1:07:34 - Maurice Ravel : LA VALSE Nathalia Milstein, Piano July 5, 2017, Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Reims (Reims, France) Thank you - what a great concert...
Lovely to find this here, especially after having heard this artist just last week at Montpellier Festival in a programme with "Tombeau" but otherwise with Bach-Liszt, Prokofiev and Arzoumanov. I very much enjoy her supple playing and the gift of drawing the audience into her intimate narrative. I wouldn't call her a strongly "technical" player as there are many slips in detail, but prefer this to a clinical precision without soul, as too often is the case. "La Valse" and the Toccata of Ravel need further work to avoid a rather confused result, but there's much natural beauty along the way. The Chopin Mazurka group, (starting about 56.40), seems to have been omitted from the listing; pity cos it's among the most musically successful, even with minor slips (again!). Even when i have strong reservations, or disagreement, (in "Forlane" for example; too hesitant and with unrythmic pauses), i still enjoy her natural lyricism. An artist to follow with pleasure.
