Today we setup and stocked the new Crayfish tank! I absolutely love our new addition and I’m super excited to watch him as he grows into maturity.

Hope you guys enjoyed today’s video! There’s a couple things I should’ve specified during the actual video, so I’ll put them here: The tank has a very tight fitting lid and I made sure to Crayfish-proof all openings. Inverts like crabs and crayfish a great at escaping, so this is a must if you’re going to set up a tank like this. They also require harder water, as it is better for their exoskeletons, and you can achieve this with crushed coral or just have naturally hard tapwater like I do.

Hi beautiful tank! I’m thinking of getting one with shrimp as well, but was wondering how the crayfish acts with them. will they be aggressive towards the shrimp? Thank you!

I just came across your channel through this video. I like how you do things professionally while also showing the whole process instead of skipping things on video like planting. Today I went and got my first Mexican dwarf crayfish along with 5 neon tetras and 2 amanos. I have lots of experience with shrimp but not crayfish so this is very exciting. I have two 2.6 gallon tanks that are cycled and I decided to stock one with a crayfish for a spotlight species. I'm only worried about it eating/wrecking plants like my delicate Monte Carlo. The video brought me a lot of reassurance though because I see a heavily planted 3-gallon tank with one of these crayfish so that's amazing!

Was looking for some different ideas for the scape in a 5.5 gallon with my Mexican dwarf. Have had no problems with him damaging plants but it is fine gravel and I'm thinking of switching to a sand substrate. Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

When I see beautiful aquascapes like yours, I always ask myself "how to do cleaning maintenance?" Do you ever vacuum the substrate? How to reach tight spots on the glass with a sponge? That's why I keep using gravel and try to keep the decoration simple.

a tank with a decent amount of plants doesn't really need a lot of cleaning I know a ton of people who just clean the front glass and leave the rest for shrimp or any other clean up crew to graze on u have to give plants a trim here and there obviously

Hey man, I speek from experience the crawfish ounce it reach its maximum leangh (1.6) inches, it will start eating all your thin leaf plants. but great aquarium! Add some white cloud mountain minnows in there for more movement they’ll also compliment the aquascape keep up the good work

Hey from personal experience you should have an lid on the tank becuase they can easily escape and dwarf crayfish need an high ph kh and that stuff whilst shrimp need it lower do i dont know how that works but amazing tank i have to say

Thanks! I probably should’ve specified in the video, but the tank is Crayfish-proofed, with a tight fitting lid and I added mesh over all the other openings that he could escape from. My tapwater here is extremely hard, so it will be good for his exoskeleton and the shrimp I added with bred locally in the same hard water, so they have no problems with it. Thanks for the advice!

I have Pygmy cories and chili rasboras and tangerine tiger shrimp, and fire red neos in my 29 gallon tall high tech planted fish tank, would having like 5 of these be ok? I don’t have a lid for this tank because of the e injected co2 and the planted tank l.e.d light that sits on top of it. Would they escape?

Crayfish and shrimp I am pretty sure they they don't use a lot of oxygen but It is always good to add a pump just to be safe!

How do you find the time to do water changes on all those tanks it is just a little hard for me because I’m in middle school and you are like 14?

I always do my water changes on Saturdays, and I recently got a python style water change system, and that makes things go a lot faster. I just take about three or four hours of my day and dedicate them to the tanks. Sometimes I’ll skip a week, and that’s really no problem with the way my tanks are set up, but I try and keep it consistent

Don't your crayfish eat the plants? My crayfish always end up uprooting and eating all the plants I put in their tank, even the frogbit! I always end up with bare hardscape
