Why does your 660 have a screen on the back? All productphotos on Amazon don't have a screen. Do you have a special model?

I almost wonder now if even though the pictures are off that people will receive this version or the other versions? Gooday day ! Appreciate for your quality videos while i'm doing research for purchasing budget LED light. Would like to ask between the 660 Bi-Color & 660 RGB, when operate with only the white/yellow LED with full power (100%), will both produce the same intensity of light or different due to the less White/Yellow LED on the 660 RGB version? Does the amount of LEDs (White & Yellow) on both light will determine the differences on the light intensity they will produce? Thanks!

Just purchased the 660 panels kit with Batteries, Small soft box and the larger square box with egg rate from your links hope it helps because you really gave me the needed info to make a solid decision based upon our needs and current budget. We have 2 older large 5lamp soft boxes that we bought some egg rates for. We plan to get a RGB as well but for now we’ll have to Gel the 660’s when called for. I’ll send you a photo when it’s lit up! My personal take is that while, "yes", the panels are bright and will light up the person you want to take a photo of. Will the light look pleasing? Depends on the photographer you are. If you're looking to get some nice soft portraits, you're usually wanting something called "soft" or "diffused" light where the shadows don't look so harsh. Think a super large window in a living room with light pouring in. The light source is "large", its also bouncing light into the room. So the shadows on the person you're looking at is not harsh, its much more pleasing. With these LED panels you could potentially get there by shooting the light through a large diffusion cloth. But you loose light output which makes you need to jack up your camera settings which is not always desirable. So my general suggestion for anyone thats looking for photography as their primary need to forgo these budget video lights. You should be investing in strobes/flashes that can attach to softbox modifiers. This is not only cheaper, but gets you much close to what you're going for. The reason these budget video lights still work for videographers is because we do not require the high power that photographers need. We are filming at F1.8 - 2.8 at 1/50th shutter with low to mid ISO settings. These are not desirable for a photographers because they need sharp crisp images. So they need to shoot at either F2.8-5.6, low ISO, at 1/100th or higher. These budget lights are not powerful enough to give soft light while also hitting these camera settings. So what if you do both. In this case I would direct you to research into Cob LEDs that basically mimic a photography flash, except its a continuous light source. The most popular are the Godox SL60 and Godox SL150. These are the current budget types. Get a nice large bowens softbox, get it in close to the talent and get that nice soft portrait light. I know this is a ton of info, I should probably make a video about this to show what I mean. But TLDR. Yes it'll work, but you may get that "deer in the headlights" look on the person your taking a picture of. Your primary goal is to create a "large" light source like a large patio window as your main light, bounce the light back at the person soften the shadow side more. And thats your basic concept for a portrait look. You can add a hair light / accent light if you like. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! The battery tests I did was actually with 2 batteries, and they are 3rd party NPF970 equivalents. Some marketers overestimate their numbers. Yes you can still use the RGB version as your main lights, I would suggest using the Daylight 5600k as your main as they seem to be more color accurate than the tungsten 3200 LED. In general for photography, while I'm not a photography, I would actually suggest getting flashes (speedlight?) or Strobes and purchase softboxes for those. The reason being is because these budget LED panels are not nearly as powerful compared to a flash. Videographers we only really need to be operating anywhere at 1/48 - 1/60th shutter speed. Photographers need to be at a much higher shutter speed to capture the instant moment of the people they a shooting (even if they are sitting still) Another reason I advise going the flash route is because you have a lot more options for your photography with that power. You have more freedom to move the lights closer or further as well as adjusting for deep depth of field. When you have an underpowered light source you will be confined in your options. I hope this makes sense why I advise going a different route for photographers that want to capture human subjects. If you were only doing product photography, then my recommendation would be different as your subject never moves. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! I guess it really depends on how many people are in the panel discussion, their seating orientation and how close can you get the light just to have more play with your dimming. Now, last I knew, the prices of these panels had gone up since my initial review. Assuming battery portability is not a major concern for your needs in that you'll always have access to power indoors, I'd think getting a 60w COB led might actually be cheaper and give you more power than these panels. Because these panels are bicolor, you're really only getting 30-40 watts of power depending on what colors you're using, where as the 60w cobs will give you 60w in daylight color. I have a comparison video here of some popular 60w COB LED's for you to look at compared to these panels: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3drVUZ5LWPI.html From there you could then use the extra cash saved for your hair light or bowens light modifiers for your other film projects. These are just my thoughts for other options you may want to look into, hope it helps!

I'm really hoping to achieve a very nice news type studio lighting setup on location. As you say, plug in power would be essential. Quick interviews, I use a smaller battery powered off cam led light which is perfect. In this "new normal" recording presentations and live streaming is gaining popularity over actual events with an audience now so the brightest but adjustable lights that can be moved from location to location without a bug fuss is essential. For the most part if you are in a controlled lighting situation, these 660 LED panels are not that bad and you are able to get the exposure you need. @@TLDR_filmmaker Hi, so most of the time I will film in my basement, garage, or classroom. Daylight bulbs are good for me, as with my drawing or product show, I try to light things bright. Don't you feel I should be ok with a non-Bi-Color LED with a softbox? That should throw out a lot of light. I really like the Fovitec LED, very simular to Neewer, but a wider panel. I think I will get the 600. Like you said, it is hard to find them in Neewer 660 in non-bi-color. Another question, the round soft box you listed, that should fit the Fovitec, right? thanks for your wisdom, your show is awesome.

Yes the Fovitec being Daylight only would be better as you said earlier, so that you get the most amount of light from a single panel. In terms of if the softboxes will fit, this is a little hard for me to determine for the square softbox as the opening in the back is only about 12" x 12". The Fovitec states it's 15" x 15", but I do now know where they are measuring from. Since the softbox as the moment is sold you, the fovitec does have barndoors where you can clip some sheer curtain cloth or even wax paper away from it so soften the light like a softbox. They in itself could be enough for your needs if you don't need anything fancy, no need to spend more money if the desired result can be achieved this way. Hope this helps!

It sounds like you may have one of the Gen 1 models that I think only had rotary dials where as mine (2.4ghz version) has the LCD to tell me what Kelvin I'm at. Generally speaking the extreme ends should be marked at 3200k to 5600k with the middle being 4400k. These are the three most common you'll probably use for most situations. If you mean the entire panel burning out, neewer does have some sort of warranty but I do not know how easy it is to go through the process. That being said my panels are still up and running and have not had any problems with it yet. The LED bulbs most likely will last many many years while the computer board inside could burn out randomly. But because these are not high voltage systems, the chances of it burning out prematurely isn't too high. Manufacture defect could happen as with any products. Hope this helps! Without seeing the space and a lot of other specifics, I can only give my best guess for this recommendation. This will really depend on the room and your camera. If the room has windows where Sun is entering through, then these lights might not be enough. Because you are looking to give a pretty decent wide shot so the students can see your body and club movement, the lights will probably need to be placed anywhere from 10-20ft away from you depend on your camera lenses ability. That being said if I was to pick one of the two. I would pick the Neewer 660 and use it without the plastic cover in front, and use it at 4400k to get the most amount of output possible. Depending on the room size and if you have control of window light to blacken them out, you may need more than 2. However if these lesses are done during the day a room with multiple windows where the room feels like its glowing. You can pull some sheer curtains over it and more than adequate light for your camera. Make sure your camera is set in a way where it is looking away from the window and not at it, that was the window lights you up nicely. Again these are only my thoughts based on limited information. But the essential key is, if you're on a budget, test out the window with sheer curtains idea and see what your camera see's and determine if that is acceptable for you. If this is not possible and you do need to light up the entire room with artificial lighting. Then I probably start with 3 neewer 660s and use them as I stated above. Extend your light stand as high as it can go so that the LED's are facing down at you so that you don't get the "Deer in the headlights" look. Turn them to 4400k and see just how much light that blasts through. The reason you want a lot of light is because, my guess, you don't have a dedicated camera man that will be pulling focus as you walk around the frame. So you're going to want your F-stop (aperture) to be higher (probably f5.6) So you're going need more light to compensate for it so that you don't look like you're in a dark room. Sorry this is a lot of information, but I hope this gives you an idea as you start experimenting with your space before making an investment. I will be working on a video tutorial soon to give people an idea of what kind of lights to look at as most of my videos are based for Movie Filmmakers and not necessarily instructional videos. Really appreciate the detail response! I just ordered the 3 Neewer 660 w/ remote. I also have a Neewer 176 led. The room size is large with extremely high ceilings (16-20 feet). It does have one traditional window (est. 4ft 2.5ft) and the base of the window is est. 10-12 feet high off the base of the floor and maybe 15-20 feet from where I would be filming (window faces me). Obviously light only comes through that window at certain times a day. Not sure if those times are advantages for filming or not? I have two types of lighting in the room: traditional fluorescent ceiling light bulbs (makes the room light up like a surgeons office) and led dimmer lights (overhead as well). Questions: 1) Do you recommend having any of the lights on during filming? 2) How would you recommend I stage the neewer lights (3-660 and 1-176)? 3) What light stands or adjustable brackets do you recommend to have the lights higher off the ground and how high?

Gotcha, that sounds like an awesome room, I love high ceilings haha! Answer 1) It can't hurt to play around with the lights in the room to see if it gives you a desirable outcome. Because the panels are Bi-color you can determine which way you want to match the lights in the room or just have an overall mix and do a custom WB in your camera to match it. Just make sure your camera's shutter speed is set to 1/60th so that you don't get any weird banding lines going up the screen slowly. This is common with florescent bulbs Answer 2) Think of a traditional TV station, they have lights up about and circling the news desk. You will semi replicate this to a degree by having the lights on both sides of the camera at around a 45 degree angle, with the 3rd light being in the center or just slightly off in either direction. I myself am 6 feet tall, so I try to have the light around 7-8 feet up in the air pointing at my face to chest. If you find that 2 lights coming from the 45 degree angle is plenty and you now have a third one that can be used elsewhere. I would then place this light "behind you" out of camera frame, same height in the air as the others, and pointed at you. It probably won't need to be as bright. This gives you something called a "rim light" or "hair light". So when you are talking to the camera you will kind of have this faint outline and it further separates you from the wall behind you and gives a additional visual esthetic. If all your lights are "daylight" (blue in tone), you can make this hairlight more yellow at the "tungsten" side and that will give you even more separation. Definitely a lot of ways to play with lights, it's taking me awhile to get to these lighting tutorials, but hope some of this makes sense. The key thing is to play around with it and see what results it gives you until you reach something you like. The things I'm suggesting is where I would start to see what I get in the camera, if I don't like it I will change it up. Anything from putting the lights closer, further, higher, different angle, putting a piece of wax paper in front of it. The more you attempt different setups you'll quickly develop a sense of what to do to get what you want. Major tip for lighting with these panels, don't put them further away. Experiment with how close you can get them at full brightness, if it's too bright put the plastic cover on or clip some wax paper onto the metal barn doors to soften the light. When you put lights further away from you is when you get some harsh shadows. Hope this helps! Good luck and have fun!

Hey hey Mark! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! This really depends on the area you're allowed to setup for these corporate interviews. Usually, when working with corporates, they usually just put you into a room and you may or may not get the ability to control the lighting in the room (Ceiling lights, curtains, etc). Cheap Panels you really need to have control of the room as its only pumping out 25-40watts of output, which is further cut down because you may want to diffuse it so that the executive is not staring at a "car light". A 120w LED class is a good all rounder where if you don't have control of indoor lighting, the LED is decently powerful enough to add light where you need so that you can play with windows as a edge light. I actually just reviewed the Godox UL150 thats similar to the Aputure COB but much cheaper and performs quite well. This is a two part kinda answer. - Yes, it will light you and the painting just fine with two panels - If you will light the lighting look is a different story. The answer is a bit technical and has moving parts that all effect each other. If you are in a completely dark garage and then turning on these two lights. You will cast a harsh shadow at whatever wall you may be near. Of course you can move away from the wall as far as you can to negate this. Because of only using two lights in a dark situation, you could feel that the look may be too "deer in the headlights". The latter is not meant to steer you away from these lights, I just want to make sure you go into it with a bit more idea of what a two panel setup may look like. That being said, don't alter your thinking that you now need to go buy a bunch of lights to get a more polished look. I'm assuming you are just starting out. These lights will help you get started so that you can begin producing content and also learn about lighting your videos and how you may want to upgrade lighting later down the road. The reason I'm saying to still go ahead and use these panels is because I was talking to you as a filmmaker, the people watching you paint arn't coming to the video with a filmmaker eye, they want to see what you're painting. As long as they can see it and learn from it, thats all that matters when you're starting out. So long story short lol, yes these lights will do just that, play around with the orientation to see what look you like. Keep the lights higher than your head and easel and coming down at an angle to avoid the "deer in the headlights look" and hopefully direct the shadows to go more towards the ground. As you get started and grow your content and audience, then you can start looking at more types of lights and how you can manipulate them to do what you want with your garage space. Hope this helps! Hey hey again Peng! To get the light to face down 45 degrees, you need to mount the LED on its "horizontal" slot. There are two slots on the light stand holder part of the yoke. its the one that goes sideways instead of the traditional vertical slot. When you have it mounted that way you'll have full articulation with the softbox on.

Hey hey again Neil! With LED panels you generally cannot really modify them like a snoot would. I guess in theory you could but you'd have to create your own contraption to try and focus down that light. However their source point is not a small single point rather a bunch of LED's creating the source, so its harder to get a super sharper light like a COB would.

Mainly because you are going to get lower output that is going to make it difficult for you to use the LED for video applications where you are standing away from the camera. If you are sitting at a desk for Zoom where the Light is right in front of your face in close quarters. Then the 480 is more viable in those situations (diffused or not). Long story short, if you are going to be standing up and these panels are going to be anywhere from 3-5 feet away from you, the 480 is not a good idea. There is definitely a whole other side of this story that requires you to have a good understand of what camera you are using and how it behaves in high ISO settings. If you are just starting out and you are still learning all of this, than the 660 is still your best bet. You always want to have more light than you need than to have less than you require. For food photography, I would actually suggest these Neewer 660s, the reason I say this is because in my most recent video I did a series of color tests, and the Neewer 660 (2.4ghz version) LED color reproduction is very similar to known high CRI lights. Food photography, not so much because you can use a tripod for the shot. But portrait, after diffusing the light so that it doesn't look harsh on your model, you would be trying to accomplish shots at low shutter speeds depending on how far you have the light away from the model and out of your picture frame. Hey hey again David! I would personally suggest you go with something else than these LED panels. With Green screen you want something that floods lights evening instead of having a hotspot. I generally recommend people just use a 4 socket softbox and populate it with 100w equiv LED bulbs you get at any department story. Get two or four of these softboxes so you can light the green screen as evenly as possible. While this setup is not as flashy looking, it does the job!

Main reason is because you want a even amount of light hitting the screen. Shining bare lights at the green screen will create hot spots. The "daylight" LED's from this Neewer is similar enough (in skin tones) to the aputures that it shouldn't look too weird. However depending on your future lighting ideas. I think the 100d right now is on sale still for $170 USD. So maybe think about future setups and see if you may need another high power LED and take advantage of the deal since it puts it near the same price as the Amaran 60d. But if you really need just a cheap fill, the neewer 660 will do just fine. However its not gonna be too powerful compared to the 100d if you have that up at full blast, and the further diffusion of the Neewer Fill will really kill off the output. So make sure you take these into consideration when you are determining the Neewer 660d or either the Amaran 60d or another 100d. Thanks again for stopping by! I sincerely wished that they gave us Linear Focus Algorithm in this recent firmware update, it was the one thing that I would have wanted, but alas a missed opportunity for Panasonic to really make their MFT lenses more desirable for filmmakers. I would personally go with that one because of its nature being a larger laminated surface area compared to the 660 panel. The flapjack light will be a more pleasing and softer looking light on your face where as you'd have to buy an additional diffusion box or material for the 660 to achieve the same thing. The 660 is meant to be more of an all-round and can be adapter to other scenarios. Where as if you wanted the round flapjack to have more output, you can't really get that as the diffusion is built in. Don't let the last thing I said deter you, I was speaking as a narrative filmmaker in which my scenario and settings change constantly. If you know that the soul purpose of the flapjack is to light your face. Then I would go for the flapjack over the 660. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! This will depend on your desired camera settings, how far your keylight is away from you for your composition, and then from there how far away your fill light is to stay out of the shot. These are the factors that will determine if the F7 will be enough or not, unfortunately because I am not there seeing what the camera see's I can not give you a definitive answer. That being said I would always opt for the more powerful option in this case, because you just never know how much power you may need, better to have more than not enough. If the fill reflector board is only 2ft away from you, then an F7 may have enough punch to give you options, if its further than that I would opt for the 660. Hope this helps! If you're just doing med close up shots and not full wide body shots, than these lights might be just enough as you can get them in close to fill the shadow side of your face (without diffusion) I didn't see any videos on your channel for me to get an idea of what you're working with. But if you do upload a sample video, I can check it out, let me know what camera you're using and what settings you're at with your ISO and lens aperture, from there I can get a better idea of what the ambient lighting conditions are in the forest. Based on the specs the Yongnuo would be able to output a significant amount of power compared to one Neewer 660. However I won't be able to comment what the light quality will be like in terms of color unless I end up reviewing on. But honestly speaking, a lot of the budget LED lights are not that bad these days, the colors are all pretty close. The only difference you'll be looking at is the quality and design of the lights. Honestly both will work just fine, the only reason I would go with the RGB is actually because of its LED chip being SMD. So its not as focused as the normal 660 that is "lensed". This makes it so that you can illuminate the dedicated softboxes more evenly. You will take a slight output hit going with the RGB version, however if you control the lighting in the room and keep that keylight nice and close just out of frame so that you don't have to jack up your camera settings. These neewer 660's will match up to the bi-color version but the other two Aputure daylight only version will have more raw output. The Aputure also has a floor and spot version while these Neewer 660 are spot beam in nature. Ideally you'll want to have a more flood beam when lighting the green screen so that you don't get a hotspot. Rim lights can be either Flood or spot depending on your needs. Hope this helps! Found it! For anyone else with the same issue: press and hold the M button on the remote and the channel on the panel will start blinking. Now use the brightness knob on the panel to change the channel. Press M again to leave that mode and your'e good to go!

I feel they'd be similar as most LED chips are all hitting a similar budget standard in terms of color reproduction, but if its something that may bother you, try to find the 2.4ghz version that has the LCD screen on the control panel. Hmm, it could just be the light stand spigot is not the right dimensions so there is too much wiggle room from the lights yoke mounting point. You could use some cloth or other materials around the light stand spigot to see if you can tighten things up. As for the yoke do you mean the part that helps the panel tilt? My versions are a little funky in that the barn doors makes it hard to tighting things up all the way cause the yoke knob is hitting it. So I usually have to close the doors a little so that I can tighten all the way. Not really a big deal with the barn door slightly closed as the LED panel spreads a spot beam rather than a flood beam. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! That is strange, I didn't realize the 660's were different, ugh thats a little frustrating because the wireless function is definitely useful, but to get the pack I have and shelling out another $56 for two softboxes... I think if it came down to it, I would still get the softbox pack and forgo the wireless functionality. It's useful when I need it, but I think i've only ever used the wireless function on my other lights 2 times in two years. But still, strange that there are two different versions of the 660 lights with no way to know unless you looked at the pictures. @@TLDR_filmmaker The remote control is definitely a plus, but the main feature that caught my attention is the LCD display at the back. This small screen allows you to precisely set the desired light output you want which allows for consistency in exposure when shooting videos. For e.g. imagine you're a very active photographer and videographer who uses the lights a lot, if you don't have an LCD screen to know your numbers exactly, it'll be very difficult to set the lights to your default settings for your videos. Great review BTW.

I totally hear ya, I see a Third version now? Seems like theres one with no readout what-so-ever, then theres another where it has a dot matrix display that may give you two numbers to show either Kelvin or Brightness, and then you have the one I have thats more detailed. Boy I have no idea why they are all called 660's without a "version" number to differentiate.

Hey hey Anthony! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! In terms of raw power output to get the soft light you'd want, the Godox would be the better solution. However because you're in a small dorm room and I'm assuming you won't be trying to capture a wide shot and just a simple medium close up, the 660 with a softbox attachment (i'm currently reviewing it right now) may be the best bet. This will of course be determined by how you are setting up your lights (no natural outdoor lights competing against it) and your camera + lens combination. In the tests I show it puts out a good amount of power at f2.8 ISO400 on a gh5. Adding a softbox or diffusion material in front of it will cut the overall light output by a decent amount, but that f-stop and ISO setting should still be ok when you have complete control of the lighting in the small room. This is my best take on what your filming situation you're describing and how I would go about using this panel+softbox to light myself and how I would frame the shot to ensure I have the light close enough with the softbox to give me a soft light. You're correct that I want to capture a simple medium close up, though I do plan on some overhead shots ( maybe 7-8 feet high up) in my set up. I do have a window in my room which faces north (on my right), and I need to throw a white sheet over it to diffuse the light a little. The keylight would have to be on my left- at max I can position the light no more than 5 feet from me. If I film in daylight would the Neewer 660 still have a strong enough output to compete with the sun? This is especially if I use the diffusion panel provided, and a softbox or soft fabric in front of it. Also I realize with a bi color panel I would have to crank up both yellow and whites to get the max Lux/Lum that they offer. The thing is I would love to use whatever light I buy, for photography lighting as well. I'm currently watching your GVM 150D review just to get another perspective on the whole single led continuous lighting set up. Because I'm sitting only 2.5 feet away from the camera I have my settings at F2.8 and lens at 16mm (it's a 16-55mm zoom lens). Hey hey Danielle! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! This is kind of a two part answer. In short, yes, two of these would light you up for a video placed at 6-10 feet away from you. On the technical side, if you are only using these two lights and not trying to use maybe some window light or existing light in the room (assuming they are also daylight balanced) the lighting would look a little harsh. Essentially the further away you put the lights, the harsher it may look. I'm not sure how you plan to use the lights, but these are some things to think about. Three lights would probably be the best bet so that you create a sort of "TV stage" lighting setup. One in the center, the remaining two on each side of center. Some general tip is to stay away from a back wall as far as you can, as this type of lighting will cast a shadow on the wall (if you're trying to negate that look). Essentially when you are trying to film the full body for a dance video, you're going to need more lights to try and balance the entire shot between you and the background so that the video doesn't look too harsh. This is a general idea for you to think about as the way you're going to be using these lights are different from a youtuber who is sitting or standing close to the camera. Hope this helps! Hey hey Julian! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Nope, as I said in the opening TLDR section, there is no flicker. Generally speaking LED these days don't technically have flicker because of either voltage dimming on higher end LEDs, and High PWM on budget LED's. High PWM are usually around 10khz or 16khz, which means its pulsing so fast that the only way you're going to be able to see any sort of flicker is if you record your videos (or photos) past 1/10000th shutter speed. If you are just doing make up tutorials on youtube, you'll probably want two of them to light both sides of the face and shoot it through diffusion (which I see you saw the follow up video). If you are a professional makeup artist for film sets, I don't see this a lot on the independent sets, but I have heard of this for professionals where they will enquire what type of lighting is being used in the scene (daylight, tungsten, are there RGB in the scene) so that the makeup artist can enhance or get the right color on the actors/actresses, otherwise the colors in the scene could shift the colors of the makeup. So with all that out of the way, this panel is nice and cheap, produces decent enough colors between the daylight and tungsten spectrum for video. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by!
