They really need to offer thick glass tops to these amps, they are so beautiful inside it deserves to be seen, just like a glass caseback on a fine watch!

Mr Fremer, first let me say "I've been under a rock. I watch several people on RU-vid and thought they were very good at vinyl talk and systems, I was wrong. You are the man, number 1 at what you do. Been collecting records 40 years strictly RnB, soul and doo Woop. Would like to see what you have to offer in 50s -80s RnB/soul vinyl. Thank you.

Nagra devices are machines for a lifetime. The design is timeless such is the quality. I loved the scene of the stress test on the dials by the firmware programmer. It demonstrates the passion of the company and all of its employees.

Congratulations Michael, back with TAS. I did not see a whisper of this in Stereophile, either in print or online.

It was at the last Stereophile show, in 1995, at the Weston hotel at LAX, where an exhibit by Nagra changed my listening life forever. There was a short line to get into the room every 15 minutes or so, so I waited, just out of curiosity. Shortly, 8 of us were seated in front of a full Cello system, with a large Nagra digital tape machine. They started the demo playing at 24bit 192k, a string quartet they recorded in Switzerland. They they switched the digital to 2496, and you could hear just the slightest difference, but the music was still perfect. Then they switched to redbook CD, 4416, and the entire 8 of us let out a loud sigh of surprise, together. They repeated the demo one more time, and that was the end for the CD format for me. When I left, the line outside went down the hall to the elevator. Nagra are THE company in audio. Period.

If you love precision engineered things…than you already know NAGRA. Their “machines” are works of art (….and priced accordingly…).

Draw a circle of 80 km around Lausanne, many great brands: Nagra, Dartzeel (Geneva), Rowen (Düdingen, Yverdon-les-Bains) and more. Of which Rowen is probably most affordable. Switzerland has so many audio brands to offer. It’s fun looking at all of them. Boenicke in Basel is another brand.

@ 1:33 the wind noise your camera picked up was the A/C unit to the right of the Nagra open reel machine. We can certainly hear it running so it must've been blowing hard for your mic to pick up that draft as "wind noise". Please note the effect stops as you start walking away from the A/C conditioner. The vents were pointing directly at your video camera or GoPro or whatever you were using. Cheers mate!

I love my IV-S and my T-Audio, and it is time for Nagra to reintroduce an analogue tape recorder, this time for audiophiles. All the parts are already there, it can be a scaled down T-Audio without the time code and the editing functions. It should also have a head out connection that allows the use of an external tape head preamp, perhaps a special HD phono as shown in the video with additional tape curves. They should note that their old competitor, Stellavox, has reintroduced the TD-9 recorder. With an established fan base of audiophiles and the existing designs for tape recorders, it is logical for Nagra to do this. And they might be surprised to find that many mastering studios will become customers too, as their Studers and Ampexes are getting long in the tooth.

I loeSwitzerland, my home now. but the future of great engineering companies like Nagra, will depend on it catering for more than .01% f audio enthusiasts. they know their business, it is the world that may change, as the 2006-8 great financial crisis may return. the rececent USA bank failures, being only the opening coda. very esirable equipment - good to see craftsmanship, its professinal side should be ok.Wavac, next, please, Michael :)
