The documentary leads along the river bends of the Yellowstone National Park to unravel the mysterious disappearance of the elk. Once tens of thousands roamed the valleys, now fewer and fewer elk reach their winter grounds in the northern ranges.
The film follows three researchers on their investigative journey to solve the Yellowstone puzzle: An elk biologist, a grizzly bear expert, and a specialist on the infamous lake trout - an invasive species to the National Park.
With the help of ground-breaking methods they discover previously unknown connections between grizzly bears, lake trouts and elks and thus grow to appreciate the complexity - and beauty - of one of North America’s most famous National Parks.

What an interesting video. Thank you for informing us on why the grizzlies are killing and eating the poor baby elk. Unbelievable reasons but true. I learn so much from your videos. Thank you. Of course the main culprit is man. That is a culprit thats 90% responsible for everything going wrong.

So the decline of the white pine trees due to infestations of beetles is caused by climate change? What predator of the beetle has been decimated, to allow their numbers to proliferate?

"Man" is not to blame. It is certain individuals who are to blame. As is happening in other ecosystems in the world where devastation has been caused by stupid and arrogant scientists who are grossly outside their familiarity zone, they took action which to their petty minds seemed intelligent but even your average farmer would have called for caution. The worst instance of this was the PhD scientists who operated a park only one third smaller than Yellowstone... Kakadu National Park in north Australia. Their first error was to take advice from acculturated former cattle station Aborigines and this precipitated vast fires that wiped out entire ecosystems and one third of our northern Cypress. This also caused the deaths of animals and birds who live in hollow logs and trees, ironwood in particular, which burned so fiercely that the teeth and bones of animals thus incinerated, turn to ash and are therefore not known to have died. Thirty years later, these same scientists plagiarised my research which proved them at fault. But this did not happen until gullible scientists in Yellowstone and other US parks, swallowed their mantra that "fire is natural and good" and let these go out of control, destroying entire plant species and damaging soils. But even before this, similar scientists introduced the cane toad into Australia, which is continuing to decimate entire species in the hundreds. Hundreds of plants brought in by other scientists, agronomists, have wreaked havoc and actually eliminated wetland ecosystems on a vast scale. Get the message? It is not "man" that is destroying our planet, but irresponsible scientists who are so corrupt they can be bribed to mandate AGW despite 1700 of the world's top climate scientists condemning this. By my reckoning most of the catastrophes effecting humanity and life are caused by scientists, the most recent being the toxic gases and heavy metals that damage life and the ozone layer with every single launching of a satellite... hundreds of square kilometres each time. Yet this documentry presents scientists as the saviours. Propaganda; nothing else. Meanwhile gullible and dimwitted readers are sucked in by their transparent assertions. Happily, some scientists are equally outraged and the guilty will one day be held to accountable.

Same has happened in the 1970th in Réunion island, were some "scientists" from French Cirad wildly introduced species to improve cows-feed that proved to be invasive. Nowadays there are no cows anymore, and their invasive species gain ground each year. Another good example was the introduction of Cryptomeria japonica, a needle tree introduced from Japan by ONF, that was massively planted in the 1950th: to serve as fuel for the sugar mills. Today the trees a ripe: but there is few use of it: because sugar mills have longtime ago changed to diesel, or other fossil fuels. They cut them down and leave them rotting in the place because they planted as much in the 1950th they cannot get rid off them anymore. But those guys that did this, lived their lives, were the glory man and still believe in their shitty-work. We have 3000 introduced plants, against 900 native that remain. Dumb at work. Rainbow trouts had been introduced also in some rivers: they finished with anything native from our island, including endemic species.

There is a proven correlation between the introduction of wolves and the decline in elk numbers. Defenders of the wolf would have you believe that there are other reasons for this decline. Of course, the trout problem is real and the battle to re-establish an ecosystem is commendable. But I can't believe that the decline in trout is the main reason for the decline in elk. It may be contributing to it, but frankly....it's twisted! Bears are omnivores, so they have plenty of options other than attacking elk fans, which are hard to detect despite their sense of smell. Science has a nice ring to it! The convergence of factors is obvious, but it's certain that the wolf is playing a major role in this decline. Yellowstone is the greatest natural fiction novel ever produced. We are told everything and its opposite.

When wolves were eradicated in Yellowstone, the elk numbers exploded. Wolves were imported from Canada to repopulate the park and contain elk numbers. The trade in beaver pelts caused such a steep decline in numbers that the lack of beaver dams allowed the ground to dry out. Maybe micromanaging things that are imperfectly understood without careful consideration of the ramifications of an action BEFORE it is taken would be best?

I would remind you that it was a hunter, Theodore Roosevelt, who created most of the American national parks, just as it was hunters who created most of the African nature parks. Hunters are often at the forefront of observing the disappearance of animals and sounding the alarm. Bison and elk were often the first source of food for thousands of American settlers as they made their way west before building farms and ranches. It was colonisation that destroyed these animals, which had been hunted by the Indians for thousands of years without any problems. See further than the end of your nose!
