I always enjoyed using a Chadwick and a strobe light to balance props, we always did it at night time when it's cool outside and the results were always noticeable

I love epoxy floors! I learned a long time ago to NOT do the flake. It hides small parts that get dropped. Light gray, no flake is perfect!

I love my epoxy floor and love the way it looks. But when I drop a screw I sure wish it was solid grey!

So I learned a trick, a long time ago, when I dropped anything on the hangar floor. Take a flashlight with good batteries, and hold it just above to floor, aimed slightly down from parallel to the floor. Anything caught in the beam will not only be illuminated, but casts one hell of a shadow; works every time. I owned a '66 -88 presurized Queen Air. Had IGSO-540s. Great ride, but did it ever suck up the fuel. Had a Cessna 401 at the same time; far better fuel efficiency and speed. Guess which one I flew the most ? One other thing, don't rely on the mags being off, or the "P" leads to be unbroken. When you move a prop to reposition it, rotate it backwards. Got that one from my primary instructor in 1966; a WW2 TBM pilot. Your QueenAir looks like it's been reengined; what's under the cowlings ?

IO-720

I'll have to try that trick. I used to fly jumpers in a pressurised Queen Air with those engines. My plane has the Excalibur conversion with 400hp Io-720's on it. WAY better engine but she still burns ALL the gas!

My thoughts exactly regarding the floor. A friend of mine that was an aviation mechanic in the US Air Force said that their hangar floors were white for those same reasons.

I almost feel like putting down a tarp when I work on the plane. That damn floor can hide anything!

Hey Kerry, that totally sucks! I see you are heading to Minnesota for the avionics at Anoka, do you need a ride home? I was planning on heading over to Baldwin anyway. Good video, I am glad we were helicopter mechanics for the Army when we were 19 years old, it all comes back now that we have our own Army aircraft. When you come over, I will show you my 1946 " L-3G Grasshopper", my new army plane! See ya soon buddy!

An alcohol line is the reason that caused problems - well, if you ask a police officer, he will confirm that for sure from his daily business. 😛
@KerryDMcCauley

Isn't alcohol usually the problem?
@Akaflieger
@Akaflieger 7 дней назад
@@KerryDMcCauley Depends. If it's a philosophical question, then depending on the situation, too little or no alcohol could be the problem. 🤣

Kerry, my Queen Air solves the problem you’re having with the alcohol tubes by using zip ties. I’ll get a picture.

So was it a wonderful flight or did a weird vibration show up that made you nervous and you didn't like it? Those seem like contradictory statements to me.
@KerryDMcCauley
@KerryDMcCauley 6 дней назад
Both. I love being nervous.

Is the alcohol prop system an anti-ice type that needs to be running before the ice builds up?
@KerryDMcCauley
@KerryDMcCauley 8 дней назад
That's best but not 100% necessarily.
@bartofilms
@bartofilms 8 дней назад
Maybe by now, a newer gen. Radar might be available used at a fair price? How about converting your anti-Ice from Alcohol to a newer Glycol system?
@KerryDMcCauley
@KerryDMcCauley 8 дней назад
I'll find out about putting on a new system soon. Not necessarily. That alcohol works fine and Glycol is expensive.

doesn't the alcohol eat the rubber boots? I thought alcohol and rubber did not get along?
@KerryDMcCauley

Possibly, but I"ve never heard of it happening. The boots do have a protective coating on them plus wax.
