Sustainably Vegan i dont buy diposable razors any more i have a Remington corded vintage electric lady shaver i love it diposable razors are wasteful i am trying to be low waste
Horse chestnuts are a good alternative to soap nuts and can be picked up when your out for a walk without anyone or anything suffering as a result. Look up you tube videos on how to use them.
All good the know products. Look forward to the toothbrush giveaway. Realy like the dry shampoo idea.. I bought some at the store in an aerosole can. It was awful smelling and just clung on for days till I could shampoo it out. Had to get rid of it. Ha, the first razor I ever used was a safety razor. Did you know that most older homes had a built in notch in the bathroom wall just for sticking your used blades in? The insides of lots of bathroom walls were full of them. Pretty neat way of diposing of them. Cheers.
Love it 😍 Right now I’m too young to live on my own. My age is stopping me from wanting to live my lifestyle I want. I want to become vegetarian, but my family loves meat. I want to live zero waste, but my family produce a lot trash. So I just have to wait when I get a job, a house, and my age.
Sam Lam i have the same problem too. But I do my bit. I make sure whatever I’m doing is zero waste and I make homemade products for myself. Slowly my family started adapting few changes in their life too. I won’t say they will completely change, but we can do what we want right?
Sam Lam I have the same problem as well. My family tries to recycle and my mother isn't opposed to natural toothbrushes. Just do what you can and say things like, "Oh, actually you could recycle that!" if someone is wasteful. It's great that you're trying to make a change though!
saf elb absolutely but most sellers who advertise themselves as zero waste will have sustainable or recycled packaging and you can always message them first :) ❤️
I'm interested in seeing a video to learn more about how you pick second hand items. Do you aim for vegan items and sustainable materials? Would you buy a non-vegan or plastic item second hand over a new sustainable thing? Thanks ☺
The more I grow into my zero waste and vegan life the more I just refuse unsustainable and non-vegan items. I would most likely buy a second hand wool jumper but never anything secondhand made of leather - but that doesn't mean second hand leather is bad as its eco friendly because well its skin and by buying it second hand you're not supporting the industry through money. I just don't want to promote leather items, and I don't like the idea of wearing someone else;s skin. I think I will def do a video on it as well as I'm just about to go to America - and I always go thrift shopping when i'm there !
Aleppo soap is really good for the hair and it is organic and fair trade and it is only wraped with paper...hibiskus is good for a sour wash ( instead of conditioner)
New here and I'm just in love with your videos!! You are so considerate and kind! you are awesome and your ideas really do help change my life and lifestyle! thank you so much :)
Loved this! Slowly but surely I will downgrade all the junk I don't need. Also, I feel like it would be easier to apply your dry shampoo if you have it in a spray bottle:) i know when I use corn starch on my hair I literally just grab it from the box and hope to not make a mess but with a spray bottle it'd be a bit more precise and distribute it better:) looking forward for some toothbrushes!:D
Would love a video on your Crossfit experience. Stuff like, whether or not you were already exercising before starting out with it and why you like it etc :)
My local health food store, and a lot of them in general, has bulk Castile soap and eco friendly poo and conditioner, it's a much more waste free option if you can't let go of your shampoo and conditioner products.
What do you use for laundry then? 😭 I've been using soap nuts, and baking soda and vinegar for softening. How do I do laundry and cleaning without soap nuts? I switched to it cause it's more natural, sustainable, etc
Super helpful! I bought a big box of bamboo toothbrushes over a year ago and still have a bunch left! I wasn't happy that they shipped from Australia though, since I live in Canada, the fuel waste to get them to me seemed to counteract the good I was doing choosing bamboo lol. Where did you get the razor though? Is it like, a legit men's razor that you just got at a normal store, or some special eco-brand? I've been looking for a reusable razor for a while, and am REALLY getting sick of the cheap garbage plastic ones I'm currently using. Thanks for your awesome content!
+Emily Norman brush naked would be a good brand for you then because they're based in Canada! I bought it from a Zero Waste Shop in London but it is a legit luxury men's razor - it's not a special eco brand they just make quality ones that last! Nothing scary about them - they're great! I use them on my legs and armpits and haven't nicked myself at all!
Sustainably Vegan That's great to hear about the toothbrushes! I'll totally look to that. And I'll try an find a similar razor around my neck of the woods. Thanks for your help!
I would recommend getting one with a longer handle, if possible. The length of men's handles is perfect for using on the face and is fine for armpits, but a bit longer of a handle makes shaving the legs easier.
So I've been spending the last like 10 years buying makeup wipes and all to find out that hot water and a wash cloth works so well. I've had less break outs since I've stopped using soap, face wash and makeup wipes. I'm guessing watching commercials is what made me feel like u needed all that stuff but hot water has been working just fine
I love love your videos! However, I was wondering what sort of make-up you use! Do you use sustainable mascara or eyeliner? Anyway, your channel is awesome and I'm implementing more and more of your methods every day!
Hey thanks for your comment! I have minimised my make up over the past few years building on my confidence so I don't feel the need to wear as much anymore. I now only use 3 products (mascara, concealer, and bronzer sometimes) I rarely use my liquid eyeliner but i've had it for a while so not its not sustainable. I have been researching and recently experimenting with making my own make up. I hope to come up with a better solution soon - at the moment I try not to wear make up everyday and happy to have minimised so much!!
Although this is more Laundry related then bathroom they do relate to each other...basically when washing your clothes do you use refillable liquid wash , soap nuts , make your own and or another alternative ?
Tamy S I use coconut or avocado oil. These oils are very healthy for your skin, but if you have light skin I wouldn't use it as sun protection. For sure, you can use it as aftersun ;)
Everyone is susceptible to skin cancer, regardless of skin color. The American Academy of Dermatologists recommend everyone to wear broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 30 or higher every day you will be outside. Do not use oil! That's basically the exact opposite of sunscreen. Though I don't have any plastic-free recommendations, Asian sunscreen products are completely different from Western ones if you want to wear sunscreen every day without smelling like the beach! Biore UV Watery Essence is one popular choice.
xmanganimex Have you ever checked the ingredients of sunscreen? They're carcinogenic... And I don't spend too much time in the sun. 30 minutes and I turn around, again 30 minutes, then going in the house or in the shadow for a while. So for a full day at the beach, these oils aren't appropriate...
www.amazon.co.uk/Shade-All-Natural-Sunscreen-SPF25-Unscented/dp/B00L3M270A I found this brand. It comes in a metal container which I'm sure you can recycle. I know it's not ideal sometimes to order things online but sometimes it's worth it.
Alex C Sounds good! The ingredients are healthy, but I think the price will frighten off a lot of people. Good that I'm saving a lot of money (~2000€ /year) by not smoking 😆 Sometimes it's so calming when you compare a few things ;)
Sorry if I’ve missed it from one of ur other videos but that’s interesting about the soap nuts, I’m glad I didn’t invest I then then I guess. What do you do for laundry detergent then?
WHY IS YOUR SKIN SO NICE IF YOU JUST USE SOAP AND WATER???????? I've gotten rid of all the chemicals and non-natural brand and my face is still not clear (its a lot better but it's not like yours)
I eat very carefully for my skin as I am prone to acne on my cheeks and drink a ton of water - I have to make sure my face is clean before I go to bed or again I wake up with spots. I have found for my skin less is more otherwise it gets irritated and uneven!! It has taken me a long time to get it under control!
I would get huge cystic acne as a teenager but then I became lactose intolerant and cutting dairy products out completely changed my skin along with silicone free lotions and tea tree oil
Some more sustainable mascara would probably be cake mascara. There’s a company that does it and has some reusable mascara brushes; called Besame cosmetics, here’s the link: besamecosmetics.com/collections/eyes
Great video! I use a crystal deodorant but it comes in a plastic (possibly reusable) container. But my husband can’t use it because apparently you need to be clean shaven. Could he use this one (featured in this video)? We would both like to switch. Thanks!
Ti Co the soap nuts are grown and used for ages. But since the West has found out about the nuts and made it a trend, the local people cant afford to use the nuts anymore. So thats a sad thing... But you can make washsoap yourself from chestnuts! If you Google chestnuts soap you will find a recipe. :)
Hello, dear. Question from one curly girl to another: You actually do brush you curly hair twice a day? Really? Does it not get frizzy then? Can you still wear it down after brushing or do you have to do buns/plaits/updos? If I brush my curls, I look like a fuzzy cotton ball - not in a good way ;-)
Haha so do I but at the moment because my hair is still transitioning from the no shampoo thing I have to brush it! Usually I would only brush it before I wash it.
Deborah Lenihan she uses self made tooth paste. She has a video about it. You just need coconut oil baking soda and pepermint oil. It works really well. 😊
hopegirl518 Ashlynn - my understanding was that their cultivation provided an income for the locals. ‘No longer affording them’ seems silly - they aren’t a foodstuff, and they are sustainable. I still don’t get it.
I totally agree! Soap nuts grow on trees in the tropics - locals can surely save enough for their needs and sell the rest. They are completely sustainable and produce a crop every year.
I use one and personally I find that I never get razor burns or ingrown hairs anymore after switching from a conventional razor. I get so much less irritation. I think it is because it is one blade and not 3-5 going over you skin at one time. It definitely shaves close enough in my experience too.
