I have been watching y’all’s videos for years now and this is by far the best video y’all have ever done. This was truly awesome and very Top Gearesque! Well done!!!!!
Hey guys! Great to see you on the trail that day! I’m the other LR3 camping at 9:17 up at 11,700 feet. What a wonderful trail and the views! Glad to see our 10 min talk with Tommy didn’t cost the race! Blessings and hope to see you guys again soon!
The Fast Lane Car - I hope people are complimenting you on the drone shots. They are really well executed and well cut into the footage. Your production quality and content of these videos is really top tier. I don’t even care if the race was staged at points - a’la Top Gear “races” of years past. The entertainment factor is quite high and enjoyed by many, me included. Thanks, again.
@@jonb2139 I bet! They make it so easy, such as finding this Touareg, finding that Land Rover for 5,500, or finding that awesome disco they had with all the mods for 5K. I was just looking at my area, I found a salvage title stock disco2 for 5500, LOL.
Two of the meanest offroad rigs, editing and production quality that's second to none and a father-son duo racing up a mountain. This is quarantine living done right. Thanks for the content TFL!!!
Got to love the sound of Touaregs....when I rev the engine on mine it confuses people because they can’t believe that’s the sound coming out of the mommy wagon
Own both 2005 lr3 hse locking rear differential, and 2006 touareg 4.2 standard suspension, center lock differential, 40 mm lift 275 65 18 cooper discoverer II on both. Touareg handles better ,discovery III offroads better. More room for camping no need for tent on top. Sleep inside comfortably. Dual sunroof. Way faster up the mountain in the touareg. Apples and oranges. My license plate bracket says. " another jeep how ordinary " lr3 says " another jeep how common " paid 12k for both stock condition. Pick a part wrecking is my savior for used parts. Here in Southern California lots of discarded luxury suvs.
Touraeg's were actually fairly reliable aside from the V10 TDI's lack of serviceability. Being a jointly developed platform with the Porsche Cayenne they were really overbuilt. I worked at an independent VW/Audi specialty shop for 12 years and the most we ever really did on these were control arm replacements, brakes and timing belts. The V8's were solid, the VR6's had breather issues but those were fairly easy jobs, but the V10's were just prone to leaks and since they basically shoehorned them in there you had to drop the whole drivetrain out of the body to service most things. However having a twin turbo V10 diesel in a midsize SUV was a lot of fun. Just my $.02! Loved the video, you guys have the best variety out of any other car channel on here. Keep up the good work!

Really made feel like it was one of the better top gear or grand tour episodes. Great guys, all ya need now is James may to tell you you're both silly as he Flys in on an ultralight
Drove my old Chevy K5 Blazer up there around 1989. Broke a shock off the frame. Stalled at one point, and had to use a can of WD40 to get started again. You could see the old wrecks in the valley below. Super sketchy, and it was late summer and about to snow and shut the trail down for the winter. I was just thankful to get out of there...Biked and skied up there on occasion too. My buddy Dean Cummings actually lived up there in an abandoned miners shack for a while.... Lent him my snowmobile to get up there.
I’d love to see a behind the scenes video on the camera crew running all over the next place to get them shots! They must be in n shape!! Or dead now....
Tommy, you missed a beautiful opportunity to do the Kelly’s Hero’s Odd Ball character sitting in a folding chair next a small table with cheese and wine, enjoying your victory over the old man!!
Great video. A father and son enjoying a good natured competition in a heck of a slice of nature. About four months a year I wished I lived in Colorado. My uncle used to live in Denver when I was a kid and we made it out once to visit him before he passed. Last year I made a return trip as an adult and got to explore a much larger swath of the state. I tell people just go. Stay for a few weeks if at all possible. The scenery can not be captured on camera no matter how high definition it may be. The scale and the vistas are epic. At least in the mountains and the small towns. The cities, well, they're cities. Nothing special there except they have views of the mountains!
This was one of the BEST videos on racing I have seen yet! Father and son racing against each other in older, high quality/high priced vehicles....How about trying it in some old Jeeps...only problem, you would never find them that cheap...It was a close race! I like to see the bantering and interaction between father and son...just how things ought to be!
I thought he was gonna say "I am not gonna be beat by a crusty old man", lol. I love this father/son team. Wonderful, imaginative videos that aren't run of the mill. Keep up the great work TFL (love all the reviewers).
I know for a fact that Disco 3 will smash the Vw Tuareg at off-road capabilities. This was just unfortunate for the Disco. All in all a very nice video guys and I’m glad you’re proofing that you don’t need a masive budget to have fun. Good luck!!!
Holy production value Batman. That has to be one of the best films you guys have ever done. If it wasn't Tommy, and Roman, you wouldn't know it wasn't Top Gear.
Nice! I did this just last week in my 2000 Grand Cherokee, completely stock, after learning about the Saints John road from you guys in an earlier video. A few unavoidable bottom scrapes, but nothing major enough to worry about. Fun road!
I’m envious of the father son relationship here. The fact that you guys get to work and play together is so freakin cool. Thanks for another great video guys
EPIC video today, incredible scenery in that area. Tommy, I absolutely love the plaid shirt you wore in this episode. I drive a VW, and I have to say I was happy that you won Tommy 🙂.
Hey! Great! I have lunchtime at work and exactly at that moment the Video here pops up! Thank you! - The Service couldn`t be better when I would have paid for it.
I've owned two Land Rovers (LR3 and LR4) covering thousands of miles on and off-road, and never had an issue with either. Apart from the tailgate latch, on the LR3, which broke and was replaced under warranty.
Really well done! It's amazing the level of production and entertainment a father and son with probably couple of camera guys can do. Good job! Cheers.
I like the premise of these videos. You don't need King coilovers and a 60k new rig to have fun off-roading. A cheap, stock 4wd will handle what 90% of us would do off-road.
Since they use the Disco as the camera vehicle most of the time, is the chase car Andre's Outback? The torch is passed to the next generation! Great video.
Whew, thanks for a great trip down (?up) memory lane, including the scary parts. Have been on those trails many times in LR's. Sorry the mountain goats weren't there to greet you!
