We desperately need a new generation of ME literate paediatricians like Dr Speight.

Great interview! But as someone who’s had ME since I was 14 in 1995 I must say it’s extremely depressing and disheartening to reflect on how little progress there’s been in that time.

Really interesting listening to this lovely man. I didn’t get ME/CFS until my 50’s. It’s unthinkable how hard it must be as a child or young adult to get this horrid illness. My heart literally breaks for all the young people who get this. Thank you for trying to educate xx

Can confirm it is very devastating when it happens at a young age. I got it as a teen, ten years later I am just as ill and can neither work nor attend college.

VERY interesting and so sadly the truth about MyalgicEncephalomyelitis. Thank you for this insightful account outlining the biggest medical scandal for centuries. The game is up for the psych narrative which is a constant insult to those of us who’ve been battling for years with this awful disease.

Fantastic interview and such a brilliant insight by Nigel. The comparison between CFS and Alzheimer’s being called Chronic Forgetfulness Syndrome was so clever. Thanks so much Dan and Dr Nigel, fabulous.

Dr Speight talking about lack of understanding and treatment... when being sent to hospital for an appendicitis (I didn't have) and sleeping nearly 24 hours a day for the duration of my stay, having experienced an anaphylactic shock and unexplained vomiting and I used to wait up with a group of doctors standing at the end of my bed, just staring at me, looking thoughtful! I left the hospital without my appendix! But thank goodness they didn't force me to stay awake! Thankful for small mercies! First Do No Harm!

Thank you so much for the video! The perspective of pediatricians and children with ME is particularly challenging and it is great to have compassionate doctors like Dr. Speight. Who knows where we would be today if other doctors had the same level of courage.

Thanks Daniel and Dr Spieght (and Mov) for sharing this. I feel somewhat validated. I really hope the medical community will open their minds and take a more multi-system and multi-discipline approach - we very much need it. Yours, one of the 1.25 million UK sufferers, who has just had to give up his biz due to the disease.

THANK YOU DR.Nigel SPEIGHT ,Daniel and all concerned for your excellent Medical fact based and experience based discussion. This is the best talk on the medical condition known as M.E.( Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) that I have listened to in the last ten years.I hope anyone who listens will consider forwarding it to their family and friends.First do no harm is supposed to be the stardard the medical profession uphold but their ignorance is causing more pain not less.Shame on anyone harming suffering children and putting their own ignorance before caring for some of the most vulnerable people they are being trusted to help. If THEY themselves don't believe the science what good are they?

I don't really watch podcasts because my ME doesn't allow me to. But I managed this one and I am absolutely flawed by Dr Speights insights, experiences and knowledge. Thank you so much for this insightful interview.

Thank you for helping parents and their children. Diagnosis and labels really do help a child and hopefully protect the parents. So if they try to convince you, 'you don't want him/her labelled' watch out! It only took 1 educational psychologist to turn the whole system against us. To be accused and not believed does untold damage for years to the whole family. We are still recovering 15 years later. When all you wanted was to help your child be a happy, healthy child.

Thank you for this, it was most interesting! I had ME in the late 80s/early 90s and was lucky enough to recover naturally. I then got covid and it came back worse than before. I really need help but there nothing offered by the NHS for ME. The long covid clinic told me to do more and I crashed badly. Thanks again.

I had a dr. Very similar to this lovely man...full of credibility and other life qualities. Dr John Gerrard was so dedicated! He seen patients long into his 90s at his home. "They" ran him out of the hispital for trying to put people on elimination diets. He was the first physician in the world to give an allergic child a peanut and soon after inject the child with an epipin. I bet this man knew of him.he practiced in saskatchewan, canada

If this is Dr Speight that worked in the Durham (Dryburn) hospital in the mid/late 80s please pass on a hello from me. He was instrumental in how my life turned out (he gave me one of the first volumatics to use/test which improved my health) and set me on track for my future life (he was one of the people who fought for me to go to a special boarding school dealing with my condition). I think the last time I saw him was in the early 90s at the hospital when I tagged along to an appointment my nephew had. If this is the same Dr Speight say hello, thanks and that my health is great these days and I found my calling in IT.
