in terms of story and scenario progression the only place they could have taken the series would be interplanetary adventures. Save the last Argonians from Zoda in space, that's pretty much all they could do with it. so they should do it
@@ChibiKami They didn't take the "back in time" theme as seriously as you might expect, so I dunno there was some wiggle room for more wacky adventures in strange places. Not that I have any ideas to put forward, aside from "let's explore Dr J's past!"
I really like a lot of the mid summer 90 and onwards action games on the NES. I think it was just a combination of both the memory they could stuff into a cart and action games in general coming into their own at the same time that made a lot of those titles just really good and a lot of them were one-offs (like VICE). I'd also add Low G Man into the mix. Yeah, it's a stupid 'super hero', but the game has some cool mechanics and I really dug that each vehicle he can drive has 'secret moves', which as the walker's mega jump which is used to find secret areas.
@@heavysystemsinc. Both great games, and I played the hell out of Low-G-Man. I only got to try out Vice Project Doom later, I think it came out around or after the SNES, but I missed out until much later. Shame, too, it's a winner for sure!
Yeah, I recently re-played that on Switch and it is a really solid game with cool mechanics. I was glad for the rewind feature, tho, because I am too old to be good at hard games XD
I found it confusing and annoying. Still played it cause there was nothing else to play in my household. It was that... or read books. I like books now. Then I didn't!! haha.
I’m over here drunk as fuck at the moment while playing Mario Kart on my switch while in bed. Then I get the SNES Drunk notification of a new video he has posted...there hasn’t been a lot of good days this year...but today is a good one...it’s all the simple things that have got us through 2020. Thank you for everything you do for us homie✊🏿
My cousin and I somehow beat Ninja Crusaders as 6 year olds. I picked it up last month and I can't even beat the first level. Getting old fucking sucks.
@@Rayzorbladez I never did own it back when I was at my peak with regards to video game skills, so I didn't get to beat it. I did get to beat stuff like The Lion King, and Aladdin on Sega Genesis and a few other tough old games.
I remember begging my mom for Chip n Dale rescue rangers in the store.."Mom I want Chip n Dale". She looked at me in horror and said "That's not for children!"..i had to explain that it was the chipmunk cartoon. She thought I meant the male dancers
That reminds me of when my Gran asked me what I wanted for Christmas one year, and I said "Gran, I want a Transformer!". She said "I Think we've got one of those in the loft." I had to go and look...
Silent Service would've definitely benefited from the SNES mouse. Actually surprised A Boy & his blob didn't have any SNES games, since it even had a GB game. Least it somewhat got a revival during the Wii years.
Little Nemo was on every kid's short list of games they wanted, so no, not really underrated. A sequel would probably have to delve into territory from the comic strip, as the game itself was based on the animated movie
I don't think Little Samson is underrated, just unknown. No one talks about it because they either haven't heard of it or haven't played it (and due to its ebay pricetag...).
I use to watch an episode of SNESDrunk while brushing my teeth since they mostly have the perfect length, but I've recently come to the point that I've seen every episode available. I even split up the longer ones so I still had something to watch. Now I'm very happy everytime I see a new episode coming up (and my teeth are too!) :D
Excellent list! Felix the Cat, Rescue Rangers & Kickle Cubicle were so great on the NES. It's really sad & a wasted opportunity that these titles didn't make it over to the SNES. I'd also like to add Bubble Bobble & Snow Brothers as honorable mentions.
For me, it's Hebereke (localized as Ufouria: The Saga, but you're better off playing the Hebereke translation patch). A Hebereke sequel could have been amazing. There is a lot of room for a unique, Metroid-like adventure platformer to evolve in the jump to 16-bit. There are actually a lot of weird Hebereke spin-offs for the Super Famicom, and some of them are visually magnificent, which makes me even more disappointed that a sequel never materialized.
@@eclipsetnb I saw Ufouria in the back pages of Nintendo Power as a kid, but it was never brought to the US. I finally got it play it in college and it was a great game!
Felix the Cat is a very cool playthrough, even being a fairly easy game. The level design and different forms you may assume are neat and fun. A lot of potential to become a great platformer on the SNES
@@rootbeer_666 Damn, we got it for a friend's birthday party. We played it for hours, reached the final boss, and someone came out of the bathroom and tripped on the console.
Hey Mr. Drunk. I would just like to thank you for your content. I've been subscribed to your channel for a few years now, and I think your videos are great! They take me back to my childhood, when things seemed to be a bit more simple and a whole lot more fun. I'm eagerly looking forward to next few years of content, perhaps covering games from even more consoles like the N64 and PS1 (after you've run out of older games to review, of course). Thank you again and have a great new year!
Ah the Chip and Dale NES games, I remember playing them back in the day and finished them (It was common in bootleg Famiclones). Because you mentioned one of Sid Meier's classic games, I hope you do a video on the Civilization SNES port one day.
@Sandman Slim When you say that, the first thing that comes to mind is a review that says"_Felix the Cat Comes Back_ is the _Dark Souls_ of mascot platformers."
Kickle Cubicle was one of my favorite NES games growing up, that combo of timed puzzles and comical animal boss battles was just so good. Adventures of Lolo was also a game in that same flavor that really needed a modern sequel, and I was always surprised it never got one on SNES.
And it has a very adorable, hi-res sprites art style and is a lot of fun! It's broken up into separate, simpler levels now, for better or worse. But there's lots of optional treasures to try to collect, and lots of challenge levels too. It's a great game. It's $10 on Steam ($7 sale right now).
Little Nemo and Pipe Dream are two games that should have had sequels on the SNES. Also, Marble Madness. I know it had a playable demo and was later scrapped but it really should have had a sequel.
Me and my brother loved the Chip 'n Dale game as kids (and the Rescue Rangers cartoons too) Being used to Super Mario, it was just mindblowing being able to play a platformer simultaneously and that we could even stun each other! But i never knew the game got a sequel, time to check it out!
Man, Little Samson was a real gem. I didn’t get to finish it, but I loved it. I’ve been thinking about Silent Service recently because I have been watching a WWII documentary channel for a couple of years now; I used to have it as a kid but I totally didn’t get it, and now I want to replay it.
Speaking of Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers; how about an Darkwing Duck sequel? No. Not counting the Turbo16 one. That one sucks. I mean an actual good Darkwing Duck sequel. The NES one; while good, left out on other villians that were abcent in the original like NegaDuck of course, Tuarus Bulba, Jumbo Jambalaya and many others. Have it played like Mega Man 7 or the X series. That would be cool.
Absolutely love your channel bro! 🤘🤘 Love seeing when my phone says you've posted a new video! I'm 40 and love the nes and snes and you've shown me games I've never heard about. I even imported all 3 Parodius games after watching your video about them! They're funny as hell but dear God they're hard! 🤣
Yeah, Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers would have been great as an SNES title, even if they decided to remaster it and give the original 8-bit game a 16-bit coat of paint. I love how you played the intro to Zones A, C, E, and I think I. Ahhh, memories.
i always appreciate it when someone mentions KICKMASTER as a superb game that not too many people care about, same as SWORD MASTER , that is one game i wish the snes had a sequel, it needed bigger sprites and more buttons to make an already great game even better.
It's funny that you mention Chip and Dale right before Little Samson since basically that game did what Chip n Dale didn't in bringing different type of characters to play (although without multiplayer).
Im trying to learn Pico 8 and man its mind blowing how much ideas you could gather from old systems games, nes master system but GBC tops all to me, sooo much potential still untapped
There was an arcade version of Kickle Cubicle with a polished 16-bit look! It was called Meikyūjima. Also, A Boy and His Blob got a sequel on the Wii of all things, but I haven't spent any time with it. Heard good things, though!
Good news, Felix the Cat went public domain. I'm considering making the sequel myself, that game was pretty ambitious for those days. I can do a 16 bit style, but it would be rendered graphics like Donkey Kong Country. That aside, great video! I never even thought about the good games that deserved sequels back then!
Kick Master was super good! I played it for the first time a couple years ago and couldn't believe it was an NES-era game because of all the unique ideas it has. Ninja Crusader looks like a hybrid of Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania so I think I'll check that one out.
Finally talking about Ninja Crusaders on here? Awesome! I loved that game, but I never beat it because it was so difficult. It is easier in two player because as long as one of you survives you don't get sent back to the beginning of the level. Oh, and A Boy and His Blob got a remake. I think it is on Steam now.
It's a common misconception that we are attracted by gravity to the surface of the Earth. In fact it is Sgt. Slaughter's chin that keeps us from floating off into the infinity.
I played co-op Ninja Crusaders with my friend. It was really hard. There were 4 forms your ninjas could assume: Tiger, eagle, scorpion and dragon. The dragon form was almost cheating, as it not only made you invincible but allowed you to bypass entire platforming sections. The only catch was it had a time limit, and it was almost impossible to find.
Felix the Cat was a great rental game. I rented it a couple times. It was short and easy, but lots of fun. As a kid that had not much money to spare it says a lot if I rented a game more than once.
6:26 ...culminating in Super Kickle Cubicle 5, only released in Japan, with 5-player critter-riding revenge-cart action. Yeah that does sound pretty awesome.
The thing with a Boy and HIs Blob is that Absolute Entertainment was based out of Glen Rock, New Jersey. Although all of his colleagues moved to New Jersey, David Crane stayed in California and worked from home. Nowadays, its easy to send code through e-mail, but back then, it wasnt so easy. I never understood what they went through by having David Crane stay in California, no one really can from back then.
Definitely seconding Little Sampson and kickmaster! I loved both of these growing up. I would also throw out a vote for Power Blade, Star Tropics, and Demon Sword. Just checked old videos. You already covered Demon Sword.
While it is out of the scope of 'retro' consoles I'd like to point out that a remake (or more like reimagening) of a Boy and his Blob came out on the Wii. I played it and loved it. It has charm, many puzzles and is a lot more forgiving when it comes to game structure. Instead of having one giant map you have to complete many smaller levels, each giving you a small selection of various jellybeans. Use them correctly to finish the level. There are even boss fights in this one too. Definitely recommend.
Idk if anyone is aware but Kickmaster and Low G Man were programmed by an icon by the name of Mr. Yagawa that made Battle Geregga and Batrider, Bakraid, Ibara, Recca, and Muchi Muchi Pork and Pink Sweets. He started how high it's cool how is career developed started with KID. He is still around working with City Connection.
God, I try not to look at the prices of certain NES games, but is Little Samson really over 1000 now for a loose cart? Thats just disgusting. I am hoping Limited Run Games can do an official re-release of it some day like they just did for Shadow of the Ninja.
Great picks. I wonder how a sequel to the Famicom exclusive, Crisis Force, would have turned out. A Boy and His Blob did receive a remake in the Wii era, though.
