Bully? Naomi allowed the question and even wanted it repeated. It's clear to me, that her answer of not knowing how to balance it all is what triggered her tears. Hearing it out loud sees to have hit her..reporter did nothing wrong. Best of wishes to Naomi.

I think because she may have felt bad at the time that she didn't understand the question and immediately she went from a smile to red face and weeping like a mental block. This seems to be a medical and emotional condition. She already stated she wasn't wanting to speak to press/ conference and yet they put her right up there. She begin looking up and trying to collect her thoughts but she just couldn't go further. She needs them to work around her condition respectfully the same way they do autism. She has several things going on and not in good emotional, mental space. Doesn't need the pressure right now and need to be able to breathe and just enjoy tennis pressure free. She already went through beating one of the greats in 2018 and once again it will be her again up against. She got misused and booed for winning. She don't have to serve the public or press and like Simone Biles, if she feel she be more emotionally happy to sit out then good for her.

The reporter starts off with “You’re not crazy about dealing with us” and indicates that she has “interests served by her media presence” he is clearly setting a tone with his word choice and making unsubstantiated assumptions that the media is somehow contributing to her success. Naomi is right to clarify that the interest in her is due to her abilities as a tennis player. Furthermore the media is benefiting from Naomi. She has stated that she doesn’t feel comfortable in press conferences but did not convey in any way an animus towards “dealing” with anyone. He basically said I know you are uncomfortable with Us right now so tell Me on national television how uncomfortable you are since you are benefiting from Us. The word choice of a professional who makes his living with words is poor at best and incendiary at its base. If he was half the talent as a reporter that she is as a tennis player then this exchange would have transpired better. I do not believe this was unintentional which is why he rephrased his question when asked to repeat it. The comparisons that I am reading of Naomi’s reaction to that of other athletes are absolutely baseless as Naomi is her own person. She doesn’t owe anyone anything and isn’t trying to be like anyone else. If more people would accept and appreciate that she is such a genuine and honest person, I can’t help but surmise that these media exchanges would better experiences and hopefully carry over to better dialogue with other athletes as well.

She seemed as even though she had a hard time expressing herself, she was fine with him, and his questions. I think the Haiti thing is what set off a very sensitive young woman. I also think that there are much deeper factors at play here, that I won't even touch right now. For those of you who don't understand the problem with the question: It's not 1955 any longer. Media members such as this guy who show up to press conferences and ask questions have nothing to do with Naomi Osaka being a popular athlete. She could never do another press conference for the rest of her life and it wouldn't make a bit of difference. She could communicate with the world through her social media accounts, as long as tennis was ok with it, and literally nothing would change. So he is starting from the false premise of "The Media Made You". Then, from that false premise, he's throwing her supposed distaste for it back in her face by asking her how she will balance said distaste with the benefits, basically saying "look at what the media has done for you, shouldn't you show it more respect?" when in fact, she is always so professional and so respectful in her public appearances. Just absolutely ridiculous, and a shameful, shameful line of questioning.

@@yenivah.4986 Where did I go political? Athletes and stars like her use their popularity to push ridiculous lies like BLM. From top to bottom it is a LIE. There are plenty of people saying, "No lives matter till black lives matter." Meanwhile, no one says that black lives don't matter. That is the lie. You are into your feelings I can tell with your exclamation point. This is about facts not feelings. If she is hurting, fine, decline the interview. Even when the woman said let's go to the next question, Naomi said, no I find this question very interesting. Maybe don't underestimate her ability to handle it. Your statement about cops shooting random innocent black people is the LIE that keeps on giving. In 2020 there were under 20 unarmed black persons shot dead by police, there were over 40 white persons shot dead. The thing is, the white people don't make your main stream media so you do not think it's happening. In almost every case of these so called "innocent" black men getting shot, they are resisting arrest. There are circumstances police are put under and have to make split second decisions that no one can empathize with, unless they have been in that situation. Blacks also commit crimes at a large disproportionate rate to any other race in the country so they have more altercations with police that leads to more death. No politics here, just the facts.

The reporters' condescending tone and microaggression statements (plural) before the actual question was unnecessary. I said what I said. Like Naomi said it's more so "the timing". I agree with one of the commentators: she actually needed that question so she can better understand, she needs a break to better understand how to balance the two, because both can be true at the same time, and I'm sure the report knew that. It's called cognitive dissonance. Watch the entire interview. she was asked questions about her Dad and current events in Haiti 🇭🇹 prior to this clip. Smh
