By the way, if you want to get Beowulf, at least flavor wise, grab some Gauntlets of Ogre Power so you now have a 19 in STR, than use the Spirit Shroud spell to add Radiant damage to your unarmed strikes. This allows your unarmed attacks to deal at least 1d8 Radiant and 4 Bludgeoning damage, possibly more with higher spell slots. Such a shame Wizards can't learn Destructive Wave. Then you'd have the Hell on Earth finisher. Also Vergil's Bladesong is just Bury the Light. XD
Good vid. Here's my take. Rolled very well for a new campaign. Somewhat of a copy paste of my build description to friends who don't know who Vergil is. Variant Human 12/18/14/18/15/14, slasher feat. Lvl 1: Fighter 1. We want the Str/Con saves, and we're going here anyway. Dueling. Lvl 2: Monk 1. Unarmored defense of 16, bonus action punchies. Vergil likes martial arts. Vergil don't wear no armor. Lvl 3: Monk 2. +10 movement, couple ki points for flurry/dodge/run fast. Dedicated weapon turns longsword into a monk weapon. Good to go for Yamato. Lvl 4: Wizard 1. Defensive and buffing spells. Blade cantrips. Longstrider +10 movement? Magic missile. Lvl 5: Wizard 2: Bladesinger. Bladesong gives another +10 movement, and adds int to ac (+4). Adds int to concentration. Bladesinging is basically DT. Lvl 6-9: Wizard 3-6: More defensive and buffing spells. Haste, misty step, mirror image, shadow blade(monk weapon), ect. We moving rly fking fast now. Bladesinger's extra attack. Swing + Blade cantrip. Boost int or dex to 20. Lvl 10: Fighter 2: Action Surge Lvl 11: Fighter 3: Echo Knight. Two heads are better than one. Unleash incarnation for more attacks. Doppleganger. Lvl 12-20 Wizard 7-15. More of the same. Lvl 14 feature adds int to weapon damage, including unarmed. Blow your spell slots on reducing damage with the bladesinger feature.
I feel like the 8 in wisdom actually fits pretty well. While he is an amazing planner, his experience of the actual world are imperfect and skewed one-sided towards an apex system of predation. He will do anything to gain more power, his loss that resulted in him becoming Nelo Angelo being fuel for that desire, and only by making sure that all beneath him are crushed will he never again allow himself to be preyed upon. This creates a viscous blind cycle of desperation for strength due to the number of times he’s lost to Dante, and dare I say even somewhat of an unaddressed inferiority complex expressed by the hatred Sparda instilled by sparking an unchecked rivalry between them. Edit: also, Sapping Sting would work in place of True Strike. Its use in combat is really effective, and comparatively while True Strike can be used as a setup fodder cantrip it doesn’t really fit Virgil’s fighting style - ruthless and unrelenting. He barely pauses to give his opponent a chance to regain composure and is usually the one to strike first.
Would note the fact that you as a Bladersinger, you can cast a Cantrip in place of your second attack (dunno if you can do so for both attacks). meaning that your Shocking Grasp, Booming Blade, Sword Burst, ETC. are all easily on the table.
@@tabletopnephilim4633 Understandable. Also, true enough, I suppose the Otherworldly Guise DT would be more of a Boss!Vergil build than Playable!Vergil build.
if you want to be a little less... lets say "creative", for the focus, Vergil does often hold the saya of Yamato in his left hand, maybe that can be the focus (DM allowing, of course)
I'd say it's more creative than you think. Eventually I want to do a build on King Arthur, and plan to use either an Amulet of Health or a Periapt of Wound Closure and reflavor it as Excalibur's scabbard.
I would make him an protecter aasimar Lorhold College student (for the spells). College of swords Bard 14 hex blade warlock 3 and Echo Knight fighter 3. Magical secret spells I would take is spiritual weapon and steal wind strike at level 10, Summon fiend and conjure animals at level 14.
is there any reason Tenser's Transformation is used instead of Tasha's Otherworldly Guise? I feel like with the wings and the connection with the lower planes it may fit better, at least as a Sin Devil Trigger.
@@tabletopnephilim4633 I've brainstormed incorporating astral self into a Nero build. Works as a DT as well as giving him his spectral punches. Never settled on a full build that I liked, though.
Because he's half devil, not half angel. It's still a good option for a minor Devil Trigger, I just personally don't feel it's accurate to the character. Unless you're talking DMC Vergil.
Standard tiefling has +1 Int/+2 Cha, how are you getting +1 Dex/+2 Int? Only one I could find is the variant from SCAG that did that but with +1 Int/+2 Dex. Not asking to be nit-picking, but one of my players is using this build lol
Floating scores. Either Tasha's was out by the time I made this, or I'd heard that they were giving the option to ignore racial scores and put them where you want. Since I also used Bladesinging, which was Elf exclusive before Tasha's, I think Tasha's was already out. I'm also going to start using the rules from the new Mordenkainen book in my future videos, using either a +2 and a +1 or three +1s. Also hearing that someone is using my build made my day.
@@tabletopnephilim4633 Yea, since it's my first time DMing a 5e campaign I decided give them a sturdier spread. I think we're going with the variant from SCAG, going with two-weapon instead of duelist, and picking up dual wield at 4 instead of ASI. He's going to be using Yamato's sheath as a secondary when not using bonus actions on echo shenanigans and whatnot. With the spread we're using he should still be on track to max dex and int by 12.
