In this video, I demo the Nanopresso NS adapter, which allows you to use any compatible Nespresso pod. I also show how to use the Nanopresso with a non-pressurised head for a smoother crema with fewer bubbles. NS Adapter Product Links:

Hi again Simon. I totally agree about your comments on the Handpresso. Mine is currently broken. Leaks water everywhere and less than 6 months old. Currently away being assessed by the distributor. Also it took a lot of trial and error to get the grind to get a decent extraction whereas the Nanopresso is much more forgiving and overall a much better experience. Coffee tastes better too. Love mine to bits and looking forward to the Barista kit and NS adaptor Ps love Baxter 😊 Happy Days George

GadgetViper, hello! Thank you for the review it was very helpful! If you still have and use your nanopresso kit, could you please tell us there that small silicone thing on in the end of the spring, the one you remove to use the nanopresso in the not-pressured mode? I’ve got my nanopresso and ns-adapter, today I decided to clean them and discovered that the nanopresso nozzle does include the silicone part on the end of the spring and the ns-adapter nozzle doesn’t. I couldn’t find any info if it’s ok or not. Your answer would be very helpful!

I have the entire Nanospresso kit, including the Nanotank (in fact two) - mostly for keeping milk warm - and a handheld milk frother, and absolutely love it all. I also have the Lume grinder (which crazily doubles as a torch) allowing one to go fully bean-to-cup while in the outdoors but, perhaps that level of complexity will only serve to distract from otherwise focusing on absorbing the magic of one's surroundings and the flavour in the cup. Your comments in this regard are probably the most profound I've yet to hear on any espresso channel and, in truth, that is the essence of what espresso brewing really should embody and yet is so often overlooked. Not too hip at all in my opinion!
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 4 года назад
Thank you, I considered the Lume, but I think I was put off by the James Hoffman review of it. I'm currently using the Crushgrind Columbia as my grinding option (I've made a video of it) although it's a manual grinder, it's exceptionally quick and the grind is extremely impressive. Thanks for watching, have a great day :)
@geo34south
@geo34south 4 года назад
GadgetViper After ordering the Lume but awaiting its delivery, I watched James’ review as well as read some negative reviews and was devastated. I even spoke to my local roastery although they assured me that, while there had been one or two cases where defects were experienced, they believed it to be an excellent product. Since I’ve received it, I haven’t had any problems and its grind quality is very consistent although, admittedly, it is slow. Still, given the price, it’s a reasonable compromise.

Schendy Erland Lie Thanks friend! I do love my coffee, it's probably why I'm such a fan of portable machines. If I can make an amazing coffee from a portable espresso machine, it means I can go anywhere and the quality comes with me. I visited an old friend this week and he asked if I'd like a coffee, I said 'sure' he went into the kitchen and made me an INSTANT coffee ...... I can't describe how bad it tasted! I drank it out of politeness, but wow, the difference between that and what I'm used to from the Nanopresso is huge. The next time I visit him, I'll take the Nanopresso with me ;)

These videos are brilliant. I have just watched part 1-3 back to back while drinking nespresso's as I'm about to go on a long motorcycle trip to Switzerland with mates. I want to invest in the NanoPresso and NS adapter but couldn't decide on the barista kit or not as not sure if its worth it - especially as it doesn't fit in the case which is a shame and space is limited. Your videos are so informative and fun to watch, its nice to see someone so passionate about a good cup of coffee. My wife loves watching Baxter as well :)
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 5 лет назад
Hi Jon, glad you liked the videos :) the standard case is actually a little longer than my one, which means a Nanopresso with the Barista Kit ring and the small water tank should fit, as will the NS adapter and small water tank. I always use the small water tank with the Barista kit basket (filled to the brim is the perfect amount for a double shot) the NS adapter is more convenient, but in my opinion, nothing beats a double shot of freshly ground coffee. Ps. I'll let Bax know he has a new fan ;) have a great day!

Once again great review Simon. My Nanopresso arrived this morning Wow I’m super impressed and so much better than my Handpresso which is currently broken and frankly a big disappointment compared to the Nanopresso. Have also ordered the pod adapter. Looking forward to using that as well as the barista kit Happy Days
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 6 лет назад
George Marchesi I've got a Handresso too, and although I do think it makes a good quality portable espresso there are a few things that I don't like. Firstly I think it's heavier than it needs to be, the basket is too small, and the loss of pressure towards the end of the extraction isn't ideal. The Nanopresso (especially with the double shot adapter) is a vast improvement. Thanks again for watching George and enjoy your Nanopresso!

Thanks Bob, yes coffee outdoors in nature cannot be beaten :) it's my little ritual and an escape from the day to day. Thanks for this addition to your original reviews. Much appreciated! As much as I love my Nano, I’m having a bear of a time adapting to the Barista Kit. Even with the pressure nib out, I can’t avoid a build up of pressure that restricts output. Am I using to much espresso? Too much water in the bigger tank? Too much of a tamp? Any advice to get it flowing would be greatly appreciated.
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 6 лет назад
If you have accurate scales, make sure the grind does not exceed 16g, If you have 16g or less and it still has a restricted flow, try making your grind a little courser - here's a pic of my grind : imgur.com/a/hiKnO When it comes to tamping, I don't tamp too heavy, and I tamp it about 3-4mm down from the top. When you tighten the portafilter on, it will tamp it a little further on its own, this way you can get a consistent tamp if you're using the same grind and weight. Every bean is different, and if you happen to be using a pre-ground, try using a filter grind, some espresso grinds are a little too powdery. Hope that helps.

Travelling to Peru in 2019 with camps international. Really looking forward to it. Was wondering whether I would get better results with grinding my own beforehand, getting preground shop bought coffee or the capsules? Also will you do a video on the different types of coffee you can make with the nanopresso as would love to see that!
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 6 лет назад
Hi, If you're going to grind your own beforehand then it really needs to be no longer than an hour before the extraction. There is a short window with fresh grinds before the subtle flavours of fade. If you're not able to grind directly before using the Nanopresso, then I'd just take preground or the pods with the NS adapter. Freshly Ground is best, then I'd say newly opened pre-ground of a Nespresso pod with be relatively similar. If you're travelling the NS adapter will certainly be the easiest option. But if you have the space and time to bring along a Hario Mill, I'd recommend it, especially in Peru, you'll probably come across some tasty beans on your travels ;) Have fun!
@kieranshaw405
@kieranshaw405 6 лет назад
GadgetViper thanks, I'll see if the grinder can fit with all the other stuff I have to take as pretty sure we're gonna be camping at some point as well as hiking to macchu Picchu, so would probably take the ns adaptor for that.

As an ultralight backpacker like yourself, I really appreciate your attitude about "luxury items". ;-) Getting back to the original Nanopresso (i.e. without Barristo Kit, so for single shots), I have a question: What do you think about the Nanopresso compared with the Staresso? I have and love the Staresso, and if you leave the botton bits off (glass holder and glass) it only weighs 233g (plus 5g for the scoop if you take it along). That's of course quite light, and also compact. The whole unit can fit into a sock, and there are no bits that could get knocked off or anything. So how much would a stripped-down Nanopresso (without the cup, pod adapter, etc.) weigh? Any less or more than the Staresso? Once with Barristo Kit (for a double shot) and once without? That would be cool to know. If not signifantly heavier with Barristo Kit, I might go for that instead of the Staresso, just to have a bigger cup of espresso on the trail.

Hell fella, Been loving your video and have me sold on the Nanopresso & Barista kit combo for my next wild camp. a question you may be able to help me with... If you order from the Wacaco.com website do you have to pay the VAT on receipt or parcel, you mentioned something briefly on your video? Thanks
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 3 года назад
Hi Nathan, You'll pay 20% VAT on delivery, so check the price difference with Amazon, I think a UK company called Bear and Bear sell it too. I think Wacaco sell cheaper to compensate for the VAT. I've always got my Wacaco items directly from them, mostly because it's just been released and that's the only place for new products, but the Nanaporesso has been out for ages now, so it should be easy enough to source it in the UK. Good luck friend, thanks for watching :)

Thanks! I haven't really explored Latte art, I do have a couple of milk frothers, one is a jug the other is a little handheld frother, you might be able to produce art with a frother, but I think to get it really consistent you'd need to steam the milk. There is a fairly affordable stovetop milk steamer by a company called Bellman that might give good results.

I have the same problem. Have you found any solutions? It seems to happen pretty inconsistently for me. One time I'll get a great cup without grounds and the next the foil bursts too much and lets grounds in.

Funny thing, i went ahead yesterday and ordered the Nanopresso, NS and Barista kit after asking your advice on your website. Today i watch this video and you have got the NS from Bear and Bear. Actually where i ordered my stuff. :) they had all the options i wanted, here in Sweden i only found a few online stores but they did not have the barista kit. After seeing the videos maybe i should have opted for another color without the case as the case does not fit when you use the barista kit. Great Video. payed a bit more than i would have with the aeropress that i was into first, but i think this will be great. What grinder are you using? or can you recommend a grinder that is fairly cheap but still good and can make different sizes of grinds? (Espresse, to basically brew grind) Cheers, //Peter

Hi Peter, If you're happy to manually grind then grab the Hario Slim, - geni.us/Tiq6u - it works great with the Nanopresso. If you want an automatic grinder, then just avoid any with blades, you'll want a burr grinder. Unfortunately, a good one isn't cheap and a cheap one isn't good. It's cool you found Bear and Bear, they're a great bunch, they sent me a Stojo collapsable coffee cup the other day, it's a wicked little product, I'll show it off in a future video.

Umm.. I've tried to make unpressurized portafilter by removing little rubber. But the result isn't good, and no crema. did I miss something?, do you grind the coffee very fine and tampered very hard?. Thanks Btw, nice series of videos

Hey thanks for the mention! I really tried liking nespresso capsules but it just isn't for me. I might try it with refillable capsules in the future. I tried the non-pressurized thing today and the americano came out stronger - do you know how that works?
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 6 лет назад
I haven't really noticed a stronger flavour when switching to the non-pressurized setup, I'll switch back later today and do a side by side comparison.

Hi Simon. I don’t know if your still using the Nanopresso, but could you just briefly let me know the benefits of using it in the non pressurised mode please?

Hi, nice video. I am enjoying so much of the barista kit. Can I ask how many clicks are you using for ground coffee without using pressurized rubber for the barista kit?
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 6 лет назад
Thanks, The number of clicks does depend on the coffee beans, but once you've dialled your beans in, if you remove the rubber, you should be able to take it just one click more. As soon as flow becomes drips rather than a continuous stream, then the grind is probably too thin. You could reduce the total weight a little to see if you can improve the flow and keep the thinner grind. Hope that helps.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, it's usually between 4 or 5 depending on the beans. Here is a close-up view of my grind - imgur.com/a/hiKnO hope that helps. Have a great day

thanks... i was being too aggressive. Have you tried cleaning the orange silicones? recently i get a built up of grey stuff and they are starting to feel a bit sticky. I wonder if they are overused? I run 2 shots per day. since September last year.

Thanks for the review, just bought the Nanopresso with the NS adapter after watching your videos, how much water should I use for the nanopresso/NS pods? I also wonder how many coffee bean do you use within a month?
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 5 лет назад
Hi, the amount of water you use will depend on your preferred taste, personally I would extract any more than 50g/ml max. Any more than that and it will be over extracted and taste a little bitter. If you like more volume, I'd recommend extracting around 35/45 grams then topping the cup with hot water. As for the amount of beans I get through, that depends largely on how coffees I make for other people. If it's just me, I'm get through around 55g a day (three double shots) so a regular size bag lasts about a week. Have a great day :)

Hi thank you for your reply, as I am adding milk to my coffee, I think 30-40 ml would be enough, but I am not sure how much water should I add to the water tank in order to get 30ml espresso from 8g of ground, thank you :)

I don't think it would work with the sealpod because the cutting blades wouldn't be able to pierce the stainless steel cup.

Or you could do what I did where I just bought the largest nanoPreso carry case and if you likleaves a little bit of room if you’re using the small cup to put a couple of NS pods at the bottom where you’ll have space if you use the original cup and not the cup from the barista cup! It fits well and give# you some pos storage!

handpresso vs nanopresso which one is the best?

Great video mate! Questions: 1) Can you use the Barista Kit WITH the NS Adapter? 2) Should I use the Barista Kit if I was to use a LUNGO capsule? 3) Do you keep the Barista Kit on your NanoPresso permanently? Thank you!
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 3 года назад
Thanks :) If you're using pods, then you'll need alternative component that comes with the NS adapter, both the NS adapter ring and the barista kit ring is the same. For me personally, I'm not a fan of pods, I prefer freshly ground beans and the double shot (16g) that I get from the barista kit basket. For me, I'm 100% a barista kit (double shot) basket guy, it's practically fused on to my Nanopresso ;)
