HIM was one of the first metal bands I got into and have nostalgia for them, so I'm willing to check out this album.

Indeed, what l find interesting are the ones who comment on how much it sounds like HIM. They call it HIM 2.0, but he wrote and arranged a lot of the former music so his solo stuff would showcase that. In a recent interview he remarked that he found it funny how people kept focusing on him as a frontman when he was in HIM, and now, all some folks do is focus on the members of HIM now that he is a soloist. I am just glad he is back with his ethereal voice, sounding even better than ever.

@@HoneyDrops2023 I too have been calling it HIM 2.0 😆 but because I feel this is an extension of HIM as he was the writer for all of HIMs songs and he’s actually the whole band this time around 😆You can tell tho with Neon Noir he wanted to play around even more with all his influences.

They even had some pop influences, especially from 80s bands, he gives a nod to that cotton candy era and I adore it. Duran Duran, Bowie, and the like. I really did enjoy your review, one of the best I have seen, gives VV's style justice. Subscribed!

i agree with most of your points. I always found that the strength of HIM and by extension Ville was not the abums, but the songs (almost in isolation). Ville is just a really good song writer. The fact that he was blessed eith crazy vocal range and a very entrancing voice is a bonus. I'd say the album is a 7.5 or 8, but more than 50% the songs themselves are absolute gothic rock bangers. Overall a must listen for 2023

It's a weird album but in a really good way. It feels familiar like you're just listening to HIM but with a bunch of like 80s synthwave soundtrack shit thrown in. Basically he took all of the cheesy 80s vibes from Screamworks and ran with it.

Honestly I didn’t know about His Infernal Majesty (HIM) until a few years ago. Reminded me of what would happen if you put the Cure, The Cult, Depeche Mode, Katatonia, Paradise Lost and Type O Negative in a blender. I’m a pretty decent fan of them though. Really enjoy Ville’s vocals a lot though, I’ll give this a listen.

Used to be a fan of HIM because of Bam Margera. I grew out of it but I sometimes go back to “circle of fear” I think that’s hands down their best song.

This moment had to happen..... I don't agree with your opinion. I think this record is boring and weak. I failed to hear most of songs till their end, that's not good recommendation. From all enthusiastic comments i recognize that i'm in minority, maybe because i was not HIM fan. So, not my piece of cake, have fun, enjoy, but without me.
