Watching this from uk. Seeing and hearing safety is top priority but not one barrier protection around a hole baffles me. Awesome to see how the USA do things compared to us.

The fusing process if done correctly is easy. Everything is simplified as long as you do it correctly. People in the northeast and upper Midwest have cast-iron mains wich were put in before we had electricity. Thats what the problem is but its being replaced quickly.
@kevinmorrison7115
@kevinmorrison7115 7 месяцев назад
Safely yes. Quickly I’m not sure is the correct verbiage. I’ve been replacing cast iron gas mains in New York since 1979 and we still have Hundreds of Miles left to replace from 3” to 72”. Stay Safe All. 👍🍺🍻🙏

@@kevinmorrison7115 yes The process is now done by a large percent of the work force. It use to be contract crews during a certain timeframe. Now company has actual crews and contract crews working year round. Your correct that there still is many miles left but also areas showing many leaks. They are replaced quicker than in the past.

50 year life expectancy. Ya right. We got CI mains from early 1900's. Late 1800's. Boston area. They got their $$$$ worth out of it

The bead on the left is thicker then the right. Fusing irons Sometimes tend to heat up more on one side then the other. Probably wasn’t calibrated right. Or could be just the angle of the camera 10:35

Rene Agudo Looked like some hi-lo in there, and the lips were just a little too fat for my preference. But it looks like it would hold test just fine.
@chikinhawkxl

The bead has to be at least 1/8 in. And no bigger than 3/16.
@tacoswelding8411
@tacoswelding8411 Год назад
@@chikinhawkxl might differ state to state I’m not sure. I know this video is from another state but in So Cal both beads on 4” PE would have to be between 1/4” +/- 1/16” together. Our general guideline. There shouldn’t be much of a difference, if any on the thickness of both beads side by side That would mean your iron is hotter on one side

why arent they using the 4" rolls. sticks take too long
@tacoswelding8411
@tacoswelding8411 6 лет назад
nickk05281982 probably being used by another crew or something
@deepsix1306
@deepsix1306 6 лет назад
nickk05281982 Because the 4" rolls are a lot harder to manage physically, and manuever to get good straight fusions. As an inspector, I prefer to never see 4" rolls on a job at all. None of my contractors want to use rolls of anything above 2", which suits me just fine.
@certifiedyaminspector-dadd6224
Deep Six Worked as a foreman for years and never used a roll over 2". Ran 2000' of 4" main with straight sticks.
@deepsix1306
@deepsix1306 6 лет назад
Daddy SmokesYams Yeah, I've never actually seen the 4" rolls, But I've heard they exist. The foremen have told me they're a nightmare. I know they use 180mm in Europe that comes on a roll, which is around 7". But, the English aren't all there in the head.

@lesterludtke227 5 лет назад
@@jbc_8110 buttfusions are the only way to pull bored pipe the fusion os stronger then the pipe and you gotta have a weak link to pull back

LudtkeAquariums I’m not talking about that, that butt fusion will be cut out after the pipe is pulled through the bore
@lesterludtke227
@lesterludtke227 5 лет назад
Doesnt matter at all the buttfusions are stronger than the pipe I agree with you in the sense ig you're boring a shot why wouldn't you use coil to save time but regardless those fusions are solid

I did this in Manchester England for twelve years and I would have got run off the job for cleaning the pipe faces with a rag after trimming it and where are tents. All pipe welding is supposed to take place within a tent to minimize contamination from dust and rain etc. I can’t believe they filmed this. Unprofessional !
@tacoswelding8411
@tacoswelding8411 Год назад
Some use tents but not everyone. If it’s windy they would suggest it. That would depend on the gas company regulations if it’s required or not. (Yeah there will always be contradiction within construction) Different weather, different places. It’s crazy how rules will differ from location to location. In SDG&E San Diego we use alcohol wipes to wipe it down. In SCG so cal we use acetone wipes. Some places require rags. Some places frown upon using rags. Different soaps are used between different gas bases. Some use Palmolive dish soap to leak test and some use official leak testing soap for PE pipe. 👍🏼
