The reporter room is like a pack of hungry wolves trying to trip her up on the Serena debacle and get her to say something seething and controversial. Rather than an abundance of congratulations, they would have honestly been more interested to interview Serena even after losing, rather than the rightful champion.
@gesshugh9976
@gesshugh9976 5 лет назад
Right. Serena got upset, it happens. She got punished. It happens. Naomi won a slam. That doesn't just happen. That's what should be important. Them asking about spoiling the moment, they are the ones doing the spoiling. For Christ sakes, this is going to literally change her life. And she deserves the win because she was doing so well in that matches, and all the ones leading up. It's not like she was handed a victory. They need to just ask about her game, and then congratulate her. If they want to contreversy, they can go interview Serena later, and get her opinion. Don't detract from this moment. Ha e some priorities. I feel bad that Naomi feels like she has to be all humble and grateful since she won by technicality. She deserves to be the champ, and everyone is trying to make her feel like she doesn't.

@ Collins Medusa. "Federer will never do that, he never takes the shine of his opponents away" Really? Remember the Australian Open trophy ceremony? Federer absolutely took the shine away from Rafael Nadal's win. Back to today's match, Serena's behaviour was bang out of order. I nearly choked when I heard her say she is always gracious and humble. IMO she was losing anyway, she was totally outplayed. I just don't see how a woman throwing a childish temper tantrum can inspire someone so much that they break into tears. She displayed despicable behavior that bordered on histrionics. The hug made no sense. I bet deep down Naomi resents her for her behavior, and does not think the judge made the wrong decision. Serena threw a verbal temper tantrum, smashed a racket on the ground in frustration and demanded a apology, while there were games to still play, over the intercom by the judge for what she insisted was not her cheating? You're a tennis official and coaching is not allowed. Sometimes adjustments need to be made. Sometimes you need to get closer or further to the net. A thumbs up is pointing, like it or not. Can't you see how the official might interpret that as a signal so maybe get closer or further away on the net on a serve? And the judge is suppose to take her for her word, mid-game, that she is not a cheater because she has a daughter. Then accuses him of being misogynistic and demands an apology over the speaker again. Are you kidding me? This is Heroism? fuck that. Sorry btw, i wanst trying to rip on you for being gay. I cry watching dog rescue videos all the time so I'm a puss too.

Nicely put! The tendency to pile on does a disservice to Naomi and Serena. I loved her saying "It's just a game". I also loved her unconditional respect for Serena and her natural and strong resistance not enter into a controversy she doesn't feel part of.

I think she lied a little here. She said what happened didn't change the way she sees Serena. From her tears and facial expressions you know Serena's image as her idol is a little bit tarnished now.
@jeffmoore9487
@jeffmoore9487 5 лет назад
TheOldGods: That is exactly opposite to what Naomi said. Let's take her at her word. Despite repeated questions, she repeatedly said she didn't really know what was going on and couldn't hear it either. When she had beat her idol and then hugged Serena at the net, she was faced with feelings she'd had since childhood. It's not easy beating your idol. Have you ever seen and heard Federer's disdain towards a referee? He verbalizes it differently, but makes it quite obvious too. No big deal.

In japan children are taught to respect other people and to be gentle to animals and nature. They also learn how to be generous, compassionate, and empathetic. Besides this, the kids are taught qualities like grit, self-control, and justice. If her mother is Japanese she has learnt plenty of that with her.

Of course I miss only good part of Japan such as cleanness, non confrontational, good manner and patient people, high quality products, fresh food, health care system, and the drinking culture. IMO most of people are not 2 faces, we just change our attitude depend on who we are talking to. You don't have to be too honest or opinionated for just to your acquaintances. We don't like drama. We try to avoid it. Japanese are honest toward someone who they care about. Like their spouse, family, best friends.

You know, Spendid...it didn't have to turn out the way it did for Serena if only she could have controlled her emotions a bit better. I am sure she's carrying lots of Psychological bagage about not being treated fairly during the past 20 years on the tour. She may or may not have a point. The issue is, there is a time and place to address those concerns. You are in the middle of a very tough match, that you're struggling to save against a much younger and worthy opponent. You need all your mental and emotional energy to hopefully be victorious, but she would not let go of the fact she got a warning - for the action of her coach. She decided to unload the Psychological baggage she's been carrying over the years- that's why she was unable to let go of the simple warning she was given. And one thing leads to another until she was assesed a 15 point penalty and subsequently an entire game. I hope she reflects and learn from this...

David Osa, Naomi’s family moved to the US at Fort Lauderdale when she was only 3 years old, Naomi basically grew up here in the US but I think because Naomi has a Japanese mother it must have help a lot for her to be molded to have a calm demeanor and be unassuming. I hope her grandparents is still alive to see Naomi’s successes. Record said that in racially homogeneous Japan, Naomi Osaka is considered hāfu, which is Japanese word for biracial. Naomi Osaka's Japanese grandfather was furious when he found out her mother was romantically involved with a black man. As a result of their interracial relationship, her mother Tamaki Osaka did not have contact with her family for over 10 years. In a 2016 interview, Naomi Osaka said: "When I go to Japan, people are confused. From my name, they don’t expect to see a black girl”
@HughJorgan1

Osaka's answers are smart. She's been trained well to stay on point and not fall into traps set by dumb media questions. For example, she's asked what she was thinking while the drama was unfolding. Her answer: "My back was turned I didn't know what was going on". Yeah.... right. Then when challenged again that she "must have" heard what was going on, she stuck to the first answer. Smart girl.

The press asking all of these questions about the dramatic aspect of the match is so disrespectful, trying to get some news bites, instead of focusing on her play, positive aspects of the game, etc. She answered all of the questions so beautifully, well-poised, and pivoting the questions to something that is worth talking about. Looking forward to seeing more great things from her!

Naomi is so humble. She had every right to be angry and bitter since her glory moment that she had worked her whole life for was stolen from her. But she chose to apologize and acknowledge Serena as an amazing player. NAOMI ERA IS STARTING AND SHE HAS MANY FANS!!!

@@maggotbrain7499 "Nothing was stolen from her; where do people get that idea from?" From Katrina Adams, the president of the U.S. Tennis Association, who before handing out the trophies said, "This was not the outcome WE were hoping for." ...And the booing crowds, who continued to boo long after the umpire had left and the two players were on the podium, waiting to receive their trophies. Naomi Osaka was in tears because it appeared the crowd was booing the outcome (her victory). The fact is, many of the crowd were people who don't regularly follow tennis but were fans of Serena anyway. They believed the hype that Serena was destined to get her 24th Grand Slam title, and anything that stood in the way of this was just denying what Serena was entitled to have. Serena and her minions soiled Naomi's moment of glory.

Naomi is remarkable. The most noble person in this entire scenario. She holds no animosity, harbors no ill will, no hate, no disrespect towards Serena. She is STILL Naomi's idol and role model. All the haters, the media hacks, the pundits, and most of all the angry, bitter people who claim to be tennis fans. The opportunism and ugly has come out full throttle. Naomi is leaps and bounds beyond all of that.
