I am sorry for the loss of John and I am also very sorry for the way this museum got torn apart ! IF THIS WAS a 501 c3 ( Non Profit) and the bikes were transferred to the "museum" then it would live on ! It is a very serious shame it got sold to pieces and no longer exists. Protect the long run ! It takes years and years to establish such great collectibles and it should have ALL been transferred to a 501 c3 and then at that point the Board of Directors would establish a continuum of sorts OR they could transfer to another 501 c3 that is established so that a great collection could NEVER BE TORN APART. DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN IF YOU HAVE A GREAT LOCATION AND COLLECTION !! DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN !!! VERY BIG SHAME TO SELL IT ALL OFF !

Was this the only bike museum in America? Couldn`t another museum(s) buy them all and keep them together?

Agreed! This museum was arguably one of the most complete collections of its kind this side of the world. I went last summer and I was behind a guy who was a complete jerk to the front desk. Telling her he was a part of a motorcycle club who had stuff displayed there on loan and demanded their stuff be recovered right away and not have to pay the nominal admission fee for him and his few guests to go through the museum to enjoy it for the day. What a tool!

Yes, sad . John should have donated all his bikes and building to a 501 c3 ( non profit organization) so that they would be in constant show and never sold and could be run and operated by a board of directors. Way too sad that they needed the money that much to tear down the history of the memorabilia and great collection. This should have NEVER happened. History over MONEY ! I guess someone needed the money !

It’s so sad to see a piece of Americana and all these old beautiful & innovative motorcycles locked away again in a private collection, gone from the motorcycle enthusiasts who appreciate them and many of these bikes that would inspire a new generation of motorcycle designers/ builders. It took years to gather these ground breaking bikes in one spot for People to enjoy. They’ll probably never be assembled in one place again for people to enjoy! Sad day in motorcycle history!

The Twingle (1965 Allstate SGS250) from this auction (1:00:00) has made its home with us. We have gone through it, replacing anything from gaskets to fluids to part upgrades and it runs like a dream. We knew nothing about Allstate until we got this little guy from the auction, learning along the way (it is actually an Austrian Puch in disguise). It is a super simple, dependable, utilitarian bike and has been a great project.

When museums do this, just be aware... it is super scuzzy... and I mean super scuzzy... because in a lot of cases the owners sold at a low ball price, or even at all, being told their museum would be in a museum forever. In many cases the owner wouldn't of sold at all, esp. rare bikes, to a private owner, but were talked into it because it was "going in a museum to be preserved forever". So yeah, I would boycott these kind of sales across the board. I saw it happen with the Bruce Weiner Microcar Museum. Real scuzball below the belt move by the museum owner. You never thought they would ever, ever be up for auction... because they were promised to... never be. Someone is breaking a whole lot of promises they made. Boycott this and all other museum auctions. But the museum is going out of business or the owner died, you say, what other choice do we have? Well, you should contact and give the original owner the opportunity first to buy back thee bike at the exact same amount they got for it when they sold it to the museum, because the museum is reneging on it's original promise. Only if the previous owner does not buy the bike back at the original price they sold it for, then can you go ahead and auction it.

Bought my first bike, 1972, a 71 350 Yamaha, still have it. Had a 750 triple, Special Yamaha. Now, have a 92 Vmax, 2 ,1800 vtxs' , a 1900 Raider, an 06 R1, and 2023 xr 150.I paid around $ 20,000.00 for the 3 v twins, and the R1. They are all gorgeous, and road ready. I Will probably never be in the Harley league. Rarely any bargains around for one that looks good, and road ready. Ride em all, at 66. Time for a clutch and back tire in the 04 vtx 1800, glad it cooled down a bit.

I bought a new 1973 water buffalo. Smooth as glass at 100mph more so than any bike I've owned. But handled like a buffalo and it was not quick. Sold it and bought an H2. Much better.

The wife and I left Michigan in May to see museum before it went to auction. Loved it and got verb emotional. I owned many examples, rode many more, taught motorcycle mechanics in early 70s, hated to see it go. Next trip will be to barber

The paint. The fit and finish. The suspension...wait, what? I'll gladly let somebody else ride a hard tail. The are display eye candy that's impractical for anything else.

Great show and auction Jack . Thanks for showing the bikes I use to ride , being 71 yrs. Old now ,can't ride now ,cause my legs go to sleep after a short ride .
