Precious lady of God, so underrated and was not given opportunities like others.. (no mention) but she was anointed and deserved to be heard and respected much more than she was.
You're very observant, and I'm glad you noticed. I first met Naomi and the group in the early 1970s, when I was 8 years old. They and my family became friends and they stayed at our home many times. I also enjoyed a few road trips with them when I was a teen. I was extremely honored to be a part of her group as the tenor for several years, beginning in 1989. All that to say that I knew her very well, and just wanted to affirm what you said. She indeed was a very precious lady, the real deal, and like a second mom to me. My best memory of her were the times when she thought she was alone in her dressing room on the bus, and I'd quietly sneak onto the bus and respectfully sit there in the front lounge of the bus, with humble tears, listening to her pray in the Spirit. That is something I will never, ever forget as long as I live. And, try as they may, she never would let anyone make her a "star." She loved being around the people she sang to, and would often go inside a church or concert venue a little early just to fellowship with the people. I also witnessed her praying with people in public places unashamedly... restaurants, malls, department stores, grocery stores, etc. She was a Godly woman, humble, and yes, anointed. The people loved her. But it's that anointing that rubbed against the grain of the "powers that be" in Gospel music. She knew it. But would not compromise for any amount of fame or accolades. I hold her in esteem right up there with Priscilla McGruder. Both of these anointed ladies were Gospel music powerhouses.
Lord give me strength, give me courage, make me bold. That I might lead some lost sheep into thy fold. That I might stand unafraid or move for thee. That you might be fully satisfied with me. I want my Lord to be satisfied with me. I want my life to be what He’d have it be. And when I come to that great eternity. His smile will say He is satisfied with me.
Thank you for putting a name to a face .. I have watched this wonderful woman praising Our Savior in many Gaither videos but until now I never knew her name. Now I can see her other music on You Tube and it is great.
I usually don't comment but I just wanted to agree with your comment! I've seen her in so many its about time I find her name! love this song! God bless -Hunter
She was raised in Enigma, Ga. a town so small it has no red lights at all. Sadly, she passed away not long ago. She is dearly loved and miss by all of Berrien county, Ga.
One of the first gospel groups I ever heard was The Sego Brothers and Naomi. My dad and mom started me singing when I was 6 years old. Most of the songs we sang at that time were Sego songs. Lot of great, old vids of them on RU-vid
Great song sung by Naomi and Vernon and singing from the heart but there are some people there that they are more interested in being on camera than anything but I suppose they get paid a fortune
I think some of them are just tickled seeing themselves on camera. They're all used to performing in front of large audiences, so exposure was nothing new.
