UPDATE: Hello Everyone.. I am now in the middle off testing another quad and powering the naked GoPro differently. My friend didn't care for the Ummagawd kit and we have switched back to the Betafpv way. I'm powering from the balance lead with a bec-on-bec hack. I will release a video soon of my findings.

Thank you a lot for this video. Betaflight V2 kit for Gopro7 does not work. I am far away from electronic but your video helped a lot. I connected cables like you sad and to kit's plug. And for sure BEC is important because FC give 4,62V its not enough. Thank you a lot!

excellent video, congratulations, my gopro 6 naked has bec betafpv, when I connect the battery the gopro led is fixed and I can't do anything, there is a solution to my problem, I read that I entered dfu mode. thank you very much for your help

Are you good now? RU-vid completely missed your comment notification to me...🙄 Also, I tested connecting directly to the NamelessRC BEC and had the same issue. That's the biggest reason for the Matek BEC between the Lipo voltage and the BEC (Betafpv in your case)..

i have a probem with my hero 7 and this beta fpv BEC. Now it only works with battery on. I saw some tutorial to simulate battery have you tried that?

my gopro 6 naked stays with the fixed red led, it doesn't respond, I read that I enter dfu mode and I can't find a way to get it out of that mode

I'm not familiar with the DFU mode on the Gopro. I only have read of a factory reset. Maybe that would help? Apologies, I do not have the knowledge about the Gopro to help remedy your conundrum.

if i wanted to be lazy could i not remove the usbc connection for powering it to my balance lead then cut the bec like you did to use the buttons

I'm testing another quad now. I will have to get testing finished and get results out. I'll just say, my friend didn't like the Ummagawd setup and we have modified another quad. And yes you could. I was stripping as much weight as possible - that was my primary focus.

How do you power the go pro when flying? Do you have a different connector soldered onto the bec?

Here the GoPro is powered from the lipo. The Matek BEC is getting power directly off the power leads from the ESC beside the main power lead. We abandoned this idea because it was impossible to move the GoPro from one quad to another. The end of a receiver antenna works. You can use a fine strand wire too - just cut it to 32.8mm

If you have something that will output a clean 4.2 volts and at least 1 amp, you should be fine to power it up.. I was thinking of doing an amp draw test of just the Naked Gopro. I just may do that.. I was looking for the range specs - maybe someone will share an actual schematic of the Hero6... Ain't holding my breath though, lol...

@@airfilm_it Yes. That capacitor is in the direct circuit with the input of the 5 volts that would come from the USB-c input.

I broke that capacitor, and now the camera turns on only if i power it from the battery, any suggestions?

I'm not sure what size that capacitor is, I'll want to find out. Well, you could either solder in a new non-polar ceramic capacitor as the one you broke (which takes some skill). Or, fine the direction of the 5v path and the size of the capacitor and then solder a Tantalum capacitor in line with a jumper.. I have searched and searched for an underground copy of the schematic of the Gopro 6 black and had no luck.. I only fine simple layouts that are easily discoverable with a volt meter.. That sucks that happened to you, I've done stuff like that too. Always frustrating!

@@airfilm_it That capacitor is in direct path (undetectable resistance) of the the 5v rail from the USB, therefore, I would say that broke capacitor is the issue.

Do you recommend to install the Betafpv BEC as it is first and when everything is fine - keep it that way? Can it do serious damage to the gopro or just kill the connector? (Which then could be solved the way you did it?)

I can't recommend any of the aftermarket BECs that are supposed to make this mod easy. None of them worked intuitively for me. The idea that a quad this small can effectively haul around a GoPro is too tempting and had to be done. I could not get things to work and at times the temperature of the Gopro would be ridiculously hot. That's why I modded it the way I did.. I spent too much time messing with this project and if this video was available for me, I would have been done many hours sooner..

@@propsoff thx man! I guess I'll go with a solution via Lipo -> Matek BEC -> USB-C male connector. Kind of non-invasive as I don't feel confident enough to solder to the capacitor.

I'm hopeful you have a good result as I did. Some people have said they have had no issues with the aftermarket BEC.. I could not get them to work intuitively and this is what I ended up doing. Caution soldering on that capacitor, had a few people lift it. Let me know.. Enjoy the Breeze...👍🏻🍻👊🏻

@@Trod_2704 I very quickly added a small drop of leaded solder at 220°C.. Then flowed a 30awg pre-tined wire to that dab..

hi! I tried your method, but I was not able to make a reliable connection to the betafpv board through the ceramic filter. However, could I not connect 5V power and ground to the cut off ground and power pads of the betafpv board?

The cut portion of the Betafpv BEC has NO 5 volts in.. The pads to the right are for Record, Ground, and Mode... Not 5v. I am testing a new way to do it now, and should conclude next week my findings..

@@propsoff Great. My naked go pro only wanted to power on with auto power hack. However, I did everything like u did, and I cannot connect the BLE or go pro app. Also only can record when I press the power button when I plug in. Weird stuff. Hopefully I can figure it out next week. Hope your new method bring peace of mind :) .

So far so good. The sad thing about electronics is they should all work or not work. Not sure why all the issues. I have a 3rd Betafpv BEC in use now and running off a balance lead power hack. So much better..

I am still undecided whether or not to do it to my gp 7 because of the problems mentioned in the facebook group ,,, but nobody has said that something bad happened to them doing it this way, only one person who burned the small capacitor from where he (as you did) take the 5V. So far so good, however, haven't had many packs through it. After following that FB group, seems like lots of people are burning up thier Gopros. Some are now saying it worked fine for a while and then burned up. Not grounded property? Not sure but that's my opinion. The plan is to do 2 more.. lol, so we'll see. The way I did it, seemed to be the most intuitive. The 5v supply from the Matek BEC is going directly into the same components that the 5 volts would go from the USB C connector. Instead of feeding 5 volts in to where the battery would be feeding 4.2 or less volts. Also, the way I did it, gives a good strong ground to keep the thing from getting too hot. Time will tell. Due to the cost of this project, it aint for everyone.

how do I check if the ribbon connector is damaged? my beta 1.1 bec won't power the gopro but it powers fine from screen battery so probs is damaged as 5v is getting supplied to the connector on the 1.1 board connector.

@@eatmykwad Sorry to hear that. I was doing all this for a friend and was so careful because I had no means to replace it if I screwed it up. I have a video before this one were I did a mod straight to a cap on the back - Ummaguad style. That may help...🤷🏻‍♂️ I'm having a hard time remembering exactly if that bypasses the 5 volt regulator (you may have fried).

Any tips for soldering on to the capacitor? Metal contact area seems tiny

It's not simple.. I do have lots of experience. However, if you run a clean tip at 220°C and just place a solder ball on the top edge, then place a 30awg pre-tinned wire over that and gently push them together very quickly and precisely, you'll be one step closer.. If you sit on the capacitor too long, your going to have a major headache..

@@joselouzada838 I had to reconnect everything and change the led notification and connect the cell phone with password. Then remove the part again and all was on its way.. Last night had a Nano Nebula camera fail... So Aggregated! Had OSD but black screen in the goggles, swapped cameras out and all good.. The whole naked Pusher stuff is too delicate, lol... I want to smash into stuff, turtle mode and cartwheel across the ground at 99mph, then do it all again, lol...

hi Great video! Just wondering about how you installed the power and rec buttons. I saw your blog about this. However I don't understand the language. Which solder connections did you make? Only the orange wire? You cut that from the nameless rc pcb or from the betafpv pcb?

The piece was cut from the Betafpv BEC. I just mated the connector and had some "Gorilla Turf & Clear" under the piece to keep it there.

Yes, the orange wire is the only solder connection needed. When cutting the BEC, That button looses that leg - you have to jumper it for it to work again..

@@propsoff I see. But I can't imagine where to solder the buttons on or where connect the buttons to the main pcb, as there are no pads for buttons underneath where you put them.

@@propsoff yes, go pro hero 6 black naked + betafpv bec and namesless rc bec. But I want to power with your method via matek BEC. So the orange wire the the right leg of the right button is the onlly connection you need from the main pcb to the button section? I don't understand how that works, but ok.
