Im full blood native, i want to move to a big city so bad and spread awareness and network like this! I moved off the res in az in 8th grade. I was also the only native in my 8th grade class and thats when i first realized non natives knew natives existed. My history teacher talked about navajos in the war and said the language was gibberish.(im 3/4 navajo, grew up with the navajo language and 1/4 hopi, thus my last name). I was so shy, i didnt talk. (Culture shock for me) then i moved to SoCal, i LOVED it. Made lots of friends with polys. They should me their culture and food. I love them. I had a HARD rez accent lol Broken english af, people asked if i was japanese or british😂 If i ever move to ny, I'd love to spread awareness, network and perform. @@yashghetia6386 Many natives exist from Canada, Greenland, US, MEXICO, PERU, ECUADOR. A lot of "Latin American" countries have FULL blooded native americans but no longer identify with the culture and instead identify as Latino. Yes, there are those that are mixed (european or west african) , but plenty that are not at all. A lot of identities are somewhat washed away of their native culture -- even most filipinos who were once in tribes no longer identify with that.

I have always admired and loved Native American culture because it’s amazing and it’s tough finding native Americans who want to share that culture with you. I would be blessed if I met a Native American girl because the culture drives me to learn more about them. The culture alone is amazing and peaceful to me. I am hoping someday I’ll know more about it.

When she said she is from Peshawbestown MI I nearly fell of my chair! I grew up next to that reservation from 1970 to 1984 and went to school with natives, always destested how they were treated by some. Even though I appreciated living in a beautiful yet, at times, harsh area I never forgot that the land my great grandfather who was born in 1898 busted his tail for was stolen land essentially.

American is still a name by European Englishmen
@tiltingatentropy1215
@tiltingatentropy1215 2 года назад
This is a subject that has interested me for a long time. I want to ask a serious question and see what everyone thinks. Obviously in America's history European settlers committed horrible atrocities against the indigenous people. I've often heard people say that Indigenous people should have the land they were living on back because European settlers essentially booted them out so the they could implement private ownership of their lands. My question is this: how would we go about restoring their lands today? Essentially it would mean admitting that our country exists illegitimately and should therefore disband and allow native peoples to have their rightful land. And so following this philosophy forward I would have to assume that such a moral stance by extension would not only would apply to Native Americans but also to indigenous people the world over. This begs another question: how far back should one go? In the United States we can identify this point easily, but in other parts of the world it becomes more murky-- how does one define "indigenous" and which point in the long history of other parts of the world would be the time one would point to where the people occupying the land at that time would be considered the rightful indigenous people. The issue is essentially that virtually every current population in every nation on the planet were not the same people that were there at the time history started being recorded; often, if not always, locations have been conquered, occupied, and subjugated many times over the years. Which people from when should be considered the rightful owners and therefore be awarded the land? Basically the entire world is populated by people who were originally from somewhere else, and most of the time the prior occupants did not leave willingly. So in the opinion of someone who would advocate for indigenous rights, how should such a hypothetical restoration take place? How far back should we go? Who should decide how the lines should be drawn and which people groups should go where? I agree that war, conquering, and the taking by force of land that has been occupied for a long time from someone else seems wrong and evil. Yet it has been the way the world and people have organized themselves ever since human ingenuity and agricultural technology permitted staying in one place and setting up trade and relations with other people groups that did the same. How would it all work? What would be the right way to act on this moral imperative to more justly arrange the occupation of the earth's populated locations, and by whom? I'd be interested to know, because this practical problem has always perplexed me when I hear people advocate for such a course of action. Thanks.

They're doing it right. I'm always amazed how little Americans know about their own history and their own people. I never knew that you could meet someone telling you "I thought you were extinct ". To be honest I'm not very educated about native cultures in North America myself but I've always felt a lot of respect for them and I think that their connection to the earth and to the cyclic nature of life is something that we lack in today's society. I wish native cultures received more acknowledgment and representation, in the education system, in politics, in everyday society... like in New Zealand for example. Maybe one day. Don't give up hope.

@@dn2ze It's important to know about both. It's not like there is a limited amount of education, that only one of either can profit from. I don't think Native Americans lose anything by learning about POC history. I don't think anyone loses anything by learning about it. We can all learn from it and then we can and must expand it. There are also 2 Lenape nations in NewJersey-NewYork border area and in Delaware: Ramapough and Nanticoke-Lenii Lenape. I am happy that Americans exist today in the USA but I'm really unhappy at how invisible and unincorporated in our lives they are. Most Americans I know come from Central America and Caribbean areas and Mexico.

I’m a descendent of Catoneras, most-likely a Lenape woman but there are people who believe she was Montauk. She has lots of descendants and unfortunately our “diluted blood” contributes to the loss of land right for native New York peoples. I honestly didn’t even know Lenape still existed like that. I love that they’re bringing attention to this. Power to the People… NY will always be Native Land

Diamond part native American as well back! Just so everyone knows, the native Americans did not leave the island of Manhattan because it became overpopulated and colonized. The native Americans actually sold the island of Manhattan to European settlers. Just saying! Facts are facts. Coming from someone who has native American ancestry

I am from India (Asia) and as a kid I used to wonder why native Americans are called Indians? In India, very few things are known about them. Later I got greatly interested in their culture and history. Their cultures and beliefs and mythologies and history are the treasures for the world. In our country India , we have 22 official languages after independence from british. We Indians love our culture so much. Lots of respect to all the diverse cultures in the world and to the native American culture.

I WISH countries would make more effort to help revive these cultures and educate the rest of the country about it. Especially countries like Chile and Australia where they are so racist to natives it pisses me off. And like the native women in Canada whom keep getting murdered or just dissapear 😠.

The native americans are the most marginalized community in this country, their stories often overlooked by more popular stories of racism and underrepresented communities. Forced migration and Res life are a stain nobody wants to talk about. Like they said in this, non natives often believe they no longer exist. Rather than white washed and ignored, their culture and history should be embraced and acknowleged. Lenape in PA have no official organization due to the failure of the state to recognize them. I would love to see more native representation in the media and politics.
