Stupidest feature mike wang ever implemented. The whole ban thing needs to be removed. Ppl paid $70.00 for their game, they can play full game or quit if they decide to quit for whatever reason, lag, stupid teammates, heading off to work or whatever and not worry about getting banned.

Reason I keep playing 2K is literally the only realistic virtual basketball experience.

If anyone is down 30 or more points, they should be able to quit without penalty imo

2K kick me out twice back to back ended up with 120 minute band and on top of that I lost my Hall of Fame status

The randoms that sell never get kicked from the game tho.

2K not having a reconnect feature is nuts for a game in 2024. Multiplayer games created 2009 been had that shit. That would dead the whole conversation about a legitimate disconnect versus a false one (dashboarding for example). 2K just has too many incompetent devs and a fan base that’s dependent on them to enjoy their favorite sport virtually.

I don't agree with random players being able to vote anyone out when you can have players icing the teammates out, then vote to kick them when all they have to do is pass the ball around. too much power. I think they should come up with a way when a player is out of bounds too long are not guarding their man within a certain time frame that their grade drops dramatically and faster as they continue not guard anyone. seems like a remember when games did that.

I don’t feel like they should have a banned system nobody wants to play with ball hogs players that’s selling or just trash players that’s call force play what they’re doing

I hate when my homies get kicked so we back out and instead of it saying I was banned , it kicks me out of the next rec game we join with like 1 min left in the 4th quarter and then it says I’ve been banned ☠️☠️

If I’m working on a build or doing a rec quest I’m not quitting blowout games lol. Hell I can go on runs with 4 AI’s

A reconnect function would be nice. That way if you error code or the power goes out you still have a chance to join back without getting banned

A mercy rule sounds like a good solution. They can put in a bar showing the losing team how close they are to forfeiting due to score. Almost like the street ball one.

Skill based matchmaking should be in the game.

Also 2k definitely knows the difference because the game is literally saying “Error code” the devs are just lazy I’ve seen way more ambitious game have servers up to 100 players there is no way we struggling to put 10 to 6 people in games and maintain a connection

I've dropped an entire color several times over being kicked or when the team quits its crazy.

One thing that’s incredibly important is they need to allow quit-outs in private matches. Nobody plays them for rep or overall or badges. It’s comp proam when someone gets up big or lags out, we should be allowed to close app. It has messed up leagues across the proam scene all year.

I've played about ~500 rec games this year across all seasons and have only backed out of a game one single time (had to take care of IRL obligations). This last week (thursday-saturday) I have gotten errors during gameplay on 4 different times and due to it got a 60 minute ban. 2K server code has been awful for almost decades at this point, it's embarrassing for a company of their size and stature.

2K needs to let you vote ppl out who are afk or purposely turning over the ball. The ban system is needed not how 2K has it. It should be if you show toxic behavior and quit. Also an implementation of being able to join back a game you was booted from.

I would like to say as an electrical engineer with experience in networking the solution to this isn’t simple. For 2k, all they can see is that there was a disconnection caused by something on the console end of the network communication and not 2k’s. It’s the same with phone services as well. The is no indicator showing what was the reason for the disconnection. Only that there was a disconnection. This is more so a console issue than a 2k issue. Consoles would have to have a message sent back to the 2k servers to let the system know what the cause of the disconnection is. This who make it easier to implement a correct ban system. I will say that this does not excuse the terrible servers used to run the game by the 2k devs. These serve really haven’t been updated or changed for years, and that is also apart of the error code issue. It’s crazy how games like Fortnite, cod, apex, etc don’t have these same network issues when there is way more rendering needed and other cinematic effects going on in the background while playing. The games even have a significantly larger player capacity than 2k. 2k makes just as much money as these other titles yet refuses to provide better quality servers

You can fix the issue of quitting easily by offering rep increase based on teammate grade despite losing. Or at least no loss of rep if you maintain an A grade. Or offering at least 5000 VC for good sportsmanship in not quitting combined with an A grade. People will stay on

Finally someone speaks on the banning system. I got banned 30mins after my whole team lagged out. They wanted me to play with 4 AI’s 🤦🏾‍♂️ and definitely need a 20pt blow out mercy rule.

Only issue with mercy rule is the stats, we blow out teams by 15 pounts in the first on the regular, even if you display stats per 20 it still wouldnt matter because its usually 1 clown who doesnt play D and give up 6 threes in a row in the corner. That guy would get massive inflated stats while everyone else did nothing. If you dont count the stats then the game samples would be low because 90% of the games probably would be mercied

The community basically builds the game at this point. We need to get paid!

Mike Wang needs to be fired if 2k wants any hope of being a better game. These developers are lazy and 2k is dying. They want to make it too realistic and it's not working. They should have female my players in the park by now. They should give us walk on rec where you can wear anything you want on the court. Keep match making rec and give us walk on rec as well.

I think, to keep people from quitting, let's separate progression for seasons and player upgrades from rep. Win or lose, make season and player progression at a minimum number. For instance, u get 1000 xp toward seasons and player upgrading just for finishing the game. U can gain a little more based on how u do statistically ,but not more than appx 1500. Then have the rep system run on a separate progression, which is the same as we currently have. U can also have the mercy rule right around a 30pt differential. Lastly, if someone quits or disconnects, dashboards, etc , allow that person to log back in and take back control of his character. If they don't return at all, then use your penalty system as is, but if they do, they receive no penalty. This could be a problem if u get an error code just before the end of the game, so the only way to fixing would be to allow them to quit without penalty as long as it's after the start of the 4th qtr. Honestly, by the 4th qtr, most people's concerns with the current system are minimal. This is the best idea I could think of in just a couple minutes, but if 2k wanna hire a brutha, I'm sure I could come up with something better, if given time.

MAYBE UNPOPULAR OPINION: Add a vote to kick option for the sellers that wanna stand in the paint and out of bounds or not play defense because they didn’t get to take 30 shots 🤷🏾‍♂️

A mercy rule or forfeit feature is necessary as well. Starting from the 3rd quarter you should be able to forfeit. If someone disconnects, you should have the option to forfeit as early as the 2nd quarter. In casual game modes like park and rec, you lose nothing extra. In ProAm game modes, you should lose more towards your status. Simple fix but Mike Wang has been horrible at his job since online multiplayer became bigger than offline play.

30 is good. My team and I have come back from 20 down and won on multiple occasions.

I wouldn’t have a problem with people quitting as long as the winning team gets FULL rep and performance. Even double rep for a team quitting.

The ban system is just like the shot timing variable. Applaud 2k for trying to find solutions but their solution end up hurting more than helping

What they need to do is take a page from FIFA and allow you to pick your position before finding you a match. They also need to not allow a game to start with an AI in the lobby and stop allowing people to leave a lobby because they don’t like the plate colors they see. Sure, they can still close app, but it’ll deter people from backing out as much and get games going faster. There definitely needs to be a heavy penalty for quitting a game, only if they can figure out how to determine the difference between a quit and an error code.

I've come back from a 30 pt deficit. I don't think a Mercy rule is needed. We cannot be forced to play with players you do not want to play with in random rec. They should add a vote to quit system once the majority wins then it ends the game

I feel like they just need to take the ban away. Playing with terrible teammates is just as bad. I’ve had the random kicks as well, expect it’s always 4th quarter with 2 min. It’s crazy

The game matchmaking isn’t smart enough to prevent mirror matches though. I despise mirror matches so either allow us to see what team our opponent picks or allow us to quit mirror matches no penalty

I think a forfeit system should be implemented for blowouts while the bans should be reserved for players that quit alot. Like for ex. 30 min ban for 5 quits in an hour, 60 min ban for 10 quits an hour etc.

I could’ve sworn they had a mercy rule in one of the patches on 2k23, I don’t know what happened to it but I vividly remember one of my matches being ended because the opposite team forfeited the match.

Mercy rule will have to establish these parameters Loosing team priority: if there is more AI on loosing team Winng team get the voting function. 30 plus points of winning for function to enable. Voting has to be all live players and must be a unanimous decision for the haters and people who sabotage comebacks

I’m not opposed to a mercy rule if a squad is down 30+ by half time. They should have an option to forfeit with out being banned. But players who are throwing the game and helping the other team should get banned for sure

2k needs a skill based matchmaking system for the rec. Especially if you can’t find more than 3 friends to run with. You always end up matching up against a full on 5 stack team full of goat status players. And thats how you get people constantly quitting all the time.

You have to remember this is 2k, they don't care about the experience they care about money. In old 2ks when you close app or get lagged out you don't use boosts. I know in comp tournament people just buy 1 boost for a tournament and when the game is determined they just close app and save the boost. I know tons of people in rec who would quit just to see boosts. They didn't add bans to keep people in games to help yhe experience, it was to force people to use boosts and spend vc. They just need to add in the boosts get taken at the start of the game and not then end and that should at least help

4:56 - 25 to 30 points should be the mercy rule. But what they should also do is preserves your boosts until the game ends. If you win 3 blowouts in the first quarter then you’d lose three games worth of boost and didn’t even play 3 full games

The ban is also dumb for play now . If you get a mirror match or the ‘17 warriors while playing with the Jazz and you close app, you can get banned lol

2K is so lucky there aren't more demanding and knowledgeable basketball fans out there. They have been coasting in so many aspects for at least 5 years.

maybe a surrender system? lots of games have a voting system that works with 4 people vote yes (or the majority so 3-1 if someone quits) and the game surrenders. I think that would be a lot better than the current options and giving people the option to quit if the game is genuinely unenjoyable. plus add the mercy system and a better way of the game understanding the difference between a game error and a quit. the game should create logs it should just be able to check for, and if an error log was created that coincides with a regular game error (not a close app error) then don't issue a ban. seems like simple solutions 2k would rather ignore with a massive team.

What about the people they use the old timeouts? Sit out of bounds on purpose causing turnovers put in the whole team in a bind and then quitting...

My entire team quit and left me with 4 AI. Instead of closing the app and quitting I intentionally fouled out and got banned for quitting anyway.

25 is to low it has to be 40 points. We spanked a team by 25 in the 1st quarter.

The mercy rule would be a great addition if the team that’s getting blown out can vote on it if not there won’t be any room for a come back cus I’m more than sure there’s teams out there who are capable of coming back down 20-30 in a quarter

Ive been banned for walking into locker room and backing out. Not having game start literally walked out locker room. Got banned. Been banned for error codes multiple times.

There really is literally no reliable way to tell the difference between a genuine network issue and purposely closing the app or pulling the network cable. This is on the people who chose to quit out this way in the past, not on 2K. Gotta pick your poison, either you wanna have people quit with no consequence or you wanna stop people from quitting out. When you drop off a server, the server can't tell why you disconnected in a way that can distinguish between pulling the network cable and a genuine network issue. We asked for this by quitting out using these tactics without thinking about how 2K would have to correct it.

Just let ppl quit, no one should be forced to play when they don't want to anymore, it's also like you said not fun for the winning team to be stuck with one player in the opposing team just playing bots. Just call it a forfeit if more than two players quit, and call it a day. No more bans, they can't get that right.

The mercy rule should require the winning team to accept it too not just allow the other team to leave if the winning team still wants to finish the game for whatever reason but it should have to be accepted by both teams in my opinion

If my team is winning, and my system cut off, I shouldn’t get banned for that. Especially at the end of fourth quarters I should be able to rebottled that that should be an improvement on their banding system if they choose to keep it.

On the topic of blowouts.. maybe the rec should be treated like a rec game and not comp. 5 stacks looking to try their hardest should play pro-am. Rec was meant to just play casually. Rec is just full of exploiters that all do the same thing. Pg’s become dribble gods for 20 seconds and Jack a three. Post centers drop step or hook shot from free throw or just exploit rebounds and open fastbreak. All the while the role player teammates spam X or square with their 95 plus steal. The game has gotten boring.

They should just add R6 (Rainbow 6 Siege) quitting rules. If you lag out you should be able to join back in. If you are getting shit on, your team can vote to surrender, etc.

Definitely have a mercy rule one game we went on a 35-4 run in the 1st quarter , the game was over at that point and we were hostages because the other 3 quarters were boring for everyone. Just make an unranked and ranked mode . You can freely quit without penalty in unranked and less blowouts will happen in ranked due matchmaking and ban people that quit too much in ranked.

Split the baby. Before teams would back out when down 10, lots of people would say 25 should be the "Blowout Rule". I would make down by at least 15 at the end of the quarter the "Blowout". Between quarters, the losing team gets a pop-up asking if they want to concede the game or continue (majority rule). If they concede the lost, everyone gets the accrued VC, skill, rep whatever they have earned up to that point. If they decide to continue, they have to cut the lead to single digits by the end of the next quarter. If they do not, then it's an automatic blowout win but the losing team gets nothing. I think that would incentivize the losing team to make a genuine effort to play should they decide to continue. If they decide to continue and THEN quit out, that's where the ban comes into effect.

Adding a mercy feature is kind of pointless in a 10 user rec game cause not everyone is going to be on the same page...there are some players who are having a good game that would like to play all the way through to make there stats look better

I'm fine with the Ban System. As long as they can tell the difference between someone actually quitting and someone being kicked by their servers.

2k24 is the hardest by far when it comes to maintaining status or color , to much shit we have to deal with , shitty match making , silly lag outs , It is totally frustrating bro!!!!

I’ve been playing MyTEAM every year since 2k19 and in MyTEAM this year when you quit out it will give you a warning the first time and the last he second time WITHIN A 24hr PERIOD, it’s a 30 mins ban. If you continue to quit out in the 24 hr window the ban continues to get longer. But if you don’t quit again within that period of time it will reset 24 hrs after your last quit.

What they really need to fix is the bumps. But mercy rule sounds like a great idea

Mercy should have to be agreed by both squads and 1 team up 30 in 2nd half. I’ve came back from 20-25 especially if it’s early.

The only place that should have an insta ban if you quit or log out is if 2k had a ranked mode, other than that there should be a mercy rule just in case.

You can definitely tell the good players don’t play this game anymore.

They should make lobbies/matches like R6. If you lag out mid game or leave mid game, you have until the end of the game to return or else you get banned. If you lag out before the game, the team has the opportunity to cancel the match. Mercy rule is great. Time is too precious.

I agree with the 25 point Mercy Rule, but to add on to your suggestion, you need to maintain a 25 point lead for 2 mins. If the apposing team cuts the lead to 24 the timer resets. I think this is good because one of my favorite wins of this year was my team coming back from 30 points down.

Don't call it a mercy rule, they need to have a surrender option in the menu. Majority vote pulls the surrender into effect. Also a vote to kick button for random rec would be a great addition too.... Way to often we match with weirdos that just cause turnovers and don't play defense to troll.

For me banning should be back for those who do it at the end of the game. Some are doing it so they won't get L on their record. That's a selfish and unsportsmanlike conduct. But for those before halftime due to some toxic and bad teammates, those are acceptable.

I have a small dog and i have a power strip on the ground with all my gaming equipment on it and at night i was playing pro am 3v3 with my freinds we were on a winning streak and it was our game for our team to have 100 wins then he stepped on the power strip got banned for 30 minutes reset to bronze teir from gold teir and got off for the night

They should do it to where the person can join in or a new person can join in and replace that person but obviously with the positionings it’s probably gonna be complicated but if they take the time to Inc. it The possibility of you being stuck with an AI is a lot shorter doesn’t change the fact that somebody might quit, After joining, but it does reduce AI or keep the AI, but that person has to wait until the game is done before joining back or attempt to rejoin back something along. Those lines would be cool.

Thursday it was raining and thunderstorm power went out for some people. I still had power but then it went out. I went back to try to get back in rec center. They gave me a 60 minute band. I don’t think that’s fair if you dealing with weather issues or any issues that you have no control over

Honestly I think rec should only be random. If we want to play 5v5 it should be in the pro am. I feel like players playing 5v5 and having a record they don’t want mess around with us the way to minimise the quitting.

AlsoI think a ranking system between 1-5 (1 being very bad teammate, 5 being amazing teammate.) would be very productive. I believe it would stop people from quitting games because they can receive a low score and be placed in similar lobbies with others that quit and have a bad teammate score. Everyone would want to play their best because they wouldn’t want to be in lobbies with those kind of people just saying 🤷🏾‍♂️

I guess this is the one single thing that PC is better for. We can just alt+F4 and it doesn't register as quitting.

Adding vote to kick would easily be abused by squads. If anything, vote to kick should only be an option if they’ve gotten a certain amount of violations in a row. Not fouls, but offense player out of bounds, techs, 3 seconds, etc… Mercy rule would be perfect, but it has to be high enough that a team could still come back within reason. I’d say down 35-45, throw up a vote for the team. Also, if you don’t implement bans, people will just quit after going down 10, missing shots, or just not having a perfect game. A huge chunk of the 2k community hates adversity, and will take any opportunity to quit. 2k would have to figure out how to tell disconnects from quits, but even then, people would still trick the system by unplugging and shit. Lastly, AIs are simply too good overall. At least the ones you load in with if you’re short a person. Perfect defense, perfect shooting, even contested. They don’t need to be nerfed, just toned down a little.

I think the ban system should stay but allow a player to quit if they're losing by 25 or 30 points and yes you should receive everything you'd get in a win.

It’s still tough and 25 point lead may not be enough. I’m sure you and plenty of others, myself included have had games where you will be down because you have a trash pg or player on your team and once they quit it’s not difficult to come back from even a 25 point lead. Or in some instances you and your team just lock in and end up coming back. Those games are actually fun when the comeback happens. Would hate to lose that experience. Not sure how you would balance that.

It’s a tough balance because there has been less quitting because of it. The ownership needs to lie with 2k though, we keep getting punished because of it. This is what I mean, instead of an anti cheat that they’re being cheap about, we are penalized by weird random shot timings. You also get banned because you’re graded out. So if I cause you to turn the ball over as a lock, and you grade out, you should be punished by a 30 minute ban for quitting? 2k needs to be able to identify the difference and we the consumer need to stop being punished by their lack of efforts
