@@f67739 He was hated from rock fans too because they're jealous of him after he became big with EDM. He used to be a singer for emo band (From First to Last).
I don't care how big a Skrillex hater you may be, dude is nice as hell and he gave a great interview and was ...doo doo cooperative. Ellie is hot as hell dayum, love her voice.
Love coming back to this interview after seeing how much Skrillex has grown and succeeded. My music taste has definitely changed, not into EDM/Dubstep as much as I was when I was in like 5th grade but his music will always bang, some solid fucking memories.
***** Same thing here, too! You don't know how much I hated him, down to the point I wish he would just disappear, but when I started investigating his Wikipedia article, this dude just became a wonder to me. He used to sing in a band called From First To Last, he sang screamos, and he dated Ellie Goulding. This dude then became such an inspiration when I found out that he sang about depressing stuff like self harm and made me realize that this dude just does what he likes to do. I know respect the dude and look up to him :)
Yep, day two. Fucking guy has interviewed EVERYONE. He creates such an interesting dynamic through his interviews, disarms people. I like how goes across all genres. So prolific, for so many years.
The fact that some people don't like his music, me included, doesn't take away the fact that Skrillex is an excellent producer who loves doing what he's doing. He seems to be a very chill guy in interviews like these, you gotta give him some props for that.
Check out *From first to last*.. "i liked you better before you were naked on the internet" "Emily" He has other really good ones but i cant remember right now.
soypitt thats the thing about music, it appeals to its audience and others think its bad. despite popular "thoughts" his music does take time and skill to make just like everyone else does.
Skrillex is a true pioneer who was part of the movement that changed the course electronic music forever. He is an inspiration to hundreds of thousands of bedroom producers around the globe. He is respectful, and supportive of people making electronic music no matter what their skill and talent level. If you hate him fine, but you have to at least recognize is impact on the world, and his originality. But yes, I wish he would wash his fuckin hair for once.
These interviews are really enlightening. Gives you a whole different perspective on the artists. Personally I don't care for Skrillex and I despise Lil Wayne but they both come off as very likeable people, while Henry Rollins who I adore doesn't display himself in that flattering a light.
Humble enough, right? Not like some musician snobs with their egotistical noses getting lost in the clouds.. At the same time, Nardwuar has become quite a celebrity himself. What's not to say he would treat a regular person with less respect, yet in that same respect, what is not say that he wouldn't.. I don't know.
It's really awesome to see Sonny be genuine and really jazzed up about music. He really knew his shit too. I love learning about what big-time artists draw their inspiration from. Keep doing what you do, Narduar. You are amazing.
he was also a vocalist of an emo band from early 2000s called From First To Last. a pretty popular vocalist amongst teenage girls on myspace in that era
@@cheeseontoastbrah I've never actually seen any Skrillex interviews from the early 2010s where he's mentioned From First to Last strangely enough, maybe he didn't want to talk about it during that time? Although I'm just speculating
Skrillex's personality isn't like you'd expect. He kind of comes off as arrogant and "too cool for school," but he seems like a humble, cool person. Guess it just shows how the media can portray an image.
Man, i am so awed by Ellie and Skillrex's sweet and humble demeanor i will give his mudic more of a chance. I can often be influenced to like ones work just from their personality just as arrogance can drive me away. I am blown away by his appreciation and Ellie's sweet girl next door charm. I am officially a fan now. LOVE YOU ,TOO, NARDWUAR
I have to say, I really idolize sonny, from first to last was one of my favorite bands partly because of his amazing vocals. And I don't like everything he's done as skrillix but I still have mad respect for the guy for his art.
Are you entirely sure it wasn't because he was in one of the gayest screamo bands in the history of mankind? Almost all his fans think Skrillex either invented dubstep or is the God of it when most of what he produces isn't actually dubstep? 12 year old girls showing up to oldshool dubstep shows because they think brostep is all it sounds like and extremely confused when the bass doesn't drop? Because the style he uses over and over literally started out as a joke by a dubstep artist? Got plenty more if that hasn''t elucidated you.
Godbless you Sonny. We used to bike at warped tour together back stage and I am so proud of your stuff. I still have all the bells demo and early stuff you sent me on myspace!
+Chad Yuill I was going to mention that too... Nardwaur should have asked him about him being in that band. Most edm listeners don't know where skrillex started. I'm in Arizona though so I heard his band because my buddy's were in bands and performed together. My buddy is now known as ghastly in the edm world.
Well there is a theory that he communicates with spirits much like the "phoney" tarot readers. It has been said that the information he knows is way to personal to be asking friends and such.
Part of it is probably just combing through every single interview he can find. Some of these people do so many interviews there's no possible way they can remember everything they've ever said in them, so if he can find some vague mention of something in an interview he can bring it up and they'll start talking about it not remembering that they've mentioned it publicly once before. Also I'm pretty sure he gets in contact with their friends and family sometimes. He said in his ted talk that sometimes he just asks people stuff because he figures they'll probably know about it, and when they do it kind of blows their mind that he could ask them about that specific thing.
I watched a video recently but they said he literally just asks their managers, family members, etc. and sometimes he gets the answers, sometimes he doesn’t
This is one of my favorite interviews. He even took time to bring in his girlfriend into it. Skrillex seems like a really genuinely nice guy. In my head I imagined the doot doo at the end as a heavy bass drop.
Dude, you keep giving these artists the best possible gifts. Seeing these guys go crazy for their influential artists is just such a cool experience for us. Man you really do you're research.
I know it's hip to hate Skrillex, and that somehow disliking his music means you have to personally attack the guy, but he seriously comes across as the nicest dude ever.
He's super nice. Absolutely don't care for his music, sometimes it feels good if it's mixed well into a set. My biggest Skrillex beef is how other people say he influenced dubstep which is just so get from the truth. To say he or excision or those dudes had any influence in the creation of dubstep erases the actual culture of UK dance music. But that's other people being wrong and nothing to do with this nice guy.
I certainly don’t think it’s “far from the truth” to say Skrillex “influenced” dubstep. Skrillex was the vanguard of dubstep’s expansion into the United States, and for many he’s still the face of the massively popular “brostep” style that took off there. The fact is that millions would have no knowledge of the UK sound or artists if it weren’t for Skrillex and the popularity of brostep. One can recognize Skrillex’s influence without erasing the culture of UK dance music.
Looking back on this ten years later & it’s crazy he mentioned Diplo and Hundred Waters by name and they ended up being some of his most successful collabs.
New fan on board. Great video. 'The making of Breaking a Sweat', was worth watching again and again.. Hoping that Skrillex breaks new ground again; keeps innovating, growing as an artist..
I'm not a fan of Skrillex's music at all really but I really like this interview because it's somehow comforting to see how much of a nice dude Skrillex is despite his huge success.
Skrillex is such a solid fellow... man, i wasn't expecting him to be so kind and thankful... His new look and music threw me off at first, (FFTL fan) but it's not like the Chili Peppers JUST stuck with one sound or one look.. i can dig it. (:
this is great. never really seen Skrillex speak before, as I never really searched. not a fan of the genre but know of him obviously for the bang song. he is a super interesting and nice guy in this video. and its like a knowledge orgasm ha ha. he never seemed pretentious or acted like he knew something he didnt know. also genuinely appreciative of the interview and nardwuar. such a great interviewer.
I wish skrillex had more interviews this was the only interview where he seems comfortable, wish we could have gottrn more in-depth interviews with skrillex
*USUALLY having the chance to interview a famous celebrity changes your life and career forever.... But we all know if this guy interviews YOU your life and career will change. We get to see celebrities for who they truly are, like a conversation with a friend and I think it changes their life touching on the memories no one else knows while being given awesome gifts just during an interview and changes their careers for us to see how they are in a normal light.... even #3 (Chris) from Slipknot broke character with this guy. And Skrillex is such an awesome guy!! It just takes this interviewer like the first 15 seconds to prove it!!!*
That interview was " FUN " Really great to see Nardwuar take these mega stars on a trip so out of this world that for the duration of the interview they go on a journey. Much love to Nardwuar and Skrillex , and the blond babe.
