I'm glad the tortoise has a good home with you and will be taken care of, to me it looks like a Lego brick, so maybe you could name it "Lego"? Love y'all!!
Having Kate doing the camera work and asking questions is great! She always asks the same questions that I think of too! It's a great way of keeping Kate involved . Thanks Kate!!
It's so cute that your current tortoises follow you around and they all come and greet the new baby! 😊 💜 it does make me sad though that he/she wasn't properly taken Care of before, but at least now he/she is with you and will have an amazing life!!
I’ve taken in rescue box turtles, and I get a lot of them with infection and bone disease. I’ve saved a lot of them and it’s really nice to see an animal get better, even if it’s shell never fully heals, it’s good to see them live a happy life :D
Yeeeesh! Metabolic bone disease is horrible and scarily common. I was given a horsfield tortoise with MBD who was 8 years old and had been kept in a drawer with no UV his whole life. He had completely lost the use of his legs. He had been impulse bought and they had no idea of his requirements and hadn’t done any research. Go Kenan for taking in that little lady, she will have a lovely life with you ❤️
9:50 the moment when Kate change camera angle to back.. can see zombie tortoise love them ❤❤❤ poor new one as Kenan says may (in past) have tiny space to live and poor food diet hope you can give the love that he/she never have it before
Love how all the other Tortoises are coming over to say hi to their new friend. I’m always for the underdog and this little guy needs some tender loving care. Bless his heart. At least now you’ll be fed a proper diet buddy. Hope to hear an update on him! Definitely a great teachable video!!! 🐢🐢🐢 Thanks again! Hi Kate and Kenan from Sheba in Nashville, TN
Breaks my heart how ppl can endanger animals, whether it be through neglect or ignorance! Thank God he/she is with Kenan, and God willing, live out it’s life in a gorgeous/safe setting, with correct nutrition, healthcare, company of other torts, and plenty of love and care!! 💔👍🙏🐢🌵🌞🎋🍉🥕🥬🥒🍓🍌
At least he's at a home now that he'll get proper care and live a happier life in that enclosure!!! Oh and I second Dr. Croc's "Boots" name..... luv it!!!
Poor baby. You’re giving him a happy life for the rest of his life and as long as he isn’t suffering that’s what matters. I’m all for the name Quasimodo
I have three rescue redfoots and live in Michigan. They go outside in the summer and have a 8x4 tortoise table with a green house top inside. Fresh food 5 times a week and supplemented with mazuri. They’re still kind of young, 6, 6 and 7 years old. One of them has some slight pyramiding, from when she was younger, but it’s been mostly corrected as she’s grown. Before I got them they were all kept in aquariums that they couldn’t turn around in. I’m honestly lucky they look as good as they do. I can’t imagine letting one of my animals look like that. I sincerely hope it’s a case of ignorance and not blatant neglect. Thank you for taking the little one in though, while he probably already has a shortened life span because of the MBD, I’m sure it would have been even shorter without coming to you.
So glad that tortoise has a great home now so it can eat healthy and live its life comfortable,so with that being said I think its name should be..."LUCKY"
Thats so upsetting... i hope the person who previously owned that red foot never touches another animal again. Im especially upset aswell that they lied to you and said the tortoise was healthy, when it was far from it. I hope it does well in your care now.
We gotta just think the previous owner didn't think he'd done any wrong to that little guy "bumpy"! He may have thought everything was fine because he didn't do research or may have never seen another looking any different. I wonder also if he told kenan he was totally healthy so he could go live a much better life at the kamp, after he realized little "bumpy" wasn't doing good! That's what I'm gonna hope.
I would say they should never get a animal without doing intense proper research and making sure they stick to it to a T. Unfortunately too many people get reptiles and think they're doing all they can for it but really they're hurting it but not by hand. It's extremely sad but I would like to give them the benefit of a doubt.
@@stephanieann6622 I agree. Anytime anybody gets an animal, even a gold fish, they should always research the proper way to care for them. There is no excuse for people to not do so with a plethora of info on the internet. This of course refers to countries like U.S. where majority of the population have access like the library.
It is sad when I see people with pets they did almost no research on, or really sad/stupid guestions on live animal reviews on websites like PetSmart. I saw someone asking if ball pythons were poisonous.
Kenan I think it's awesome you are housing the little one. I had the same thing happen, they said the R.E.S. was great, came to me and had an unturned shell, with Pitts, and the bottom of the shell bendy. After a year and a half he's not bendy, and growing tons. It's nice to see him improving so much.
I love how educational you always are and how much you care about your animals. I live in Louisiana and want to start with a couple red foots kept outside, and I learned so much from your channel. I hope you can get this little girl feeling and moving better. If someone can't keep an animal properly, they shouldnt keep it.
I second Boots I like that name. I was thinking Gimpy, looking forward to seeing how he acclimates with the others too. He's going to be much happier with you, I'm sure even in this video the poor guy was probably a bit overstimulated and confused at his new situation.
Hello KATE and KENAN. those red foots are beautiful. Great but kind of sad video well she got comfortable quick at least she’ll be happier with the others I understand you don’t like taking animals from ppl but this is what you like to do KENAN making this tortoise happy and letting her enjoy the rest of her life on this earth even if it is for a short period of time not saying this for this tortoise luv your videos Kenan keep up the great work you do for all your babies 🥰👍🏾
Question kenan, In the video you say that you plan not to breed this turtle. How do you plan to do this? Will you take her out during breeding season or some form of spading (though I'm not sure if there is a safe way to do that or not.)? I'm curious of the subject. Love your channel btw.
Name them Tread or Pharaoh. Turtles are a lot of work. I have a Red Eared Slider named Shelly. He takes a lot of time. He has a huge tank with a basking area. He has UVA, UVB, and Heat lamp. The UV bulbs get changed monthly. However, he is amazing to watch and answers to his name. In his old life, he was in a 10 gallon tank.. No lamp... hardly any water... No basking area. No water heater. It was sad. He looked like he had the beginning of shell rot. He was about 4 and a half inches when I bought him. The person I got him from said they won him at a festival and was told they would stay small as long as they were in a small tank. (This is not true) I'm glad I saved him. I love watching this youtube channel as it really has taught me a lot about turtle care and turtle species. You guys rock!
Thanks for turning your unboxing into a teachable moment. It’s not often you get to see the imperfect side of raising a tortoise. I’m just weighing in with a name vote and i say you should name it Lemon. ☺️
This is a valuable film to those of us who watch and learn from your expansive experience. No doubt the former owner did the best they could to keep their animal healthy. Thanks for being generous in your restraint in criticizing former owner. Please keep educating us.
Show him a beautiful life please. Call him ( Quasimodo ..) I don't think it's a genetic thing. So he should be able to mate . He just needs some love and good food .
I think it is the calcium deficiency he is worried about. If it is a female it's likely she won't be able to have healthy eggs and the stress of laying them along with the nutrients making eggs require would most likely kill the animal. That is if she is female. Not sure about it if is a male though.
@@Songbird1977jk I'm just glad he is going to keep " HER" first name choice was for a " Him" so how about "BELLA" since she is now invited to the ball .lol I hope she does well I feel bad for her . I inherited a box turtle. I'm still trying to figure things out with him. So it's about looking into what good for that turtle.
Thank you! I did learn today, and lovin' it. My redfoot, Abligail Gretchen, is 16. I've had had her always, no bigger than eyeglass lens. Now she lives outside( So.Fl). I've always had concerns of her diet and growth. Today I learned she's WONDERFUL! ❤🐢
We have had a turtle for the last year, and each week we change his water, clean the enclosure and add new fishes for him and after a year of being alone, he has a friend, and I have to say, comparing him to his new friend, he has grown way more than I thought
How about naming the new red foot “LUCKY.” Because he is one lucky little dude to be living at Kamp Kenan now. He won the tortoise lottery as far as I’m concerned, lol.
Saying it looks like a saddle is a perfect description, looks exactly like he’s wearing a western saddle. On the positive side he has a perfect home now ❤️
Hi Kenan and Kate! Someone in the comments below said to name it Giza if it was a girl I like that name like the Giza Pyramids. Several people also said name it lucky I think that's fitting as well. Because it's extremely lucky to be at your camp now. Love the education you bring to light for people.
Its sad about its shell poor little guy/gal. But, he looked super happy cruising around the outside habitat! I would love to have a turtle/tortoise but I don't have the room to give it the life it needs so I just enjoy the turtles I see on your channel as well as a few other channels (your my favorite turtle channel!
Attraversiamo is the Italian word for “Let’s Cross Over” - it symbolizes the act of moving into new life - crossing into the future - which is what your new tortoise has been blessed with. S/He could have been blessed with no better steward than you and your family and the beautiful Red Foots who welcomed him/her. Tortoises that are not regarded so highly and taken care of like you take care of them would not immediately come and make such an effort to greet him/her. Your stewardship is GREAT... ATTRAVERSIAMO - crossing over into a new life!
So pleased she's going to have such an awesome retirement!! She seemed to take to the enclosure right away - I've got a redfoot tortoise and I love to watch him cruise along like that. :)
So glad he has such a great place to live out his years. I was thinking Bumpy or Lumpy might be a cute name. Obviously, I've never been very good with names LOL 🐢💖
KENAN i love ya bud and wish I had this lifestyle........I’m in CA and it gets too cold in my town through winter. Thanks for your rescues. A house with this much property in my town would cost over 400k
I’m very happy you took that rescue. I have several box turtles. I have such a hard time with their diet. All they want are worms I give greens, veggies small amounts of fruit but never see them eat. My first two have shell deformities. I keep them outside and planted vegetation all around them. I think you should name it Boney
