It's strategic. Roger is a sure win player and so is Rafa in singles. Not wise to put two of your best resources into one match because that will just equate to one win. Besides, you don't need to win every match with this setup. All you have to do is just win the majority.

beno jojo Nadal has a great net game, but a majority of his success comes from out rallying his opponents and hitting great shots on the dead run. You just don't get to do that in doubles. Points are short and snappy and there is no time to prepare a powerful groundstroke most of the time.

yeah double players fatigued easily when playing singles but singles player like nadal would struggle with limited spaces and lack of strategy in doubles.

Nadal won a gold medal in the Olympics in doubles as well as singles. He's a great doubles player, it was pushed to a 3rd set super tie breaker, and those are sometimes decided by 1 or 2 points.

You know what's even better? Vasek and Jack did not really form their doubles team until a few weeks before Wimbledon.

I believe it is generally accepted that he is one of the best few doubles players in the world. Without looking it up, I am pretty sure he has advanced late(quarters+) into grand slams and/or masters 1000s with at least 5 different partners. I am not sure what happened with Vasek/Sock, but he is an amazing doubles player as well. They were a lot of fun to watch for their short run together.
