Nature is a place of spirituality for many, yet because of the climate crisis; nature as we know it is dying out. We’re watching life on Earth disappear right before our eyes. This loss of nature might make us feel like we're losing something essential to our humanity. Is there a correlation between our suffering planet and our spiritual despair? Let's learn how to create a better relationship with nature.

I’ve always been very fascinated with plants, and I’ve spent much of my life gardening as well as studying the different wild plant species out there. One of the first things I notice whenever I travel anywhere, is how the plants you see (both weeds and landscaping) are either similar or different to back home. Then I get to analyze what makes these plants more adaptable to their environment, etc. I get really excited when, say, this one really cool plant I’ve read about but never seen is just there in front of me. It really adds a new perspective, and it’s so weird sometimes to realize how little most people notice these things.

Humanity is part of nature, a species that evolved among other species. The more closely we identify ourselves with the rest of life, the more quickly we will be able to discover the sources of human sensibility and acquire the knowledge on which an enduring ethic, a sense of preferred direction, can be built.

About a year ago I moved from the low income neighborhood I grew up in to one in a rich suburb. I’ve been struggling with a sense of being able to connect with my new environment, even though it is objectively better, and ironically much closer to the local state parks. I think this video perfectly captures the disconnect I feel from this new place. I’d spent years finding the beauty in my old neighborhood, as ugly as it might be considered, but now have been ripped from my ‘nature’.

Excellent video, just a small correction about Natives and colonists. It was only the British, then Americans and then the newly independent Hispanic countries than sistematically wiped out Indigenous cultures. The first colonists (the Spanish) fused with the natives and learnt and standardized their languages for conversion and administration. That's why in the USA, almost everybody is white, natives are confined to reserves, and the most widely spoken native language there (Navajo) has only about 170.000 speakers. However in Mexico or Peru, people are mixed and millions of people speak their native languages. Nahuatl has more than 1 million speakers while Quechua is spoken by around 8 million people.

Please make a video about Magnetic Excursions :D (some info below) Sterno-Etrussia Excursion (±3000 years ago, lasted ±300 years): Late Bronze Age collapse (Hittites in 1178 BC, Mycenaean Greece in 1050 BC, the collapse affected a large area covering much of Southeast Europe, West Asia and North Africa, 300-year drought event), Indus Civilization collapse (1000 BC, experts don’t know why but think it was climate change and famine). Solovki/Noah/Sumerian Excursion (±6000 years ago): Nothing to do with religion, instead massive floods all over the world. Çatalhöyük Civilization collapse (flourished 9000-7000 years ago then suddenly vanished, experts don’t know why), surviving Sumerians came to Mesopotamia (5300 years ago), first city states (5000 years ago), Prehistoric Egypt (5000 years ago), massive advances in agriculture like irrigation, all known domestication of animals and plants (4500 years ago). Sumer was created (6500 years ago). Modern men's genes suggest that something peculiar happened 5000 to 7000 years ago, most of the male population across Asia, Europe and Africa seems to have died off, leaving behind just one man for every 17 women. The African humid period ended (6000-5000 years ago) during the Piora Oscillation cold period. Sahara desert reforms (5500 years ago). The missing millennia (6000-4000 years ago) a period with little evidence of human settlements in Southeast Asia, thought to be a megadrought lasting 1000 years. Personal opinion: this event was so brutal that barely anything was left from previous civilizations and destructive enough for religions to emerge saying the world was just then “created”. Myths may have been actual accounts, distorted and embellished throughout millennia. Gothenburg/Younger Dryas Excursion (±12,000 years ago): Global Mega-Faunal Extinction (remember the frozen Mammoths?). Following the event: Beginnings of agriculture (11,500 years ago), beginning of domestication through millennia of plants and animals, earliest monumental ritual art (11,500 years ago), earliest use of brick architecture (11,500 years ago), earliest continuous settlements (11,000 years ago). Personal opinion: all these sound more like "rediscoveries" rather than "beginnings/earliest", which gives an idea of how powerful the destruction was. Lake Mungo/Last Glacial Max Excursion (±24,000 years ago): Mega-Faunal Extinction mainly in Australia, Eurasia and Africa. Mono Lake Excursion (±36,000 years ago): Mega-Faunal Extinction mainly in North America. Interestingly, anatomically modern humans replace Neanderthals (±40,000 years ago). Leschamp/Napoli Excursion (±48,000 years ago): Global Mega-Faunal Extinction. Norwegian Greenland Sea/Gaotai Excursion (±60,000 years ago): Unknown effects. Toba Excursion (±72,000 years ago): Known as the greatest bottleneck in human history. Caused 1,000 years of volcanic winter. It is estimated that less than 10,000 people survived on the entire planet. (Do you think any tech would survive this? ;), just food for thought) Related Theories: Magnetic Excursion: To simplify, Magnetic Excursion are cyclical periods during which Earth’s magnetic field weakens (The geomagnetic field has been losing 30 percent of its intensity in the last 3,000 years and 10% over the last 200 years) and moves more erratically (it is suggested that depending on the cycle, the effect goes from small resulting in something like a year without summer up to a pole flip forward and back, depending on the cycle). The weakening of the magnetic field affects everything on Earth, from climate to genetics (cosmic ray and solar radiation). Micronovae: To simplify, the Micronovae is a Nova event but leaves most of the star intact, during which an external shell of a star is blown off (technically more like a coronal mass ejection but all around the Sun). This would cause sudden and severe climate catastrophes on Earth (global fires, earthquakes, storms, destruction of technology, disruption of agriculture, etc.). The build up to the event is a decrease in Sun brightness as the density on the outer layer increases (down to the brightness of the Moon, hence the “myths” of dark sun, the two moons and the three days of darkness). During the eruption, the solar system is full of dust which blocks the light of other stars and results in the apparent disappearance of all other stars (hence the “myths” of falling stars, dark skies, possibly the three days of darkness and when the stars start reappearing it is the “rebirth of the universe in 7 days”). Recurrent Nova: Same as Micronovae but occurs cyclically. There are stars which have a recurrent nova cycle as small as 9 years (ex: RS Ophiuchi).

When I was a kid/teen, my peers used to look down on the nature surrounding us, thinking it was dirty or that the urban animals were trashy. So I never appreciated it before. But now as an adult, I find so much beauty in the smallest things. I am lucky to live in BC and have a garden at home and live near a patch of bush that is filled with small creatures. I don't even have to leave my yard to experience beautiful sights. I love insects and birds the most and it's not hard to find them thriving around here. And I don't live in a place with giant trees and trawling plants... my area is a new development, I'm more jealous of older neighborhoods who have huge old trees that cower over houses and their backyards lead to the forest, a lot of suburbs have that. Even on the side of the roads where wildflowers and weeds grow, I find beauty and something to look at. All you need to do is have a garden and don't put pesticides, creatures will come visit.

Firstly let me just say that I absolutely love your channel and I think your content and your opinions are so on the mark it’s uncanny almost like we think alike. I do agree we need to save our planet but we need to do it rationally and transition slowly towards what is feasible and sustainable. I do not believe in the apocalyptic visions of the Greta Thunberg‘s of the world. However our spiritual chaos has very little to do with nature and more to do with the fact that many people have turned their backs on religion and on God. Atheism and this rampant belief in treating science as the new religion is the reason that there is so much spiritual chaos around the western world. When you believe in nothing , you’ll fall for anything. Buildings are getting uglier artwork is getting uglier because there’s no spark of the divinity, there are no more Leonardo da Vinci‘s or Caravaggio‘s or architects like Antonio Gaudi or Palladio. Mankind has really only existed in his present form for about 6000 years give or take. And throughout those 6000 years every single culture has had a belief in the divine and to be more precise the culture which was born out of the holy Roman empire owes its success the originating principle of the scientists who we’re all believers and were trying to unlock God‘s plan in the world. Men from Copernicus or Johannes Kepler even Isaac Newton. We Are in great peril one we willy-nilly throw away thousands of years of Judeo Christian traditions and belief, because there are other religions out there that are believers and do not share our western values and they are growing , they are conquering …just remember what happened to Constantinople. And they were believers imagine what will happen to those of us who do not treasure the sacred past of our ancestors and our sacred traditions. More than spiritual chaos eventually the west will be overrun, and what may come may not be so appetizing. And lastly those who would conquer Christendom do not give a furry rats behind about the environment or women’s rights or any of the other issues that trouble us today. But I thank you for your amazing content I just wanted to give you a historical perspective on why we are in the spiritual chaos that continually plagues us, it goes much deeper than the forests are the trees. We need to return to our spiritual roots and traditions and value them as much as other religions do their‘s.

To be honest this view of nature and society is highly dependent on where you are from. I encounter what you've called 'nature' where i'm from regularly if not everyday. Its my neighbor.

Nature is where we're from. We need everything for everything's survival period. Nature has just much right as the stupid human. Everything should be treated equally. It breaks my heart that not one mother f***** even gives a s***. Nature can't defend itself and we should protect that. most should be ashamed of themselves, but for all my ppl that do give a s*** , thank you. Don't matter what ppl think because all and all in the end without nature we're all f*****. Have a good day.

I agree with the thesis statement of this video, but almost everything else stated seems to have nothing to do with the point-and the criticisms directed at finding meaning or solace in a walk in wild woods seem to be there only to hook the audience with a controversial perspective, when ultimately they have no payoff or connection to the conclusion. A forest is still better than a park; this video says that's not true, but then gives no explanation to support that claim; just because a park is still a valid example of nature doesn't mean it doesn't pail in comparison to one where there is wilderness as far as the eye can see, as opposed to hearing the rumbling engines of deadly metallic horses every time you try to have your picnic in peace. If society is actively trying to push out every molecule of non-Party-approved morsels of nature from its environment, then yeah, I'd day 'the world outside our front door' gets pretty cheap, non-spiritually-fulfilling, and disconnected from the global system of life-we're not quite there yet, but we're getting closer to this artificial dystopia with every passing hour. Perhaps this video would have had some merit 200 years ago, when the ground was still soft and the wolves were a stones throw away from the village's edge. I agree that a pigeon in a park tree and a backyard cicada bunch are still 'nature', but they are simply the cracks in society, the bits of wilderness that have been allowed to or by accident remain. True, unobstructed nature (now I don't mean untouched by humans, I mean untouched by bleach and cement), will always be superior to a city where the dirt has been painted over with tar and the air with poison-in which the very stars that define our night sky have been wiped clean from the canvas of our darkest hours. No matter how many acorns the janitor forgets to sweep off the office floor-the forest has always ten thousand more.

I come "HERE" because its refreshibg to watch a younger soul ponder the "WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE and WHY of THINGS",😎😎😎 But,.... From an older soul,.... Keep in mind.....its just "THINGS" I mean,.... Had YOU not "PONDERED" them, would they have carried such import?❤😁😘😎 This ends lesson ONE, welcome to "Co-Creation 101"😎 (Edited for spelling, which was poor due mostly to beer, and yes, I orefer BEER over spelling ....and math,.... and conversation too now that I think about it) * Feels like I missed something*
