite about it, even if it looks like it's not going the best way. And to be honest, I really don't like confrontations, so if it looks like we're not going to agree then I give them a hug to keep it on mutual friendliness grounds and not left in the negative of getting into a 'debate' about who and what I am. And this might sound bad, but I'm actually quite comforted that I am not the only person going through this. Situations like this can make me feel embarrassed and ashamed to a certain degree. It's obviously not a good thing, not by any means, but I know now that I'm not going crazy and like I'm being individually targeted...if that makes sense.
