I am Mexican and I would love to learn Nahuatl! It is such a shame that our native languages are being lost :( Not only nahuatl, but all the other languages of Mexico, that will soon disappear. Discriminating against them is stupid, aren't we all descendants of natives? They are much more Mexican than the rest of us!
@pa7832

Sadly, eventually all the languages in the world will be lost because in the modern day, everyone in the world is encouraged to Westernize and learn English as well as abandon their countries to migrate to English-speaking countries. Basically this is a modern form of imperialism.

+Mark Villanueva. Filipinos did not have "to fight" to keep their language. The Spaniards themselves studied and wrote so many books about the Philippine languages, which you can see in "Did Filipinos Speak Spanish? YES!" and they promoted its use among Spaniards living in the islands. The Spaniards even studied and learned the Tagalog alphabet, which you can see in that video. The Spanish never surpressed the native languages of your people. Even if they wanted to, it would have been impossible since the Spaniards were completely outnumbered by the Filipinos. 1000 to 2000 Spanish friars vs approximately 7 million Filipinos in 1898....think about it...
@Ahmed-ob6ec

If you weren't a team player, you died. It's not just the value of a better life (which is really true, I don't disagree with that), I also think that the idealistic image of a prosperous asian citizen is one that is hammered into every aspect of society. Phillipinos speak Spanish but are Asian. Mexicans speak spanish but are Hispanic...doesn't make sense. pretty soon English will dominate mexico. and Spanish will be an old language to be ashamed of. To get a job in mexico you must learn english because of american and British investors. If it took 100 years for mexicans to abonden Nahuatl for Spanish. Plz mexicans. Its is not to late to bring Nahuatl. Learning a new lanuage is much easier . If your going to make your kids bi lingual. make it English and Nahuatl and some spanish. Its not to late. because if Mexicans went from speaking Nahuatl for 1000 years.then switched it up to spanish for 100 years... whats from stopping mexicans from learning Nahuatl again within two generations. A generation that will grow and become proud of his/her heritage like the Chinese and Japanese ....who aren't all AGACHADOS .

***** to say that catalan and castillano spanish are the same is ridicolous...they might as well be two seperate languages...go listen to a catalonean speak it sounds nothing like castillan. I knew phillipines who spoke spanish in cali and had last names like Cortez, Hernandez etc.

***** please read my comment more thorougly.. Mexico is tuaght that ALL of SPAIn conqured ALL OF MEXICO. When in fact it was just castillanos...who conqured only distrito federal. Yet catolona had nothing to do with mexican conquest.. While it wasn't until the late 1700s until Mexico (joint venture of new spain and tlaxcala)took over the chichamecas,apaches.and some mayas.. They had bases there through missions..and the jesuits. IM JUST SAYIng ther is no other culture that this has really happend to . The cantonese and hindus were taken over by the british..and some speak nglish and a some interacialed...but yet their ties to CHINA and INDIA is still strong. The hawains who were much smaller... still have strong ties. So why are MEXICANS brainwashed into thinking SPANISH is their language. Mexican history doesn't begin at 1510. It much deeper than that. and Mediums like TELEVISA promote thse false lies that when cortez arrived the natives thought he was a god...because they were taller..when in fact the average height of ppl even in europe were 5'6 . Were taugh that we are all MESTIZO. When in fact there were several villages that never got conqured by spain. Spain might have sent maps back to europe saying that they owned huge lands...but in reality and even ITALIAN authors were saying Spain was lust lying. BLACK Legend. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Legend it was all a fallacy for political gain. Our entire history...everything you were brought up to learn was tampered with. There is a much deeper complex history to MEXICAN COLONIALISM than just conquest. its sad and emberassing that it had to be our culture who got dumbed down and accepted to be a victim of rape... you mush keep the languages of nahautl alive... to preserve that spirit. that the chinese and hindus still have... why would you think mexico 'conquest' was justified by modern mexico..when modern mexico is the most corrupt and filthy piece of land it is today... Mexico should be a first world power 2nd to the US...with its resources...alone. but why? because TELEVISA and these mediums kill our spirit by making us feel inferior at birth with lies,lies lies...Please for the sake of those who parished and for your ancestors..don't let that spirt die... We will look back at history and read mexicans as just a minor footnoote to history. as mexico will most likely become annexed by the US.

***** history that doesn't exist? so your going to believe the account of hernan cortez and disregard the other accounts? My English isn't bad at all. Its in California and TX tone...so its not going to be the UK english you were taught in mexico. that would be like me bashing a mexican for his hybrid spanish, because i was taught the castillan spanish in the US. VOS VOSOTROS...blah blah. Where is your broke ass from Cacatecas...

go noize2040!! a own language, names and surnames enforce the identity, like the germans sweden, korea japan, vietnam, and it brings the people more toghether, united between poor and rich. It hasnt benefit mexico elsalvador guatemala at all to be speaking a worldwide language.

those countries are fuckt up, mexico is better of because of the oil but still fuckt up, poberty and iliteracy and so on like many countries in latin america, but I mentioned those countries because it is were the majority has nativeblood and can still get their identity back if they put their mind to it. I live in sweden, only 9 million people speak the swedish language still one of the richest countries on earth, because they have a strong identity, much more united, they put the interest of the group infront of the individual. not because they are superior or any shit they teach in latin america it s because they function better of as a team and that is what u get by having a own language, names and culture.

I notice some Spanish words in their grammar, like escuela. That is understandable, since languages evolve when they come in contact with other languages. Alotta political words and words ending with -tion in English are French words.

+Mr. Allmighty Cornholio They only have these words in what they are saying because they are borrowing it from spanish. Caltlamchtiloyan is the word for school is Nahuatl.. its just some people borrow more than others when they speak because they are usually bilingual
@Ahmed-ob6ec

@@paquiliztli It's because these languages aren't taught in schools, speakers end up becoming more dominant in Spanish and use Spanish words as filler words while speaking their indigenous languages. Over time these communities will be entirely Spanish speaking. One of the first signs of language death if you ask me.

While knowing native languages is important for cultural reasons. Spanish is so much better for the natives to use for all practical reasons. I would even go as far as to say everyone should learn English. A child speaking Nahuatl can't accomplish much in life, he won't even be able to read any modern books! If the same kid knew English as well he would have the majority of the worlds knowledge in an accessible form. I mourn the loss of languages but cheer for a more educated, equal populace.

You realize that the vast majority of the world studies their own language as well as English right? Go to countries like Latvia, Estonia, etc. The languages in those countries are not spoken anywhere else, yet the students still learn them in schools for cultural reasons. They learn English as well to communicate with the rest of the world. Now compare this to Mexico. Indigenous children are forced to attend school in Spanish and learn only Spanish at school. They do not study their own languages. More emphasis is placed on learning Spanish than English despite English being of greater value internationally.

Wow. You really didn't think about it at all did you. French is: The Language that the Olympics operate in The language that every document in the U.N. is written in The 5th most spoken language in the world The romance language with the least false cognates It's way better for more than Canada. It's easy to learn, (maybe not as Esperanto) but for languages that have the most describing words. French is it.

They are seen less of a threat to white society and thus do not get beat up at school which is why they are so Rich and Smart these days while Native Americans/Middle Easterners get a lot of racism even the ones that try to "westernise" like these guys in this Video.

I don't think it's that black and white though. He does kind of have a point, business and politics all are conversed in either French or English. If you go to a foreign country, the second language on the sign is English. However, for technical reasons, I think french is more practical, in the sense that it is very clear about gender, tense, and it does not have any abnormal, acquired sounds, like the rolling r in spanish.
