Happened on the same day as the Knicks/Heat thrilling Game 5 and the Pistons/Hawks Game 5 played at the Alexander Memorial Coliseum on the campus of Georgia Tech. What a time to be alive to be an NBA fan.
Wouldn't be in the same universe as this. Fans don't make this kind of noise anymore thanks to smart phones. Players don't play as hard thanks to the idea that you should preserve your health to get more money. Commentators aren't nearly as good as Costas and Albert.
Very underrated game and series. Sacremento put the league on notice with their performance despite losing, and Utah looked to be on their last legs with their roster at the time.
That charging call was definitely ridiculous. Only two guys in the league at that time would have been strong enough to knock over Karl Malone; Shaquille O'Neal and Anthony Mason. That was a clear flop.
I miss it when teams wore home jerseys at home and away jerseys on the road 💯💯 this shit now bugs TF outta me. Seeing white jerseys on the road, too many alternates for one team, etc.
The Jazz started out great in the lockout shortened 1999 season but they seemed to run outta gas down the stretch. They went 5-5 the last 10 which allowed San Antonio to jump them for the division and #1 seed. After how much of a struggle this 1st round series against the Kings proved to be it wasn't too much of a surprise when Utah lost to Portland in the next round, even if they had made the WCF it's very unlikely they would've beaten the red hot Spurs.
Actually the league was done with the Jazz .. look OBJECTIVELY at all the Jazz playoff games in 99 aNd how the commentators were talking (theyre sellouts who know what the league has decided) . They were tired of the Jazz advancing. This series however i knew even thier cheats wouldnt keep the Jazz from winning because they were just too over the top better than Kings at that point.
This is also why nowdays they have went with a more deep and diabolical cheating system . .with MK athletes and a more strict contract system that keeps the players who will just play thier role in the drama and stay in check. - Reality
I felt this was the Jazz's best chance to win a championship. Malone and Stockton's window was very small at that point in time. Once they squeaked by the Kings and lost to the Blazers, their championship window was shut. The Lakers and Spurs were better and it would be both those teams battling out to win the West.
Basketball used to be a fun game to watch they ruined the game with all this soft rules they got today they cant even show emotion anymore or is a technical foul. I never liked todd fuller with the jazz they should of re-signed Antoine Carr i think he joined the rockets in 99
The first of back to back rough playoff losses in the first round for the Kings 1999 game 5 in Utah 2000 game 5 at the Lakers. Given, this was a Lakers team that won almost 70 games
This whole series (except this last game) was a great example that shows that the league front office no longer wanted the Jazz to advance. . they were tired of the Jazz (which actually started in 98 but the Jazz were just too good ..even cheats didnt work except in the Finals). ~ One way you can tell who the league has designed to win a game or series back then is to listen to the commentators. They were heavily heavily trying to hype up the Kings the entire series. I knew in this series though that the Jazz were too over the top better than the Kings then and even cheats wouldnt work in this series.
This last game of this series however apparently the league changed its mind and said to go ahead and let the Jazz through this time. Jazz didnt have a great game but atleast the bad calls were more evenly distributed .. even maybe a bit more for Utah which hadnt happened all series for sure. Uncommonly has it happened that the league changes thier decision in the middle of a series but it did here. Either you know and see these things or you dont. Im not trying to convince anyone. Those who know . . know. The next Jazz series however the freemason league was surely on a mission to eliminate Jazz , clearly.
EVEN if the Kings miraculously beated the Jazz they would’ve got curbedstopped by the Trailblazers. Yeah an 8th seeded Kings team would’ve definitely beated a 67 win Lakers team in 2000, oh wait….
Well they could've won both game 4 & game 5 down the stretch this series & I think 8 beating 1 could've been a huge confidence builder for any squad going forward. They definitely should've beat the Lakers in 2002 & won the championship that year@@Theterminato2013, Lakers looked awfully tight in game 7 against Portland in 2000, lucky to have squeaked by
@@geekUSA101Your just making excuses at this point. You’re delusional if you think by any chance the Kings had a chance of beating the Lakers in 2000. There were no were as good with reckless Jason Williams as their PG as they were with Mike Bibby 2002 onwards. Wanna know the real reason the Blazers choked Game 7 2000 WCF? Scottie Pippen. Scottie was the catalyst of the Blazers 15 pt 4th qtr meltdown, shot a pathetic 3/10 fg throughout game 7, scored 0 points in the 4th qtr and played piss poor defense on Kobe Bryant who sparked the Lakers comeback.
@@geekUSA1012nd off, the Jazz weren’t the 1 seed in 1999, they were the 3rd seed due to losing the tiebreaker vs the Spurs and the Blazers winning their division. The Kings were the 6th seed in 1999 and the Timberwolves were the 8th seed.
@@Theterminato2013 I thought it was Bryan Shaw hitting some shots against the blazers while Kobe was trying to go 1 on 4? yeah I didn’t say the kings were gonna beat the lakers in 2000 I said they would’ve been more successful probably in closing out series if they had won this one. In 2002 they definitely should’ve beat the lakers with Mike Bibby who I agree is far superior to Jason Williams
I loved Webber but he just wasn't built for those moments and they knew it. He started taking over more the next season but he never really stepped up in the playoffs, dirty refs or not.
@@geekUSA101 Yeah he was always rough from the line but that season was especially bad. So that was definitely part of it. But even an 18 footer from Webber with a dude all over him would've been better than whatever the hell Divac was trying to do.
@@UpTheDown7 Divac was a crafty player in the post, watch game 3 and game 4. He was getting it done down the stretch though you could argue he cost the kings the game in game 4 by not switching onto Stockton. Webber took a huge leap the following season, his shot became much smoother and he went from less than 50% from the ft line to 75%, when I watch Webber from this season his jumper still looks a bit raw
@@geekUSA101 I went back and looked at Webber's numbers that series and - oof - they were bad. Like really, really bad. I forgot how much he struggled in those games. So it makes perfect sense that they were going to Divac in the 4th. But even though Vlade could do something in the post going one on one against a strong vet like Karl Malone with the game on the line? Eh. I still would've taken my chances with a struggling Webber. The Kings just weren't ready that year.
back when NBA excited me. Maybe it's me getting old or maybe it's the league becoming just a big superstar pacifying nanny either way my NBA watching days are long gone.
Everybody knew this Kings team wasnt going to win the title, but everybody loved watching them play! One of my favorite teams, ever! Fun, scrappy, no fear. Thanks, fellas!
I wonder why Sac kept going to Vlade at the end. Malone could handle Vlade, as he showed, and Utah was running basically a 4 guard offense with Stockton, Hornacek, Russell and Anderson, forcing them to put Russell on Webber. Seems like a mismatch Sac should have exploited more.
Webber was my favorite player but he should have been in isolation at the end of games in the clutch, not Vlade. Vlade was good but cmon, the season can not come to him that many possessions in a row.
Actually Vlade did quite well in the clutch the previous 2 games which is why they probably went to him this game as well. On the other hand, Webber couldn't get it going at all this game, even being ineffective with Bryon Russell guarding him down the stretch (which this video sadly doesn't really show) plus his free throw percentage was an awful 40% for the series. I guess this is probably why the Kings went with the more experienced Divac but he like Webber couldn't really deliver for the Kings in the deciding game 5.
@@MDBBall Not delivering in the clutch was a narrative that followed him his whole career. Kinda like a Tony Romo. He was my favorite player and I watched every game I could. Vlade was indeed clutch at times, no doubt but telling that they never went to Webber during those handful of key possessions late in the game which is usually reserved for your superstar. Vlade was being guarded by the undersized 6”9 Malone albeit much stronger.
How? By making the Kings shoot 16 for 30 from the FT line in Game 7? By having Stojakovic and Christie wildly miss go ahead 3’s in regulation and OT? By not calling the Webber moving screen on Derek Fisher or Bobby Jackson pulling Kobe’s jersey out of his shorts “defending” at the end of Game 5? The Queens choked…plain and simple. All this refs stuff is sour grapes from bitch made haters like yourself.
This trend dumb as hell tbh. Kobe KG Duncan etc played in 90s and they was still in the league in 2010s lol. I know some older fans like to trash modern era so I think that a lot of young fans want to do the same. It’s just different eras man you can’t say this or that. No need to trample on the past or to shit on the guys today
