Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ru-vid.comUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
How does tactical have less subs than milliken or googan squad. These dudes put super valuable info out there about lakes. Boats, fishing tips etc. dont hold back on anything.
@@4orkful ya idk how those dudes got famous. They do nothing but act like fools. I love how tactical took the time with the buying used boat video. They dont just do awesome fishing tips they explain stuff like that too.
Tactical is way more professional and put way more time into a video. Even from linking all the gear used in the description. Where as googang is all childish acts and humor. Unfortunately Milliken used to be about fishing but has slowly started drifting away from it.
@@Robiko9 love the links to the gear! Not to mention they give u rods reels baits etc from the poor man up to the guys that can afford the 500$ stuff. I loved their what to look for in a used boat video. Ove bought a few and they had alot of good info
Thanks TacticalBassin. I’m 47 and just started bass fishing and your videos have helped me catch more fish. I tore them up on a ned rig yesterday. Thank you guys
I recently tried the ned rig here in europe after watching you guys throw it and i caught a 3,5 lb perch on the first cast followed by 10 more over 2,5 lbs. Thats insane by our standards, thanks for great content. Ive converted a lot to perch fishing and it WORKS!
Hands down the most detailed and informative channel on RU-vid bass fishing. Appreciate it fellas! Keep up the amazing job and keep growing you all deserve it for the best content out here.
The best bass fishing (as in a science) on the web. These guys have done their homework. I’ve been fishing for 30 years and I’ve upped my bag limits by following this page.
Ned Rig.. Amazing in the early spring and late fall, I’m in the Midwest, so we actually get winter here! 😂. Tim and Matt, you do fantastic work! Great videos!
Another great video. One thing I would about the z-man stuff is to never put them in plastic boxes as they will react to them as well. Best to keep them in their original packaging.
I'd been running half a senko for a "Ned rig" and was getting nothing. Switched over to the proper mushroom head and zman trd. 4 of us were skunked all day on chatters and jigs so I finally tried the proper Ned and no joke the first cast it's a nibble.. nibble.. Bite! 3rd cast the same!! Tactical Bassin is my secret weapon and all of us rookies are so insanely grateful for your content. Thank You for literally teaching me how to fish bass. One day we'll get on the water together.
Hey Tim, thanks for the thorough lesson on the Ned rig! I always look forward to those Tactical Bassin video notifications on my phone. You and Matt never disappoint!
The lakes I fish have a lot of weed beds and I have found that fishing the Z-Man TRD with a very light head allows the ned rig to drop slowly through the weeds rather than dropping quickly to the bottom. This seems to keep the lure in the strike zone longer and makes it a bit easier to work the lure through weedier areas. If I'm fishing an area where the bottom is clear of weed beds then it doesn't seem to matter as much.
IVE GROWN VERY FOND OF THE OL NED RIG, AND RUINED 4 PACKS RIGHT OFF THE BAT BUT,THEY'VE SAVED MY DAY MORE THAN ONCE AND IVE CAUGHT ALOT OF SPECIES OF FISH WITH EM👍😁
Good info. The Ned Rig was definitely one of my go-to baits last year. Saved me on one of my tournament days when I could see the fish on the graph but couldn't get them to bite anything. Dropped the Ned on their heads and had my limit by 11:30. I keep one tied on all the time now.
I love your guys channel so much it's my favorite on RU-vid. You give the most information and knowledge then anyone on RU-vid. I would love a video of your top baits and colors for lakes that have shad in it. Thanks for all the great content and hope you guys continue to grow!
Awesome video Tim! Everything I need to know about the ned rig but forgot to ask at BPS! Thanks for all the details you guys go into, it has made a big difference!
I was just fishing a drop shot and was about to re-rig with a Ned Rig when I had an idea. I just took off my drop shot weight and used my Ned Rig as the drop shot weight. Now I'm fishing drop shot and Ned Rig at the same time. You're welcome.
Ned Kehde is an angler & writer for In-Fisherman - he hails from NE Kansas and is the name sake of the "Ned Rig." From various articles I've read on Ned, he's pretty humble about it, gives most of the credit to the late Chuck Woods for pioneering the technique, and prefers the term "Midwest Finesse Rig." The various retrieves favored by Ned are covered in an article on In-Fisherman's website titled "Six Midwest Finesse Retrieves". I'm not sure if RU-vid allows URLs in comments or not, but if you Google "midwest finesse retrieves," it should be the first result. Ned emphasizes a "no feel" approach to Ned Rig fishing - preferring ultra-light mushroom-style jigs, mostly 1/16 oz or even 1/32 oz with a hook size between #4 and #6. Ned covers jig weights and hook sizes in another In-Fisherman article titled "Hook Size Debate" - just Google "ned hook size debate" and it should be the first result. To accentuate his "no feel" approach, and point out that state-of-the-art fishing gear is not necessary, Ned himself typically uses cheap Shakespeare rods with classic Zebco Cardinal 4 spinning reels with bails cut off.
Great video guys, It’s such an effective technique. I recently started using roboworm lures and I’ve been blown away how the fish just nail them, not only that but their colors are fantastic!
Thank you for a great informational video I’m gonna try this technique this summer for the first time this is the best video I’ve seen yet on how to fish them
The Ned is my go to. I generally chase Smallmouth on the Yellowstone River and even in the dead of summer I use it. . Not only have I caught bass on it I will also pick up Walleye. I never use super glue however. Haven’t had issues with it not lasting. I use The Zman TRD’s with the Z MAN Ned heads more in weedless congratulations. Nice video. I also keep it more natural colors. Keep em’ coming, enjoy the videos.
Great video. I wanted to share this tidbit. I too use a braid to leader connection when finesse fishing. By using flyfishing leader material I can use a 12 lb. fluorocarbon leader that has a diameter as small or smaller than regular 6 lb. fluorocarbon for spin fishing. I don't know why it's a smaller diameter than regular line but it is. I'm currently using RIO Products Fluoroflex tippet in the 2x size which is 12 lb test.
I just did a quick search and this video isn’t a true tactical beginners guide to baitcasters but it’s the closet I could find ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w0b9WrQmG94.html
I started and learned with cups in a back yard. Once you get confident with a set distance move it further. I also started with a bait that cast well but also acted like a simple weight like lipless crankbaits and texas rigs. There are numerous videos on setting up the reel which will be a good starting point. Time practicing and on the water will do its thing and you will become proficient.
I just tried the Ned for the first time on a lake I've been trying to figure out all summer. Deep, clear and cold reservoir in the mountains. Used zman plastics. It paid off big time!
I have the Ned rigs hooks and all the plastics here in Florida I believe people are using them and not talking about it I need to start using this bait get some confidence in it very professional video thanks
I really like the Z man elaztech products, they float, and resemble a defenseless craw better than anything. Roboworm products just lay down. JMO. Great videos. always great content all info no junk. Keep em coming.
THANKS for the tips on how to rig and fish the ned rig I'm goi g to fish it this year now that I understand the ned rig thanks again for the advice. GOD BLESS..✋👊
Awesome info, and I'm still haven't tried it yet, I'm having a hard time getting into the finesse fishing,I'm sure I'll kick myself after I try it lol 👊👊👍👍
5ft 6 gloomis UL trout and panfish rod, 10lb Braid, 8lb leader.. and yes! Always stick with those original Ned rig Zmans. The green pumpkin for the win! Also most the time.. it’s such a small profile.. LG mouth will usually just take it. You’ll know when it’s on. And that smaller profile hook, you do not have to set the hell out of the hook. Just lift that rod tip aggressively.. best way I can explain that hook set with text. Anyway, very good information brother as always!
I caught 2 smallie on a ned today! First time fishing the rig(I went to my local store and got the Googan Baits Rattling Ned just to try). Conditions were not as bad as I was expecting, fairly warm, but I seen them and wanted to try it(mostly because I put together a new finesse rod and wanted to toy around with it) and now for every tournament this year, I'm convinced I will have at least one rig set up!
I use regular senkos texas rigged. After they start breaking up, I just cut the bottom 2.5 inches off and keep them for Ned rigs. Saves $. Not hitting the worm, go Ned. Great channel guys. thank you for all you do.
Wow I didn't know about using this in cold, clear water. Thank you! This is my go-to bait all summer long for bronzebacks on the Wisconsin River (Thanks to guides Kurt Schultz and Brad Wirt for schooling me). Warm, stained water...and yes, Ned Rig Kicks ass too. SOO true about krazy glue gel. 1 Zman TRD will last all day. If you haven't tried it, and are skeptical about it's do-nothing design...don't worry. Yes, the ned rig might be the dumbest looking lure on the market...but it flat out catches fish. Also agree about the big TRDs...I would use something else other than that. Great video, guys.
Was at a place yesterday throwing everything not getting a bite and a few people left. I Remembered this video and tossed one, got 2 smaller bass lol the Ned works! I used a 3in strike king Ned-r in green pumpkin.
I went got Ned rig fitness TRDs from ZMan yesterday and went to fish this morning and got a lot of bites on a single one. I landed about 5 and about 4 got dehooked. These work way better than plastic trick worms on a texas rig which is what I use the most. The plastic is insanely durable compared to the senkos. Spinning reel with a 10Lbs Mono line work best for me, I heard the thinner the line the better but I'll stick with the 10Lbs. Overall I think this is an amazing rig. I hope I get bigger than 1 pounders one day. Although these catch a lot of Bass they don't catch the biggest ones. Surprisingly they work on deep water as well as shallow water. I have to mention I caught a one ounce Bass on these. Lol. The hook up ratio is insane. They get hooked mostly by the upper lip and the Mushroom head hooks are easier to dehook from the Bass, which makes it easier on the Bass.
Best ned rig bait in my opinion is the biwaa potate in black with blue flake. I think the shape and color mimics a leach perfectly. It's definitely worth a try.
I have to say also as a Kayak Fisherman that Senko’s and Neds are a great first throw after a long paddle to your spot. Like when you get there and need to rest a bit or get a drink throw a Ned or Senko and let them work for you easy action.
Tons of Ned baits on the market now. One of the most exciting is Strike King's Ned Bug in moon juice color (great in clear waters). Another good one is the Missile Baits Ned Bomb in Goby bite.
nice nothing terribly new but its good to cycle back through to A: remind me about the bait and B: Bring others who are new to it discover it. Thanks - Solid content as usual.
Great info on the ned rig Tim, never thought about super gluing worm to hook. I always wondered about color choices too because Zman didn't offer much, now we know great alternative with the robo worms. Thanks for the info on separate storage too! lol!! Been there done that!
Thank you, Tim, luv the tactical Bassin tips. Any particular knot for Ned Rigs... Customer Tip for the Bass'er, do NOT store Zman baits with other manufacturers, best to buy the Zman storage systems too. well worth it... For that matter, chose Zman baits first, then one or two others. I've not tossed Robo...coming from Tactical Vassin. I'll be ordering up. Personally, I love fitness fishing, flipping, and pitching.
Nice video guys!! Speaking of bandwagons, what are your thoughts on the Tokyo rig?? Is this a potential video?? Have you guys tried it yet?? Let us know please!!
I actually lightly pop my Ned rig a bit instead of just dragging it. Basically I do what I’d do with a Texas rig but 5 times less dramatic and I’ve gotten great results
This is a great video guys thanks for sharing. The video brought a question to mind. My fishing buddy and I have been fishing the Ned rig a lot lately. It has become a proven fish catcher for us in tough conditions up until very recently. We’ve mostly been using the big TRD worm and it was working great. But now we can’t even get a bite on it. Do you think it’s the size, should I switch to the smaller original TRD worm? Last couple of trips out the water temps have been consistently below 55 degrees. We’ve been able to scrounge some bites off a jig and/or swimjig. We cant figure out why the fish will not touch the Ned rig anymore. It doesn’t make sense that they’ll eat a swimjig and not a ned. Any input would be great thanks.
I fished the Ned rig last spring just before the world as we knew it changed(C-19)was at Black Lake in the Thousand Islands I caught so many bass on the Ned rig, my elbow hurt, best weekend of fishing in 50 yrs. I caught my first one next to the boat ramp, was just trying to see the Ned rig action, next thing I know I got a 2 1/2" large mouth. Later I Was catching them while fishing on a pontoon boat with 6 other guys. Everybody kept asking if I had another one of those baits that they could buy from me. Several guys asked to wind one in just so they could say they caught one. Lol caught about 85 bass🐟 in 3 dsys
Would you guys recommend using the Ned rig if you are fishing a body of water (Lake Perris, CA) that has a lot of big trees (alive & dead) and lots of grass, that is very easy to get snagged on and get stuck? Is there a weedless version of the ned rig? Or would you take a different approach and not even use the Ned rig?? I feel the Ned rig is good for only flat and rocky bottoms. If you could get back to me soon that would be great. Gunna hit Perris today around 2 till sunset. Just had about 5 days straight of rain out here in SoCal. Lol gunna see how that works! 😄
patrick H. i'm not sure what there answer will be but i can tell you how i've started fishing the ned rig for grass or anywhere you need a weedless presentation.. use a shakey head jig and the TRD ... if you don't already have a favorite shakey head jig i'd recommend the vmc finesse rugby jig in a 1/16oz.. just basically rig the trd on like you'd texas rig a normal worm and try to keep it on the bottom and moving at the same time.. i use this or a true shakey head worm on a 1/16oz. jig most of the time in and around grass or gunk whenever anything else you use just gets caught up.. the light head combined with the buoyancy of the elaztech will let you be able to work the bait across the top of that junk and in and through brush without getting caught up like with traditional weighted baits.. how i've seen the trd fished and what made me a believer is simply casting it out and reeling it back about as slow as you can stand... not really hitting the bottom ... i've witnessed this several different times when fishing with the kids.. i heard the hype about these so bought a few packs to try... well they were just sitting in my box for about a season then in the winter my son Noah and myself were going down to the local lake mainly to just get out of the house for a while and i was eager to test cast a few new rods i had picked up... so i grabbed one of the ned rigs for him to use and i think i just brought a squarebill to throw because that's what i intended to throw with the rods i wanted to try.. well i'll put an end to this long story... he caught 8 bass to my surprise and i got skunked.. then later on in that same year i decided to rig my cousins daughter up with a pink trd because the little ones were hitting my red worm and she wasn't gettting any bites on what he had given her to use.. well she caught the biggest bass of the day and almost as many as either of us... simply by throwing that bait out and reeling it back slowly.. i find that the less you move it actually the better like Tim mentioned if they'll hit a faster more reactive presentation he'll throw something else.. i'm the same way.. i like a 7" wormz shakey head when they're hitting better but if you can't get bit the trd can be an awesome go to bait if fished either slow reeling or just crawling along the bottom or gunk..
Isn't the Ned rig basically a Johnson Beetle Spin, without the spinner? *Which was a good way to finesse fish it in cold/clear water... and was as deadly as the Ned rig, with and without the spinner, 30 plus years ago. ;)
@@tacticalbassin No, there really isn't, but the materials often times have become better (*as in the case of the TRD elaztec plastics). Ya know, I have half a mind to find an old Beetle spinner and throw a modern colored Ned worm on it, or an underspin... but I digress (literally). *Black was my favorite color for Beetle Spins. ;)
I have a buddy that lives and dies by a beetle spin on an 5' spinning UL, I typically jig and swimbait fish on mid level equipment. I introduced him to the Ned rig big mistake. He always puts more fish in his kayak than I do!! I should've kept the Ned for myself.
The Ned Rig worm is about 3-4 times longer than the Beetle Spin. The Ned Rig is closer to the Slider Rig, that has been around since the 1960’s - 1970’s, which is rigged on an open hooked 1/8 oz. jig, with a simple 3”-4” plastic and fished primarily the “do-nothing” style of fishing. AND, before that people in the mid-Tennessee area were fishing 3”-4” plastic worms on 1/8-1/4 oz jigs on plain Creme plastic worms in the 1950’s and 1960’s. BTW, the “inventor” of the Slider Rig wrote a book in the 1980’s about “Do Nothing” Fishing.
