A one year update on my natural shell cordovan Viberg boots, size of our new passport/field notes holder, and some watch straps and wallets shipping out today. ashlandleather.com / ashlandleather / ashlandleather
I was actually just wondering about these! Love the way they look. I'm usually a proponent of absolutely NOT babying your leather. After a year though, I think it's due for a detailing though. Looking forward to that video if it gets made.
I'm ten months late but great looking boots, mine are coloure 8 and mine also have the same speed laces. I also have a couple pair of aldens but my viberg and aldens never hurt my feet. I'm going to look your wallets up. Love leather.
I love love love my several pair of Alden and one pair of Viberg. These Vibergs did not feel great on my feet initially. Quite uncomfortable for maybe a month. I was bummed out but I kept with them. Now I am noticing that they are getting more comfortable with each wear and they are one of my most comfortable pair currently.
Okay, Phil. What exactly is going on here? I literally JUST went through the video archive and found the original unboxing video for these boots two minutes ago and said “Huh. I wonder when he’s gonna do an update video on these?” 😂
I have several pair of Alden and Viberg boots in Shell, after every wear, they get a light wipe down with a damp cloth and a 1 minute brush and stored with a shoe tree - believe it's called the Mini Mac method, you want to keep the dirt off them and Shell loves brushing. Every year, depending on wear, light coat of Saphir Cordovan, let sit overnight, then a solid brushing - last you forever. And I agree, Vibergs are like tanks, have 3 pair of Shell Viberg and 3 pair of Shell Alden's, always damp cloth, brush after a wear, and they'll last you forever, patina will develop beautifully.
Great tips, Andrew. Thanks! I have noticed that a little moisture and brushing brings all of the luster and color depth back. Have you noticed that your shell boots continue to get more comfortable with each wear? These Vibergs seem to get more comfortable with each wear. The first three months were rough, though!
@@AshlandLeather I also wear shell in sleet, snow, rain, dirt, Shell was originally intended as footwear for Cavalry officers - Shell is a membrane, and highly durable and waterproof, far more so than normal leather boots and will stand up far better to harsh condition - you bought em, wear em! ;-) Also, on boots without a Danite sole, I've installed a rubber Topy and brass toe caps - Triumph makes the best in my opinion, toe caps protect the toe area of the sole, and they look fantastic. The Bourbon Shell and Mahogany Shell Vibergs I have feel great on the feet - Vibergs, in my opinion, are simply the best boot out there period. Vibergs are great for everyday wear to the office, casual affairs, same can be said for my 2 Burgundy and Cigar Shell Alden's...although I'd say Alden for more formal occasions. Look up the Mac method and the Lazy Mac method, I prefer Lazy Mac Method, and that's the way I've always kept my boots: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xXYRwx8dBDo.html
Phil hope all is well safe healthy. I just noticed you put your laces military way? Meaning left over right and right over left. I salute you coz I guess your the only one I have ever seen. I’ve been doing/taught this way from my grand dad. 👍
i completely agree with you Phil, leave those boots alone for at least another year or 2!! I believe the leather will "ask" when it's time for them to be conditioned. plus the aesthetic of these aren't inherently dressy, which is another factor that would prevent me from polishing them up.
I have a pair of Carmina shell plain toe blutchers, with double oak JR soles, same thing, these things are built like tanks and will surely last my lifetime. I would brush them with pig bristles for sure, maybe some pure polish shoe cream from time to time.
I think it’s better to use the Mac method on the shell. Just brush a lot and a little conditioner occasionally. For me I would also put a mirror shine on the toe and heel. Totally optional of course.
Shell boots - Please wipe down and brush for 30 min each boot. No polish. Hydrate the trim and then rub a light layer of clear wax to seal them. Brush to light gloss.
Richard Barnes don’t get into watches, shoes, boots or scotch. They are all rabbit holes that suck you in to find the best and keep them even better than new. Ask me how I know. #Alden #Omega, #Springbank, #Bruichladdich ...
Chrispiano Leao, too late! LOL. The only thing I don’t have is the shoes. Luckily I don’t drink much so no chance of Scotch either. #Rolex #AshlandLeather 😂😂👊🏻
I like a good yak hair brush for bringing up the shine on my Shell Daltons. When you say “trim,” which parts of the shoe are you referring to? I’d imagine Saphir Mirror Gloss would be good for that since it has very little solvents. Shell no likey solvents.
At least condition it, I like how it looks beat up instead of shiny and clean. I have 2 pair of Viberg service boots it took a while to break them in, but after that they fit so nicely and they're built like tank.
Not as often as I should. I've been rotating between these and grant stone dune CXL diesel boots for the last few months. Probably in trees 20% of the time.
I don’t own any Cordovan vibergs but I own 4 pairs of vibergs of different types of leather. My question is I don’t baby my boots, no brushing, no conditioning, but are shoe trees necessary? What are the cons if I don’t use shoe trees? Thanks in advance and that’s a dope pair of boots you have 👍
@@twincities651 I asked this question specifically to Wyatt from Grant Stone. The trees will help to keep the shape. Not too big of a deal. Here is the section of the video to watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lPgAPKfXzh4.html
