GW made House Esher back in the 90's when the...2nd ed. (I think, I seem to recall some White Dwarf articles of rules for Necromunda some years before that) of Necromunda, so I'm pretty sure it was not a "strategic" decision, but rather a question of "let's make some cool miniatures, and some distinct gangs..." And the (old) Esher models were damned cool :-)
Absolutely can get chem thrower and plasma gun in an Escher list. Queen - Mesh, Shock Whip, combi needler/bolter Death Maiden - Mesh, stiletto sword, needle pistol Matriarch - Mesh, plasma gun Specialist - chem thrower, chem synth Sister - lasgun Sister - lasgun Little Sister - stub gun, stiletto knife. Comes out at 1000 creds on the nose, only 7 bodies which is risky for an Escher gang but comes with all the tools out the gate, add another sister or two with lasguns or shotguns to round out the list with your early income and you're golden.
As an Eldar (Craftworld Aeldari) player in 40k it seems this would be the best choice for me. I'm not sure how much experience you have in 40k but I'm seeing similarities.
Speaking of versatile swords, do people have a favorite: stiletto or power? I've got a death maiden with two swords. Currently I'm planning to run her with one of each just to see how they stack up.
For DM I’d go with Stilleto swords! Potent but also leaning into the theme! Poison Blood baby! That is unless parry is strong in your meta! Or you like power swords!
@@stuartbanana5083 one of each? Go with stilettos, and Master Crafted. Get 2 rerolls to hit and make your opponant reroll 2 successful hits. Plus the toxins you can stack up. My queen has the 2 MC stilettos, chem synth, lasgun, mesh, ablative overlay, scrape shield, cred sniffer and Falsehood currently in my campaign. Lol she's mean
Post covid insanity goes well for you, great video and my favourite gang. I like the models, but since I have so many I also got the old metal models and converted some from an AoS Underworlds kit.
Chem alchemy is really good in one-off battles, but if used in a campaign it's going to absolutely murder your own economy. I think the best way to build Escher, as counter-lore as it sounds, is to completely forget about gas and toxin. You can get 6 boltguns or grenade launchers (or any mix of the two) into a starting gang. That kind of firepower rivals even the best starting builds from Van Saar.
@@wellywoodwargaming I agree that spamming can be boring. I wasn't suggesting that anyone actually runs that, outside of any competitive environment. My point is that the best conventional weapons are still better than gas and toxin, even when chem alchemy is factored in. And since there is anti-synergy between conventional weapons and gas/toxin, you are better off leaving gas/toxin out of your roster altogether. If you want a gang that is good, that is. If you are playing for theme or memes, anything is fair game.
@@wellywoodwargaming built up my escher gang whilst watching this video. Well started to as it took a few hours of list building lol. Hope your well dude.
I have 17 of these little psychos nearly all painted. I can't wait to get someone in my basement to play dollies with...and yes I made it weird on purpose.
