Grant Hill is in the hof not Penny and rightfully so. That's not how the hall of fame works. Injuries are the unfortunate part of any sport, you can't just put players in the hof that had injuries, sharp declines and shortened careers due to injuries, the hall of fame is merit based on achievements, stats, accolades ect..

As much as I love him, I don't know if his baseball IQ was high enough. It was good, but similar players who became grounded and lost their athleticism learn to play on the ground and not depend on their athleticism. Even Jordan after 96 was more of a cerebral player and no longer a high fly act.

That may be true but Kobe was a vicious killer and that's all I have to say. Injuries happen in all sports so that's very unfortunate but Kobe got results. 5 time Champion. 7 times in the finals.

@@CommieKilla1977 ...Jordan didn't have the handles that Hardaway had...Jordan was graceful with his moves, but Penny much more fluid. Jordan was stronger, but that was mostly his advantage over Penny. Penny was a pure playmaker, but could score. Jordan still the goat though.

Prime Penny was no joke and he was awe inspiring to watch go to work. A competitive killer the likes of Kobe and MJ. Hell Yeah Penny would be in the Top 10 perhaps even top 5 had the injuries not derailed his greatness. He really was that dude in his prime. Everyone knew he was special and most NBA fans believed he was destined for the hall of fame. Unfortunately he did have those career altering injuries and I feel robbed as a basketball fan to not have had more Prime Penny to look back on.

Penny was Amazing. MJ even played in a pair of Penny shoes the only player shoes he ever put on in a game other than his own. That alone speaks volumes. The only player I seen put it on MJ like that without using MJ own moves against him.

No other ball player can really do MJ but they might get a few moves off on him if they are talented like Allen Iverson did with the crossover or how Kobe use to try to use MJ moves on him. Ja Morant is the closest thing we have seen to Penny Hardaway since the 90s and he's really not even close yet. Penny had such great length and athleticism and mad hops. He played absolutely fearless. He's the smoothest player to play not named Jordan. He was like running water on the court and he could power dunk on absolutely anybody in the league. Penny is a legend and every young player would be well served in watching his highlights. Thanks for the memories. Great video.

What i liked about Penny was his unselfishness. He had the skill to average 30 points per game but he wasn't the type of player who would jack shots after shots, that's why his teammates love him. He's able to lead the 99 magic team to the best record in the East with unknown teammates and he just came back from injury. Sad to say after that when he went to the Suns it all went downhill.

I mean seriously mate, what's the issue here? I'm sure he has plenty of regrets, but becoming a well liked player with a deep bag and among the most athletic people on the planet (nba all-stars) is not one of them. Teaming up with one of the league histories biggest freaks and getting to finals with such an inexperienced roster..within first few years? I really doubt it was a "waste of time". I remember when I was like 14, 15, I was learning how to play the game and I patterned my passing by the way I use to see him make passes and that became one of my strengths. All thanks to him. If he didn't get injured, who know what could've been. Ahead of his time, indeed, but he was one of a kind that he stood in his own lane and couldn't be compared to anybody. Kobe and the likes. Penny was wickedly sick on the floor. He had size, ball handle, floor vision, speed, power, good shooter, great defender, and a very high basketball IQ, and a natural leader on the floor with great rapport with his team mates. Very few players can be said to have... "THE TOTAL PACKAGE", Penny did! His career and full potential was not achieved because Knee and other injuries start setting in right at his Prime, but the guys tallent in his youth on the front side of his playing days had already taken him and his team to the NBA Finals and laid down markers that this guy is the real deal. Forget about your A game, better bring you AAA Game when you are going up against Penny. Dude was so good, he had his own shoe and commercials... remember Chris Rock... Penny, Penny!

Penny never really reached his peak/prime as injuries definitely got the best of him. In spite of this, he was a top tier guy right away. He was a dominant and winning player before he ever got to reach his full stride. Would love to see a video about Derrick Coleman too. He was a top tier power forward who consistently won 50+ games with the Nets. There is a guy who gets NO love.

Penny Hardaway! The legend! I remember that many times, I'd rock my Penny Hardaway jersey (I had the black one) and hoop it up! Penny is my favorite pg of the 90s! If it wasn't for his injuries, we'd be talking about one of the GOATS, and EASILY a first-ballot HOFer! Together, with Grant Hill, they're the biggest "what ifs" of the 90s, but at least Grant Hill bounced back at all star level! But, anyways, I had a wonderful adolescence, and Penny was a part of it! Penny was amazing,he perform on a high level. To me yes injuries played a role,but people overlook how bad the medical staff's were back then.And how they diagnosed certain injuries cost many players carriers,but of course it wasn't intentional. Today Penny recovers 100% from that injury👍

Yeah, medical staffs were learning how to deal with injuries and the bad shoes/equipment, and ofcourse they'd let players play while injured. Tore ACL meant your career is over. Remember Steph being injury prone early in career then he changed sneakers and had a great medical staff. In the 90s he'd be a shell of his self.

Well said,Hoss.Reminds me when i was in the army,if you got hurt,people inthe unit would have you doing things against a doctors orders,some of these guys were real &&&holes.They'd call you-BROKE-DICK and try to put pressure on soldiers to go against their doctor's orders for easy work assignments. One of the many reasons I left the army.

I REALLY liked Penny back in his early years. He was supposed to be the next Magic. What lead him to myself was Shaq. I loved Shaq. Even rocked a LSU hat back in my middle school years & was PISSED when he didn't make the Dream Team. ... Anyhow, Penny was smooth. So natural with his movement with the ball. Calm looking, yet nasty as hell. We got ROBBED as basketball fans, & I'm saying before the injuries. Shaq leaving that team just didn't feel right & changed a lot of things. Changed the way I viewed Shaq & even the NBA as a whole. It didn't feel right or settle well. It's hard to articulate exactly what I mean by that. ... League lost a little of its innocence in a way. It's overall shine or character. ... That's the best I got on it right now. ... Bet a lot of people who watched the NBA back then & within my age range would know what I mean (was born in 1978). - Thanks for another fine upload my man 🙏👍😃. ... Be well & best wishes

I tell everybody I stop watching basketball after Shaq left the magic grew up in Florida and was a huge penny fan ( born in 84) I understand when you say it didn’t feel right

On any other team, Penny would have been 'The Man', but he didn't linger in Shaq's shadow, he danced through it and put himself on display by dominating his opponent nightly. He was just getting started when injuries began their attack on his potential legacy. He was a joy to watch at his peak and will always be top 5 to me.

In the 1990s when Penny emerged at Orlando he was the only player in that decade who I thought could challenge MJ, or maybe be even better. Brilliant player but short lived career. Talent wise off the charts.

@@powerbadpowerbad magic was an exponentially better passer leader rebounder and clutch performer than Penny...Penny had a jump shot was far more athleticism was a better defender and might have been one of the best PGs ever if hed stayed healthy, but stop embellishing...Magic is the best PG EVER...He didnt have a jumper, but he did have an arsenal of hook shots as well as the teardrop which Penny lacked. Magic despite Reggies faulty claims was also better in the low post...Kareem retired and Magic still won a league MVP and got LA back into the finals without him...What happened to Penny after Shaq left Orlando? I loved Penny Hardaway I was very fond of that team with Shaq&Penny but Magic&Larry changed and saved the sport and dominated in a way very few ever have, and the only player Ive ever seen who Id put ahead of them in terms of greatness is Michael Jordan. Penny was a very good passer but he didnt ever have the kind of impact upon his teammates that Magic&Bird had...The only player Ive seen who had that kind of impact on his teammates was a healthy Bill Walton.

Penny is from the projects in Memphis...always respected how much he cares about his community. I think it's a big reason why he coaches at Memphis now.

Penny would have been a top 5 player of all-time if not for the injuries. However, Kobe's greatest attribute is rising to the level of his competitors. Kobe's relentlessness and work ethic is what makes him great. Kobe had the ability to elevate an average team into a championship team. I would of loved to see Kobe and Penny play against each other more.

This is no disrespect to Penny, but Shaq's comment that it took Kobe 2-3 seasons to figure it out, whereas Penny already had it as a rookie is extremely misleading! Kobe came into the league straight out of high school. Whereas when Penny left high school, he played 3 seasons in college before going to the NBA. You do the math.

8:58 I was in the Orena and saw this play happen live. I was a kid and it’s still one of the most memorable plays that I’d ever seen. For some reason I have a hard time finding it on different Penny videos, I’m glad you included it. He was just fucking amazing to watch.

@@chongvang2989 Shaq was mad because of an article in the Orlando Sentinel questioning his worth during contract negotiations. The Orlando Magic were being cheap too. This was after 2 sweeps in a row by Houston in the 95 finals, then being swept in the 96 ECF by the Bulls. It was about money, and feeling disrespected by the Magic front office, and fans who agreed with the Orlando Sentinal. Kobe was not prime Kobe yet. Shaq went to a team that in 96 was not as good at that point as the one he left. The Magic should have paid Shaq, got a new coach, and Traded Nick Anderson. Nick was never the same after missing those 4 free throws against Houston in the finals. I don’t know if they would have ever beat the Bulls even with those changes.
