I know some will go crazy with anger over tis but me personally minus the fact Malone had far more longevity to his career, in their primes I consider Charles Barkley a more dominate player. This isn't a condemnation against the Mailman, Barkley imo was a more dominate player, he also didn't have the luxury of having John Stockton throughout 90% of his career.

I only had the opportunity to see Barkley play once in person. What stood out to me the most was that while everyone else was in the locker room pre-game (about 30 minutes prior to tipoff) Charles was alone on the court and he spent ten minutes doing two things: 1) schmoozing with the refs--who were cracking up with whatever he was telling them and 2) practicing his free throws. Never saw another player do anything similar and thought it was a brilliant part of his game....he already had a built in advantage from this simple pre-game strategy. And for his size, he was incredible and until they changed the rules (you can only have your back to the basket for five seconds if you have the ball) he was totally unstoppable in the post--he just kept backing down the defender then turn around for a two foot shot. Truly an all-time great player and competitor.

Lifelong Nuggets fan!!! A N D Charles Barkley is my favorite NBA player ever. Alex English (only 1 to score 20k in the '80s) is 2nd.

I'll never forget a game I saw back in the early 90's with Barkley. The Bullets (before they became the Wizards) were playing the 76ers in Baltimore and had a comfortable 14 point lead at halftime. Barkley only had around 7 points for the half. Second half they basically put the game in Sir Charles hands and the 76ers won by 4--Barkley finished with 32 points. Wes Unseld--(who was the HC of the Bullets back then)--was quoted as saying: "When he makes up his mind to score nobody can stop him." That quote is the perfect summation of how good Barkley was in his peak years.

I remember liking him and hating him. What I can not deny in either of my feelings towards him is that he was an amazing talent to watch play. If shooting socks in the hamper had you yelling out "Jordan!" Then, moving through a crowd of people or overpowering anything had you yelling out "Barkley!" He was, the other side of fame, hype, and highlights to Jordan. Imo. Far greater than Shaq as a player imo.

As Grant Hill eluded to, people forget just how damn good he was. My all-time starting 5 power forward (MJ, Magic, Bird, Barkley, Shaq).
@respectedlocalgentleman7108
@respectedlocalgentleman7108 2 года назад
We remember exactly how good he was. He was in the Clyde Drexler, Dominique Wilkins, Isiah Thomas world of being incredibly good, just not quite inner circle, best of the best, good. McHale was his superior at PF in the 80s and Malone was his superior at the position in the 90s. Shawn Kemp, conversely, had more star power and athleticism, which is all the NBA has given a shit about post becoming a marketing front for Nike in the late 80s.

I watched him throughout his NBA career starting at Auburn U. Pound for pound the strongest, toughest NBA player, zero fear, while he struck fear into opponents. People asked why he didn't win a championship ring, well when you have to go through the Celtics stacked teams with Larry Bird, a stacked Detroit team with Rodman, Lambier, John Sally, and eventually those Bulls and Knicks teams of the 90s, it was hard sledding for Sir Charles. He is in my top 3 PFs of all time and the player I pick first for that position over Tim Duncan and Karl Malone. Stockton, MJ, Bird, Hakeem/Shaq and Malone/Barkley. "My Dream Team"

We were as shocked as Zeke when "The Round Mound of Rebound" hit the floor, BUT when that game started Barkley was punishing the floor ESPECIALLY on those Fast Breaks!! We football players, at that time, called a big stomach "An out of season Beer Belly". Gotta sweat it out! Barkley definitely showed my Beer Belly Buddies and Myself how to elevate Our game in the paint and Forwad position on "The Black Top" as BIG Guys. 🤜🏿🤛🏿-LAKERS'80-

There is a statistic, I think it's field goal porcentaje, he's like the third or fourth all time, and the only one under 7 foot, the only one not a center, he also missed a lot of threes, had he not tried that many, he's porcentajes would be better, also one of the few that the league changed rules for. Awesome character

Because he was a shorter 4 it could be argued he probably had the best handles of any power forward. He would grab a defensive rebound and run it up the court coast to coast and slam it. He was amazing

MET SIR CHARLES TWICE, ONCE IN MY HOMETOWN CHICAGO AND HERE IN PHOENIX, VERY NICE GUY HE WAS. HE PLAYED WITH MY UNCLE EDDIE JOHNSON IN HOUSTON AND GAVE MY UNCLE PROPS IN HIS HALL OF FAME SPEECH. I LOVED WATCHING CHARLES PLAY AND MAN WAS HE DOMINATING IN THE NBA! WISH HE COULD HAVE WON A RING BUT UNFORTUNATELY HE RAN INTO MJ AND PIPPEN AND WE ALL KNOW THE OUTCOME OF THAT BUT I TOTALLY ENJOYED WATCHING CHARLES PLAY. TERRIFIC PLAYER.

Way back I was trying to get better at ball. I was an undersized forward and a hefty lefty. Long story short, I watched Charles play and I knew that was the style i needed to copy. I became elite after I changed it up. Charles had an explosive rocker step when facing up a defender. I borrowed that move and got alot of buckets. Thanks Chuck 😁👍🏾
