Kinda hard to explain but 130 is kinda like half 170, they can both have drum kicks happening at the same time, so the bpm is defined kinda by the genre and accompanying noises.
@@cyberoverkill5844 I dont really get your point. Half of 170 is 85 which is also nowhere near 130. Its more like 3/4 of 170. Which would be 127,5 but even then the rythm would be quite different🤔
Yeh but people making music in their day wouldn't have said 140, they'd have said 70, so to him 130 is mad high, he wasn't listening to a click, he was listening to a beat at 170, probably just sounded fast as fuck to him so he just guessed a high number
the doors are used to playing with real instruments with a real snap tempo unlike we have an instant tempo functions in every DAW..... Bottom line they are much more into real music then a technology based music and it says all that why he said, is the speed 130???? which was a common question.
You see the moment where Sonny didn’t object to starting over, I love how he’s smart enough to put his ego to the side and just learn. Also, props to The Doors for noticing and returning the respect.
crazy thing is Jim Morrison spoke about how he saw music in the future.. robotic sounds and everything this song is. wild thing is his band mates were part of it actually happening.
That Doors member reacting to Dubstep and his face expression. Imagine how the generation z will react and what faces they will have when they hear the new type of music 50 years from now.
S Woodhouse No I don't. They may have enjoyed it for all I know, but I doubt it... I am not saying I know for a fact they didn't enjoy it. But I doubt they enjoyed it.
I always thought how skrillex came up with the melody for Breakin' a sweat. This was one of those songs for me where i played it for the melody and not for the drop and thought like how much time he would have invested in finding the chords and stuff. Now i see this guy comes in goes "Uh-ha Uh-ha UH-HA.......give me a tempo like this" and lays it down on the spot.......What a LEGEND!!!
@@maximusbeats2372 ehh not really that didn’t age well edm music is good yeah and it’s still big but it’s just not what it was back in 2012 even tho making beats and what not is used in raps so it kinda is still the future but yeah I think over all edm is dying out and everyone went to more trap music and rap
This video never ceases to blow me away. I can't imagine sitting in the studio with the living members of a band like The Doors and making music with them. Props to Sonny for even being able to hold his shit together during this whole process. I mean damn, what a legendary track.
I guarantee you he was not holding his shit together. On the surface he probably looked calm and cool but under all that... "FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK FUUUUUUUUCK! don't embarrass yourself sonny. We got this. Its cool. Itscoolitscoolitscool. CALM THE FUCK DOWN BRO... THEIR JUST YOUR FUCKING IDOLS. *internal screams intensify* "
Seriously. Given the back story (growing up listening to those guys), in his place I would have died on the spot (or something like "shat myself," as he said).
I can't even imagine what this must have felt like. Imagine having to show something so abrasive and new to the scene to someone so seasoned in their own field. And someone most people, including Sonny, think are at a musical genius level. Skrill looked nervous but he handled business and I actually find that this track is aging decently...it's one of my favorites. But I also grew up on The Doors music...so I'm a little biased hahaha.
that drop still sends shivers down my spine. so crisp and full of energy. Skrillex never fails to create masterpieces, even to this day. he is a musical genius
Skrillex is one of the most experimental artists to ever exist, STILL to this day. Ill NEVER forget when this shit came out. Skrillex undoubtedly changed my life in many ways.
@@V0ID_beats not really, listen to electronic artists like max cooper, moderat,Jon hopkins,Alex banks, autechre etc etc if you wanna hear music that doesn't fit into any particular genres
Maybe some day, people will realize that unless you're a fucking genius like Sonny really is (on electronic music), it is not as easy as you think. I'm not defending the guy because I like him and his music, but there is so much fucking jealousy, hate and negative shit on EVERYTHING about him. And then there are the people who think music production is from a click of a button (what button exactly?), how bout you guys give it a shot? Let me know how you go. Cheers (:
CORRECT!! imma be honest... i thought that stuff like this was really really easy. so when i got the chance to do this, BOY WAS I WRONG. i thought you just make sounds and put them together, NO you need make the sound on your own, then EQ, process, mix, premaster, master, and much more. So i now say to people that hate on this... try it for yourself, then see where you stand.
Every time I listen to OG skrillex it brings a tear to my eye. I used to have a close friend that loved his music alot. It was one of the key ways we bonded, vibing to his tracks. Miss you homie.
To be honest I don't think it really matters what headphones he uses, a) If he listens to music through beats then he is used to what music sounds like through them and his mixes should come out pretty normal as a result. b) He almost certainly gets his stuff mixed and mastered by a professional. Don't really see then harm, no doubt he got payed a shit ton of money just to wear them.
@@stephenward2743 the problem is mixing with beats has too much bass and so mixing with them will make it sound weird on other headphones because the frequencies will be adjusted weirdly
One thing about Skrillex is his ability to put what’s on his mind directly out. Not a similar sound but what he envisioned. There was no walls for his sound.
Jim Morrison actually predicted a guy like Skrillex. In the entire interview you can find on youtube ...he talks about the future of music. Says at some point he could see someone alone on stage playing music through a computer or electronic devices. Isn't that unreal and ironic that his bandmates would be a part of that? The future is uncertain and the end is always near ....well ...Jim was very perceptive ..smart intelligent..very surprising to see he wasn't like his media image. He also said in the same interview if you had someone who gave you a lot of money and you went away and secluded yourself to write songs and create an album it probably wouldn't be very relevant. You would be out of touch. I think there are a lot of people out of touch!!!!!
If you really think about it, Skrillex came in with this made up drum track. Ray comes and says "give me a tempo like this" and that right there MADE the track. Wouldn't of been as good if they kept it at the original speed.
Skrillex: plays beat Robbie: (thinking) What am I supposed to do with that geez this is what the new music sounds like?! I don’t get it Ray: Alright that’s pretty lit fam check it out I wrote this gucci hook that goes perfect with it-FINISHES SONG
First bit seems so tense because you can see, Different generations whom do it a different way. But loved how both sides work together, Skrillex got to do what he's good at and they got to play how they've always played... Well impressive to see him jump on a keyboard and instantly start playing to it that was next level freestyle. Skrillex end product of that track was amazing. Such an inspiring artist, Virtuoso how he seems to project so many styles, Doing something different its never the same...
I'm 57 and I'm a huge fan of Dubstep and Skrillex. Back in the 90's till 2003 I used to throw Raves in the Pittsburgh and Cleveland area's. I used to favor break beats but Dubstep is so much better. I love this mix. I've been a metalhead since I was 2 and a half years old. I used to have all of the Doors album's. I moved not far away and forgot my huge album collection and my Step-dad threw all of my albums in the trash. This is one of the coolest mixes I've ever heard! Props to Skrillex and the Doors!!❤❤❤
People give Skrillex a lot of flack, and I'm guilty of it too. But you have to admit, this is really frickin cool. Two completely different generations collaborating for an epic tune like this. It's just really cool.
It was a good idea to turn down that tempo. Also it's super cool how Skrillex took those sounds from the jam sessions and added his own twists to them. A collaboration in the truest sense
Edit: I got a lot of hate for giving credit where it was due. Skrillex revolutionized mainstream music and brought electronic music to the big stages. I wasn't talking about the underground UK scene lol. For all of my new visitors: This was 2011. This is pre-dubstep gutter, pre-Skrillex mainstream success, pre-EDM becoming a massive player in the genre field for Western Music (which was caused by the man you see on screen) amongst many other literally ridiculous events. Before Skrillex, EDM was very bare bones, very dry, and club built music. This man is a pioneer in every sense of the word, and is also a hands on musician, mastering many instruments, not just a keyboard. So before you go shitting on "the song being underwhelming" or anything of the sort, keep in mind this man literally revolutionized music in many ways lol.
Bro I relate to your enthusiasm about the legacy but what the hell are you talking about romanticizing the past where it's not needed? Skrillex was immensly popular by 1 or even 2 years by the time he did the collab with The Doors, imagine everyone knew him back in my Romania like wat 😄 it's only been a decade and we're already perfuming memories?
Dude it was 2011 not 1978. The modern EDM movement was pretty much in full swing. Skrillex was groundbreaking af but acting like this is Kraftwerk working with a Minimoog is obnoxious
Guetta too completely changed EDM with famous US rappers collabs that was completely unique at that time and opened EDM to mainstream in USA and worldwide. Whether you like his music or not it's really a fact. Then came the popification of EDM we have today
Correction Skrillex uses CDJs , also DJing is allot more complex then that trust me , it's all about how you mix and read the crowd Skrillex is very good at this check out his boiler set
Tinnyalla Well, when you only need a basic understanding of music fundamentals and a better understanding of software, plugins and peripherals in order to create music, then imo the final product isn't going to be that musical. I understand personal tastes and all, and to each their own, and that Skrillex has a talented ear for creating songs.....but master musicians spend thousands of hours learning to do what you could teach a 5 year to replicate on a computer in about 5 minutes. And the 5 year old would still have no understanding of what they created anyways or how it fits in or rejects the larger "music" picture.
It's cool to see Skrillex did this and doors decided to go along with it. Dubstep was very different and and alot of older people didn't like it. I think they just understood it was music and people are gonna enjoy it so let's have fun and make something.
I love how nervous you can see Sonny is in this old video, at the start it's like he's super worried he's just insulted his childhood heroes and influence, but as soon as the riff gets going and both parties get into each others groove it all works out for the best, he even goes out of their view to celebrate for quick moment. The idea of not only meeting your heroes but actually collabing with them is a giant leap and must have been terrifying since it's not only his heroes he'd be letting down if he fucked it up but his parents who introduced them to him as well, and this was like only a year or two after he became a big name. Glad he's back doing more stuff.
5:42 can we appreciate the fact that skrillex use motion capture device for his visual sets? also that creature from First Of The Year is breath-taking!!
to be frank, I felt energy through my body when the old man started hitting keys on the keyboard !! all Skrillex drums and bass didn't. those people are Music, adding color may bring them back to the young listeners . their originality and creativity is unmatched.
