Working nights at a factory, my new co-worker and I decided to bring in a coffee pod machine so we could have "Real coffee" as a bit of a perk. I said I'd pick up a machine and he said no need, he has his own. And he fills his own pods with good coffee. Now I've had a pod machine before. Not great but also no comparison to instant coffee. I was interested in what a pod machine could do with a re-usable metal pod filled with fresh ground coffee. One night he pulls me away from the machines to come get a coffee, face beaming like a kid showing off his favorite toy. Espresso cup in hand, he takes a sip. "Phwoar, that's some good coffee." he says with a delighted grin. "Here, I'll show you how to do it." He retrieves the metal pod from the machine and opens it. There's nothing inside. Confused at this sleight of hand, I watch in horror as he took a teaspoon and heaped instant coffee into the pod.
@@Joe-me6jh to be fair my old work, the canteen had a Starbucks machine or instant coffee. I always chose the instant coffee because I really don't fancy paying to taste Starbucks lol The work before that was in a specify coffee shop, so obviously the difference was night and day and I missed having free good coffee with lots of choice
I love these. I love that James has repeatedly stated his endorsement of this channel. I want to know if the out takes are from his published episodes, but I'm too lazy to study all his shows to find out. However its done, and by whom, I'm just glad to enjoy this.
Since I started watching James Hoffman, I stopped using my Nespresso, bought a burr grinder, kettle, coffee scale, and now drink a French press and pour over 😂😂😂 my family thinks I’m crazy - but wow the coffee tastes good
It's not enough.You have to buy Ph test strips,temp-re gauge,bitterness tester,lactometer,densimeter and transransreductional nuclear homogeniser with spare tea strainer
My family thinks the same. I went from a normal drip coffee machine to french press, chemex and aeropress. Whenever I make a coffee they look at me like I'm insane because of how much work (which isn't even much) goes into making a cup. Once they tasted the difference though, they understood it a bit more. They still see it as too much of a hassle for a cup of coffee. I don't know, I find making my coffee relaxing though lol
I went into my new offices for the first time last week and was told they have amazing coffee so I didn't need to take my own gear. It was all Nespresso pods. I didn't taste cereal, but there was a lot of "no" going on. Guess who'll be wondering around the office grinding coffee again.
@@racingphotographer8251: I don’t disagree with your assessment of keurig. I feel that Nespresso is worse than keurig because it is marketed as a premium product, complete with its own pretentious stores. Meanwhile, both systems can be outperformed by one with decent coffee and a cheap coffee or espresso maker.
@@GeorgeBobeck I've been waiting for James to test (and trash) Keurig the way he trashed all that Chinese-made IKEA garbage. Watery and weak because extraction time is way too short, the water isn't hot enough, and there's zero pressure. You can't say those things about Nespresso Original Line, as much as you hate them. The coffee inside is bad (stale for starters) and the pod design can't hold a candle to a portafilter, I get that.
I actually like Vertuo... There's a convenience, consistency and variety to them that is everything I need in the way of coffee. I have an enormous selection of Vertuo capsules in a jar and picking one out several times a day brings me so much joy.
I hope your taste buds recover. I've not bought any Nestle product for several decades so wouldn't have tasted even one of these but thanks for saving us all from any chance of buying them.
It just hit me that the reason so many of them are marketed with "cereal" notes is definitely because they're like "people drink coffee in the morning" "what else do people consume in the morning, we gotta remind people of morning so they buy our coffee for the morning" "cereal?" "yes brilliant"
It's worth noting that the machine manufacturer, Nestlé, of course also sell a lot of cereal. They're trying to make their cereal sound more exciting by associating the word itself as a positive flavour note. Maybe one day they'll sell pods "with hints of baby formula, and water stolen from indigenous peoples"?

I had Nespresso for the first time at a shop/cafe in Beverly Hills, just because my husband and I wanted a quick date time. The coffee was so horrible, and I thought it was because I had chosen the wrong plant milk, but now I see it was the coffee itself.
I like this very much and want to see these videos get shorter and more surreal and perhaps to start even saying things he never intended with some creative editing.

Hello, I started drinking nespresso since 2011, and I can tell you that the quality is not the same. It was luxurious from the machines to the coffee pods. FYI, the country names on the coffee boxes were added 2 years back only. It's just marketing and has nothing to do with the countries.
Gotta be honest, my favorite video by Hames so far. I had to stop a total of 6 times due to incontrollable laughter. I so have to tell you though, Hames, from my experience absolutely nobody in Stockholm will be offended by the city being associated with bad coffee. Same goes for Sweden in general.
Many other brands make pods compatible with the Nespresso Original Line. Would love for James to taste some of those and let us know if he finds any that are good.
Someone gave me a few cases of pods. Not knowing anyone with that machine to give them to, and not wanting to throw them out, I bought a $50 machine on ebay. Might cost ten cents a cup. Zero if I sell the machine. Tastes fine.
The first time I roasted on a popcorn machine it stalled before first crack as the thermostat was set too low, it tasted just like unsweetened corn puffs (had to brew it to see out of pure curiosity). I brewed some more for a colleague and he actually loved it. I wasn't disgusted by it but it basically tasted of hot liquid cereal with no discernible coffee flavour.
I ignorantly and hastily bought an 'Espressotoria' machine recently. What a disappointment. The pods you're required to purchase make a very disappointing coffee. I'd love to see James react to the Vittoria pods.
I guess my palate is not that great since I don't find Nespresso pods offensive, not all are decent, but it is a quick and easy way to get some coffee. Considering the gear you have to purchase and skills you have to learn to be able to achieve decent espresso it is an ok shortcut for the lazy people with regular coffee machines.
I don’t like most of the nespresso pods, especially the ones listed as low on the intensity scale. However, I do like the 2 pods, Kazaar and India/Indian. What’s bizarre too is they sometimes have more flavor on the initial sip then the last half; whereas coffee shop espresso usually has a more consistent taste throughout the whole coffee.
I got a la pavoni grinder and machine but i had a nespresso before i got this. The nespresso machine was the cheapest looking one without a manual lever and it was good the first few years tbh. I do however think that if you get a high quality one with pressure adjustment etc it should be pretty good since the capsules could be roasted and vacuumed packed right away as well as provide a cookie cutter taste profile if you would hire this guy for instance? Wouldnt they actually be really freaking good? I mean as good as they possible could be
