Awesome! That midget that is on that picture is in my dad's shop. My grandpa raced that car after Vic Ellis did. He changed the number, but it is the same car.
Not even the original UPS scheme. Or the second one. Or the third... this was the 4th UPS scheme. EDIT: Wrote this after seeing the 51. That 68 is the second generation UPS scheme.
Yes, when I seen the two throwbacks, nostalgia hits me like a ton of bricks lol. I mean, the fact that Matt Kenseth and Dale Jarrett's UPS 88 are getting throwbacks is just crazy enough!
That Dinger throwback looked so fun. The best part was that Scott returned and every other logo was stylized to look like the different Kroger products that the original 2014 car had.
Extra meaning for the Johnny Benson throwback scheme for Carson Hocevar. JB has been mentoring Carson since he was around 12 or 13 when he started racing Late Models at Berlin Raceway in West Michigan.
That very specific midget that is at 18:41 is sitting in my dad's garage. My grandpa actually raced the same car some years after Vic Ellis. It is really cool seeing it being a throwback this weekend.
36:44 this design was made by my buddy Hershy, glad to see his work get some praise. He really deserves it for what he does and how much talent he has in design.
I think last year the 42 and McDonald's missed out on a big opportunity to do a throwback to Matt Kenseth and Bill Elliott at the same time with Matt's first cup start filling in for Bill at bristol car
I love how much effort most of these teams put into the schemes for this year's race. They showed a lot of creativity in the way that they were able to make their current sponsor's logo fit the logos from their throwback scheme.
When I saw those john andrettis, rich bickle and hot wheels throwback, I about had a heart attack♥️♥️♥️ my god this year is easily my all time favorite. Throwback year now
Hot Wheels was the sponsor on the Gurney and Swede Savage AAR Cudas in the 1970 Trans-Am series so it shouldn't surprise you if you know the history of that series
🤙🏽All three Nascar series on the "The Lady In Black" in Darlington. OH YEAH. Will be tuning in to FS1 network this weekend for sure. And best of all, all with "throwback" paint schemes. OH YEAH. Nascar still might have a future with the American race fans after all with this and the next Gen car (2022). It's going to be a huge weekend for of/for Nascar. Good job guys. Nice posting by you Eric, thanks. Love the #24 Valvoline car and the #43 STP car paint schemes. BTW where's the #3 Goodwrench car Mr. Childress? And how about the JJ48 Lowes paint scheme for the 48 car? Would love to see it. You gotta respect a seven year champion driver and sponsor. 🇺🇲/🏁 Stay well. Go in peace.
It would be super cool that the original sponsors that are still around, to sponsor their own throw back schemes for just this race. Very great vid Eric!
Missed a scheme in xfinity, or maybe it hadnt been revealed at the time. David Starr’s 61 was painted in honor of Modified Legend Richie Evans. One of his 1985 modifieds I believe, with the yellow stripes on the side.
Actually, Ryan Newman's is a throwback to the Wynnfurst Racing Team that was sponsored by Kohler. 1976 was the first of 6 SCCA Championships for owner/driver Jeff Miller. Wynnfurst still races today in the SCCA with Jeff's son Jason in a P1 car. Jeff and Ron Pace campaign the old Lola's in Vintage Racing. A very cool tribute to my hometown team! (Plymouth, WI)
The truck series has become so good not just with stuff like the throwbacks but some of the personalities and the show they put on everywhere they go excited to see them run Darlington!
Man, these throwbacks have been pretty fire for this year! Way better than 2020’s throwbacks! The Xfinity series and Truck series have been killing it with their awesome throwback ideas for this year at Darlington! The ones I like are Tyler Ankrum’s throwback, Kris Wright’s throwback, and Derek Kraus’ throwbacks for the Truck series. The ones I like from Xfinity are Brandon Gdovic’s throwback, Justin Allgaier’s throwback, Michael AnnettMs throwback, and Brandon Brown throwback! I also like the text on the back saying what can Brandon Brown do for you, that was really funny! I’ll do my top 5 list of my favorite and least favorite schemes for Darlington this year. Overall, great throwbacks! 😃👍
A lot of Mark Martin throwbacks in there, cool to see. I wish somebody would run the Mello Yello paint scheme again like Kyle Larson did a few years back, the black and bright green is a neat color combo.
It may have been a timing issue but you missed out on the Spire Motorsports throwback to Alan Kulwicki's ZEREX car. Far and away the best one this year, and the sort of thing that brings a tear to the eye of someone who remembers watching his first win (in that car) at Phoenix.
The truck throwbacks are awesome, the only thing they are missing is the 2x4 they use to put in the right door panel to help prevent from getting the DARLINGTON STRIPE........
I am loving the Mark Martin throw back to 2000 in the Busch Series Winn Dixie Flames car! I have the 1:64th and 1:24 scale die cast for all 3 of his Winn Dixie cars from 2000! I will have to add the one for this weekend to my collection! Was even at Homestead to see the Final Busch Series race that year. Also...I did not know it at the time, but I got Dale Sr. & Richard Childress to Autograph my Trading Card after the Cup cars had qualified! It is one of my prized possessions!
The DJ BMS 68 throwback is one of the most underrated throwbacks ever, and it's criminal that it was not offered. The Jeremy Clements one was nice, but the Brandon Brown one was just otherworldly.
Additonal meaning for Chase Elliott's Kulwicki scheme, #9 team manager Brian Whitesell was a mechanic on Kulwicki's team. Even drove the hauler, spotted for the team, and did the team's scoring. That includes being part of Kulwicki's championship winning crew.
That Erik Darnell truck has accurate number font. Rough never used the numbers 4 or 5 so they did a great job on the 5 and got as close as possible with the 4.
That Valvoline paint scheme is one of my favorite....Buddy Baker was the first who ran a version of it with the Wood brothers, then Neil Bonnett and Mark Martin.
I like Bubba's paint scheme in the color department because the light blue and orange really gets on me on the first glance. And Josh Williams' paint scheme looks rad with that rusty look. Justin Allgaier's paint scheme is also awesome, so does the 02 Goodwright car and the Talladega Nights one.
Imagine if Justin Haley's throwback was the Dave Blaney 77. I loved that car... Especially at Darlington. I'm sure u remember the Ricky Craven Kurt Busch race. But this one is cool too
I have a design and graphics background and really dig automotive design- came very close to going to school for it but wound up in Architecture. I would love to work on a project designing schemes for race cars & trucks.
30:45, I don't know which is more surprising: That RCA is coming back to NASCAR, that RCA has their big failure, The CED, on their website, or that RCA IS STILL AROUND. I thought they got absorbed into GE in the 2010s. Amazing. THEY EVEN GOT THE CONTINGENCY SPONSORS OMG THIS IS THE BEST SCHEME
