Pulled this N64 with no audio/video signal and no controller ports from my trash bin to see if I could give it a second life. Links- PunkNDisorderlyGamer RU-vid Channel: / punkndisorderlygamer Check him out!
I have a no audio no video problem with my n64 too. I’ve been trying to fix it for about 2 months now. I took it apart at least 5 times and cleaned all the contacts. I have a cheap soldering iron but because i am a beginner I’m afraid I’ll trash the board but a part of me doesn’t wanna give up.
4:19 people usually think those pads of the rambus(rams) affect some and when you look the scheme those just only keep the ram down nothing else for better result i recommend you grab an capa check or capacimeter and read those capacitors levels you will avoid future freeze to test if that gonna happen use Mario 64 level dire dire docks if the 64 freeze maybe you could recap the entire board including the audio and video part ...
those two pins should work as 4 separate pins or work in pairs? My n64 has the same chip up on the same side... fixed them but still no vpost... arghh... ty 4 the vid dude!!
Great video Jay, i got a couple of N64 motherboards that are no signaling on me i may try to revisit them. Since I don't have any spare shells for them I'm not gonna bother with them anytime soon. Edit: Thanks for the shout out much love. Also, if I’m not mistaking the 4 legs on the one side of the ram are all ground and all in continuity with each other. Edit 2: I’m watching the video as I’m posting, at 31:10 what a great joint no copper from the wire exposed or melted away. What brand/kind of wire is that? Edit 3: the board you took the controller ports off of has 1 8mb ram chip that could probably be popped off and used to replace a bad expansion pack ram chip if you ever come across an expansion pack that doesn’t work.
What's up! Thanks for watching. Edit: Not sure, I didn't test. As I was going back through the video and looking at how much junk was in the cart connector, it may very well have been that was the issue. I had just come off fixing two other boards that had corrosion around the chips and dusty cart connectors so I really don't know. Edit 2: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K45VZWL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s03?ie=UTF8&th=1 One roll will probably last you forever. This stuff is great! Edit 3: Really? I never would have thought to do so. Thanks!
Wil's VG Addiction thanks I just ordered that enameled wire. Enameled wire doesn’t short correct? Also you don’t have to strip it with a wire strippers? I’d imagine 38 gauge wire to be extremely difficult to even try to strip.
