My mother thought she could permanently abuse me and there would be no consequences further down the line. Despite the abuse she really believed I would still be around to do her bidding and care for her when she was old. IT didn't happen. Life is a game of consequences.

It’s sad with them viewing things so skewed because usually they have toxic family or another toxic surrounding of people that support and enable the deranged actions and viewpoints. They never surround themselves with decent people and if they do they abuse them

reminds me of the concept of lacking theory of mind - magical thinking + emotional non thinking + incapacity to predict what is going on inside minds of others (not that they are interested). But they do have difficulty with that.

This really helped me. I'm a retired teacher and am reviewing my whole life through this new lens of narcissism knowledge. I had a colleague my age, and she and my husband would go out for dinner occasionally. He was an art teacher and an excellent artist. The 3 of us were discussing Picasso. She stated he was a complete fake, and that anyone who likes his work is like the people in the Emperor's New Clothes. I asked her "Is it possible other people see things you don't?" She said "No-there is nothing there to see". !!!! She later distanced herself from me and you helped me process why. Mystery solved. WOW. I really feel sorry for these people. I have been surrounded by them, but am learning how to recognize them and avoid them. thank you. You have excellent communication skills!

Exactly Narcissists think they know everything. Many of these narcissists become executives. They are hard on their employees and even harder on their own children. My father was like this and changed the last few years of his life. He has already done permanent damage. He always ds he NEVER made a mistake He was delusional. That way of thinking is rewarded in American corporations.

OMGosh!! So completely said!😢😅 It makes me want to laugh and cry! My narc is caught in this endless cycle. And while it is so sad to watch, I have to safeguard myself! I'm slowly detaching.. finally realizing that I'll never be able to fix it. After all, we're both only human. And that it's ok to let go and let a higher power step in and guide this person to another destiny. One very different than mine. It takes a weight off my shoulders! We share a history together, but now the madness can finally end!🎉

I'm reminded of a narcissistic family member who would always complain about work and paint herself as the victim--because she felt entitled to not do work; She would admit to being "too busy" to help her team. Yet in her mind, she was hardworking and the best person in her department, so her supervisor should retire/move over so she could take over. Fast-forward several years and there is no promotion. Her supervisor has retired, yes, but she's doing the extra work, with her same title and pay. It just goes to show that she never thought about the consequences towards her actual poor work ethic 🤦‍♀

Narcissists don't WANT to HAVE TO think. What they say SHOULD be the truth to everyone with no questioning. Having to explain, justify and be questioned is to them a deviation from their grandiosity. Yet, if someone else just claims stuff about them, they defend and defend, meaning that they will never accept treatment that they dish out to others, entitlement. That's a concise description and already fits intellectual laziness, entitlement, grandiosity and the resulting delusion (their accusations do not correspond with evidence most of the time, yet they refuse all evidence that points to them being a perpetrator. It's like they never learned to use reason and think that who is right is about a yelling-contest and total refusal to back down on claims).

My extremely narc daughter and family are members of country club and spend all summer at pool; I’ve taken them fishing on docks; I’ve waded with them in lakes. I assumed they could all swim. Ages 9, 12, 14. She was even on swim team. But at a holiday event where anyone getting in water was screened by lifeguards for swimming ability, all 3 grandchildren were immediately pulled out of pool! They couldn’t swim!!! This is the way my daughter is in everything!! Everything!! She got mad when I told her I was the only one in family who could rush and rescue kids from a school shooter, since I was in Infantry for 12 years. She got angry and said she could do it too! She’s a buzybody stay at home mom who rarely cooks, leaves kids home alone when sick and only 9, without feeding them. She’s the busiest person I’ve ever seen but nothing is ever done. 😜

I know of a situation where a wife wanted to further her education (attend dental school) while the husband wanted another child. And realistically even though they had the money, he didn’t want to pay for school. He never got up at night to help with the children and the wife knew that she wouldn’t be able to handle everything with the children on her own and go to a demanding program/have time to study at the same time. After he got what he wanted (another child) and even though the wife was happy, the children were healthy and fine, the husband began to complain that the wife never followed through with the plan for higher education. He wouldn’t admit that it was magical thinking to believe that she could go without sleep day and night, while he frequently traveled without the family and enjoyed a self centered life.

The description of the nonsense they talk is so familiar. I often end up saying, “I hate it when you talk a load of twaddle”. The rest of the symptoms described are also very familiar. Worse still, is my experience is with the covert narcs. Very sly, inveterate liars, entirely shameless.

Accountability is not on the narcissist menu. Like groceries aren't on the hardware stores menu. We don't carry that here. Also, when they accuse you of something they find you didn’t do. They Never apologize. Narcissist do think, but totally irrationally.

The idea of a "FLYING MONKEY" I know a Narcissist that went on a mission to start a dance school. Then a food truck. One day we went out to buy some Soul Food . She didn't get the Mac Cheese with her order. But food is spread out. With Mac Cheese. She's looking at her order with out the Mac Cheese, But Mac Cheese is right in her face. I'm like there's Mac Cheese right here. I had to point out the Mac Cheese, because she only concerned that they didn't give her order Mac Cheese. Hey stupid, all this Mac Cheese is right in front of ya face. Like a little child I had to guide her. They don't think on the most simplest circumstances.

You have a very good way of getting your message across. One of my spouse's feelings of thought is this, each time I would smell something burning or a fowl odor I would say whats that smell and she would say she don't smell anything. It would confuse me but now I understand more of why she don't smell what I smell. She don't smell It but I do, so if she doesn't smell the odor to her it doesn't smell bad. So since she don't smell it it must not smell, I know this doesn't sound logical but this is how they confuse you. They are not doing it on purpose It's how they feel. I use to think she does it on purpose to confuse me but now I know this is not a strategy to confuse, this is their feeling so if they feel it It must be true. Now I know not to argue with her. Thank you.

I would say 'contradiction' & 'no self reflection' (no accountability) is their Best definition. If you say: A, they Will answer B and you Will go to Z because they are not logical but contradiction creatures. Where you are at, they Will be in the opposition. Always. It is not about the truth or logic but about winning and pride.

Funny story... My Nex and I were at the computer and some thing popped up about foot problems and how having your second toe being longer than your big toe could be the cause of foot pain. He goes off on a rant that having a longer second toe was a freaky disfigurement. I mentioned to him that HIS second toes were longer that his big toes and he started yelling at me like I was intentionally criticizing and attacking him. We went back and forth a few times as I tried to get him to take off his shoes and socks. Finally he relented to prove me wrong... He just stood up and stomped out of the room to go and pout. He had said that he hated that I was never wrong (because I won't engage if I am not absolutley certain of my perspective) and I like to fight. 😂

I don't agree they are ruled by emotions, because they don't have many emotions apart from anger, they are ruled by anger, hatred and paranoia, the are incapable of love, I can be 😊crying, in hospital after suicide attempts and my sister is as happy as pie! Most of the time they seem to to use a psychiatric term have no affect, i have had this term applied to me when i have been , but they are cunning, they have very little heart 💕 centre operative, although I thought i saw some in one sister when I was emaciated trapped in hospital, she carried on such a charming intelligent conversation with the nurse i was impressed, this is why people think there is nothing wrong with them, my psychiatrist thinks they are wonderful caring people!. They are ruled by jealousy, envy, big time and don't ever try to gain dominance over them!❤ i would love to be invisible and watch them all day, they are indulgent in food and pleasure but work hard, very hard workers! 😅

My sister ran a successful legal firm in Newcastle Australia 🇦🇺 andfor years yet she is npd and has had a very successful career in this profession, she is very smart in her chosen career yet she is an emotional cripple, no heart, i think this has been a bonus, she is ruthless, ehereas i would be worried about making everyone happy, I also have cptsd❤ so i wouldn't be able to cope, i'm a very emotional, caring type, artist!z
