Taeyong and Mark wrote their verses in New Axis. The message behind the song is that they became the standard (the axis). And as a wise man once said "competition with my self nobody else" Mark Lee, Dreams come true

ah i saw someone say that since the song is about a forthcoming break up "the dance with a ghost" lyric could be about the girl ghosting them. the following lyric "she wants to leave me" makes it even more sure. that explanation makes the most sense to me. the song seemed like kind of a trying to keep a relationship alive thing...but a one-sided effort.

The Ether, the element that connects the dreams of NCT members, I think they explained it in NCTmentary for their NCT2018 introduction, they mentioned about it again in MAMA2020 Resonance performance hmm XD

There are definitely multiple levels that you can read Universe on (cause it was written by Kenzie, with Mark writing his lines, and she always connects multiple ideas). But at the base of many many NCT songs is the very idea of connection, being in contact through dreams and the collective unconscious. Jungwoo even sings "we're connected" during the bridge which is why he is not afraid of the dark. There are multiple references also to stars and meteors, lights in the dark, which is very fitting in a song called Universe. I don't disagree, there is a lot that can be read as a physical intimacy. But the metaphors can also be read as what is beyond that, reaching out for a guiding light. "You're my star" the thing that you navigate by. (And many of these ideas will get repeated in other tracks on the album which I think is intentional.) Axis comes up again and again. The axis does not refer to direction. Like Taeyong writes- it is the centre of the centre, the point around which everything else rotates (including our Universe which is also rotating.) Both Taeyong and Mark (who co-wrote New Axis) love to use words that have double meanings or sound really close to another word (word games like that are very common in Korean). They do it a LOT in their verses and they make full use of the fact they speak multiple languages too. Ether/Aether is a very old idea, it used to be imagined as the pure air of the gods or the element that filled the universe beyond our earth through which all heavenly bodies moved through space. In their last album (and in the monologue you heard for their MAMA performance) ether was used to represent the element or realm that allowed the members to connect through their dreams. Connect to each and each other no matter the distance involved.

Well although nct does give weird songs they then kind of bring us back to earth with the repackages or b-sides like what happened with sticker, it was weird and they knew a lot of people wouldn’t vibe with so that’s why they also promoted a b-side (Lemonade) and then they did “Favorite” for the repackage.

I have to say this new iteration of NCT 2021 might be one of my favourites besides the glaring omissions of Lucas and WinWin in WayV. But it's nice to see Hendery and Johnny get more screen time so can't complain. Now that NCT week is over, you should definitely consider SEVENTEEN, they're pretty up there as far as successful k-pop groups that are involved in every aspect of their music, from the writing, video concepts, visuals and choreography. They are also known for being some of the best-known and in sync dancers in k-pop history. I'd recommend maybe trying a video and dance practice so you can actually appreciate the effort and time they put into their work. Some of their best singles are Don't Wanna Cry, Hit, Highlight, Clap, Left and Right, Home:Run, Home, Not Alone, Ready To Love, Anyone or pretty much any of the MV's.
