This road has been “being built” for the last 10 to 15 years. Until it is actually completed, whatever is signed does not mean anything. If it was a Chinese project, it would have been completed a long time ago. Americans are slow in doing things unless it has something to do with military activities. Previous heads of state have negotiated for this project and nothing came of it.
Every year it is not built cost us $1B in inefficiency. They dug up the road and left it in limbo for 7 years. The extra amount of time, shock absorbers, bushes and fuel I used during those years is north of a million estimated. It killed a part of me.
@@Pmooli why not look for other financiers or investors instead of being taken for a ride by muricans? We can actually build it with our money bit by bit, look the amount of money we allocate Kenha, KURA and Kerra and you will find its possible to construct it with our own resources staggered over several years.
@@mwaurakinyanjui-tf4mx the project was actually announced before thika road. When Obama visited he was like you cant give china all the projects. So we gave it to Betchel. They complained about some of the sub contractors chosen for the road that were blacklisted. In all fairness all infrastructure projects are conduits for corruption on a biblical scale.
Call me persimistic but I don't think this project will materialize under America. US have NEVER demonstrated the interest to develop infrastructure for third world countries. Their current foreign policy won't let this happen. Am willing to bet on this. Either another Non Western contractor will make this materialize or it will stall and by 2030 it will be the same old paperwork pr with nothing to show. I would advise Kenyans to keep their hopes down with this one. Am more optimistic about the naivasha sgr to Kampala by Chinese though
A colonizer never develops a colony except for extraction of natural resources. Nairobi was built by elephant tusks and safari hunting. It was not built by farming or white Highlands. Either the story about cobalt deposits is true or some rare earths. Otherwise the US will never fund the road except for extraction of raw materials.
Their African policy, especially the NSSM200 by Kissinger, based on depopulation, the acquisition of minerals for a pittance and military domination surely won't let much happen, IF this one does. Not pessimistic but realistic. 1 ❤️
Funny thing is people are fighting for a position to go to Haiti...For some of them they have never seen such a compensation with their meagre police salary
Before cheering, lets remind ourselves that we are dealing with Americans, we might have been taken into a circus, America is not China, China got Exim Bank that gives money to its construction firms, American government has nothing like that, contractors have to look for private capital which may be slow and expensive to come by.
You should def word your sentences properly. Let me remind you that when you are "dealing with Americans", you are also dealing with Kenyan Americans too. Please say the US govt and stop lumping us like this.

@@newtonmuteait's just friendly competition bro,I love Tanzanians they keep us on our toes nd Vice versa too..I'm Kenyan but I'll have to agree with him..what happened to Railway City,Brt project, Nairobi mau summit highway,? Konza is also growing very slow. Tanzania might have fewer projects than us but the ones the have have been completed with good success..like their brt system nd Electric rail projects.
They will use that deal to blackmail other things that Kenyia will find itself in a crusade to acomplish! That's the american culture and their modus operandi. Example: Ukraine.
THIS is a PPP project. The investors will recoup their money by tolling the road users for a period of 30yrs. Kyle Carter is the current chairman of Everstrong equity and immediate fomer US ambassador to Kenya. Thanks D254 for highlighting this and the indepth analysis of the project.
Yah soldiering on as US puppets, right now Africa and the rest of the world are trying to free ourselves from US hegemony and policies that maintain poverty for countries that they need to exploit, countries like Kenya. They will build a road especially those that lead to their military bases.
I am a frequent traveller along this routes and it would be very interesting to drive along this express way. When it comes to infrastructure updates, nobody beats our Otede girl-D254 😂😂😂
Thank you for covering this story. I am a African American living in the U.S. planning to move to Kenya. I tried following President Ruto’s US trip but didn’t hear about this major infrastructure project. Do you know the proposed timeline and what percentage of Kenyans will be employed by this project?
that does not excuse him from being a Western puppet--we need Pan Africanist leaders, anything ess, is less--the Africans owe it to themselves to vote pan Africanist or see, they have settled for less
It's not Ruto's project. Just a continuation of development. This project was inked by kibaki for vision 2030. This road was supposed to be built together with sgr
I'm just wondering which road should be prioritized more waiyaki way upto nakuru bearing in mind the SGR to mombasa is offering transportation, unlike waiyaki way which is used by many counties all the way to Uganda.
Agree with you here bro, what happened to the Nairobi Mau Summit dual carriage way please, the many fatal accidents being witnessed on this strech almost on a daily basis is due to the increase in traffic and the two way system on this busy road.
Project was right on course,I'm sure if uhuru angekuwa president by now project ingekuwa imeanza...AFDB Had already allocated 70 billion for the road.then the Kalenjingas came in nd to nobody's surprise nothing much is happening in regards to road infrastructure..
@@christineopiyo7769 let's think of the lives we are loosing on this two lane highway from Nairobi to Kisumu and Malaba vehicles on this road have almost tripled over the years while the road has remaind the same.
Forget about this project and Railway City, signing a contract was a mistake because Kenya can not be able to give it to anyone else and the project will no take off. The first contract was signed during President Uhuru's first term when the cost was lower, its been 10 years nothing has been done. Kenya has also given the Railways City project to UK. We all know that if you want your project to take off you will have to work with Asia.
Kenya does not need a white elephant express way to nowhere. What Kenyans need is to get the SGR completed to Kampala, that should be the priority for Ruto, and by the way I guarantee you that with the Americans poor record of funding infrastructure in foreign countries, that is nothing but hot air 🔥. Any good luck with your expectations
I thought the Koreans were going to build it after Bechtel pulled out of the deal. There are no Kenyans who can build this high-quality highway? That says a lot about the university curriculum in Kenya not up to international standards!
It was last year that you said the Korean company called KIND had done feasibility and the construction was about to start..please correct me if am wrong
Virtually most consumer goods in the world today are made in China by virtue of their low prices. If China is demanded to fast track in building of any project, time and savings are always immense.
You should have asked the Chinese. This road will take 20 years to build and it will cost $50 billion LOL. Wrong Country to build anything, they charge 5 times the necessary cost.
American's have money yes but they are too slow with development. Contract should have been given to Japan, S.Korea or Turkey, they engineering is of high standards and build quite fast. China no, they build fast but quite substandard
@@ntokozolugogo4762 These aren't government investments, its private companies investing with the U.S government acting as a middleman. That debt you are quoting is public debt held by U.S citizens to themselves. American corporations are flush with money. Google and learn the difference before parroting Chinese propaganda.
@@ntokozolugogo4762 $4Billion USD is nothing to America so no, they will not print money for it. The money is already readily available. Just like Ksh100 million is nothing to Kenya, we can easily afford Ksh 100 million as a country. If it was hundreds of billions of USD then maybe they can print
@@eldios831 with geopolitics maybe they will be forced to deliver coz china is in the picture but with geopolitics and china or Russia is not in the picture, America will still not deliver. The catch is Kenya have sold some parts of Northern Kenya to US. A us territory in kenya where if a kenyan is seen there will be shot on the spot. They are building military base there as well...yani Kenya imeuzwa in short
If it was Chinese i would have believed cause they deliver what they promise. Under US 😂😂😂😂 let me laugh! Wait for anti- corruption commission to be set up . 😂😂
Did you actually watch the video? This is an investment through the public (taxpayers) and private companies. It's a loan that gets paid back through tolls. Please google how that works, ignorance is not bliss. People like you praise the Chinese for the SGR yet here is Kenya imposing austerity on its people to pay for that 6billion dollar external debt owed to China.
I prefer CHINESE would have been given this road construction work,,,, Chinese have demonstrated their abilities when it comes to road construction for many decades
