The video and the song is based on the 1994 FIFA world Cup final between Italy and Brasil. Fun fact: Potowotominimak (the singer) is nicknamed as "Maurizio Kyiv", in reality in Italy there was a football journalist called "Maurizio Mosca" but since there is Moscow reference they twisted the name into the Ukranian capital instead of the Russian one. (mind blowing plot twist)

This is a song about the FIFA 1994 World Cup Finals in Pasadena, USA. From the Italian point of view, this is basically a serious song about one of our greatest military defeats since WW2. It's been 29 years and IT STILL HURTS goddammit!

I'd argue it's much sadder and heartfelt than ww2 (which we kinda pretend we didn't lose)

The voice you hear during the penalty kicks was Bruno Pizzul, Italian TV commentator for National team matches: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruno_Pizzul

I was 11 when I watched the world cup final, I was at the beach and I was watching the game with all the hotel guests. I remember everyone's tears as if it were yesterday, and the expression on the face of Roberto Baggio, "the divine ponytail", the true hero of that national team, the most talented and loved player in the history of Italian football. This song made me laugh and gave me chills. Thanks Nanowar!

I think I hear some Last Stand in this (Sabaton song from 2016)... right? Anybody else? I love how Joakim is clearly there in the chorus! He sings a lot more than I thought he would. It's more like a duet!

Yes, there's also the Castel Sant'Angelo reference. And when they sing "catenaccio dignified" they are making a reference to "bushido dignified" from "Shiroyama"

"The divine pony tail" is the literal translation of Roberto Baggio's surname, the best Italian player of that period.

for the sake of logic, being Roberto Baggio, his surname should be Baggio

1:24 the numbers are like the number next to the name of football players in TV broadcasting; also the names are mixup between the nicknames of the members of Nanowar of Steel and the surnames of Italian football players that were playing in the Italian National team in 1994 final

When I saw this for the first time, I got goosebumps, even on places I didn't even know was possible to get it on from how pure awesome this song is. But for me, since I'm not into football at all then this song was mutch more about war then football. And I agree with you, the bass in this song, just WAOW 💪👍👌🤘

The song is parody of The Last Stand so of course Sabaton has a hand in this, they did the original.

Nanowar of Steel calls their genre "comedy metal". There is some parody in it, but there's a lot more than that in their music. Some satire as well, sure. But comedy is the most encompassing term.

The "catenaccio digified" lyric (as the carioca's win ratio and being outnumbered) mixes two concept: * the italian catenaccio: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catenaccio * and the similar lyrics from the Sabaton's Shiroyama (and Sparta) song from the Last Defence album Note that sometimes Mr Baffo (the one with the pink wig) sometimes fist-hammers his knee as Joakim (and Till Lindemann from Rammstein) do :) The ball that appears in the video has the same art like the one from the 1994 US World Cup. The whole song sounds similar to Sabaton's Bismark. The Castel Sant'Angelo references links to the "The Last Stand" song... have a look at the lyrics and the relative episode on the Sabaton's history channel video. The names of the Italian players in the video are a mix of the real surname and each of the "nickname" of the band members. The only exception is the "Potoreporter Maurizio Kyiv", where Potoreporter (Nanowar's singer) is a mix of POTOwotominimak and photoREPORTER, while Maurzio Mosca was an Italian sport journalist in the 1990s; Mosca in Italian means both "fly" (the insect) and "Moscow" (Russia's capital), so now you get "Kyiv" vs "Moscow" pun in this "militaresque" song; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurizio_Mosca 5:36 The commentator during the "cynical lottery of penalty kicks" is Bruno Pizzul: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruno_Pizzul The divine ponytail: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baggio:_The_Divine_Ponytail Finally that ugly mess of marble sticks at the end of the video is the mascot of the Italy '90 World Cup: figc.it/it/museo-del-calcio/la-collezione-digitale/la-collezione-digitale/cimelio/?id=515
