This man to man defensive strategy combines the strategies of crease and adjacent slide packages in order to create a sliding system that is easier to teach and more instinctive for players on the field.

You should make a Near Man D video only. Meaning...My youth guys don't understand a crease slide vs adjacent slide (vs near man) which is why I'm using the Near Man, to those 15 minutes explaining crease and adjacent the differences just make their head spin (I have them watch these on off nights to help our limited practice time, especially when we can't get on a field more than once a week) and they get lost and confused. Thanks Patrick these are great.

So, something that denotes who is closest and how to recover without recognition of each strategy? What ages are you thinking? How do you communicate if there is a crease guy or not?

Thank you for the awesome video! As a coach of lacrosse whose knowledge is extremely limited in this area, every little bit helps. I'll be sure to have my assistant coach watch this so at least one of us will understand this

Absolutely! I''m glad that you are finding it useful. This will be one of the next PDF's that I get out as well. Let me know how installing it goes and if there are any hiccups.

Do a vid on defensive sliding and where to slide on the field and talk on 2 slides for more defensive content. Overall just more d content !!

Definitely on the list. I’ll need to hire some help for the finer points on that one.

How do you slide on a dodge from X?

Hey Patrick! Great vids. I see you tell the backside “2s” to “spider”…can you explain this terminology. I am sure you have done it on one of your other videos and if you could refer me to that, that be great too. Thanks! Chet

Imagine the defensive zone as a big web, we want players to move like spiders into the middle, They creep, sideways, able to see their men and the ball. You can also use terminology like Sluff In.

Hey Patrick, you seem really enthusiastic about this defense. Is this what you have your kids run?

I do like it and we use it amongst some other slide packages. I think the principles here are sound and it's a good way to introduce a read-based sliding system, rather than a predetermined one.

2nd year in lacrosse so I’m spending a lot of time watching your videos. This stuff is so confusing and I’m 43. My u12 kids eyes roll over when I try to teach this. I had to watch the video 4-5 and I still have trouble. There has to be an easier way. Any recommendations for trainings or easier defenses would be greatly appreciated. I just finished the NMD course but still clueless how to communicate this to a rec team.

Sorry for the delay on this answer, but in terms of Rec, it really depends on their familiarity with team sports and lacrosse overall. The general ideas behind the defense can be taught with the triangle show drill, Line bump drill, and 5 on a die drill, but if they don't have the ideas of matching up, spidering in, and who should slide in smaller sided games and examples, it's going to be really difficult. The key is to put them into situations where the error they are making becomes very apparent. For instance, if they aren't sliding or helping, put them in a 1v1 + 1, which is essentially a 2v2, but the off ball offensive player has to stay on the crease, which lets the defensive off ball player focus on sliding when the on ball defenseman gets beat.

What program did you use to make the plays?

It's called PlayScripter. It's hasn't been updated in a long while and only works with old IOS operating systems.
