I know that they were very underwhelming in the group stages by their standards, but given how far they’ve gotten in this tournament and them not having to go up against an elite team until the final, no one is taking the Netherlands as a serious contender for the EUROs. It’s anyone’s tournament to win at this point especially since there has been many small teams that are giving the top teams a run for their money meaning that they’re making them work for the win and that’s always been the case with those teams in major tournaments. Personally, I think that Spain and Germany who’ll play each other in the quarterfinals have been the best teams of the tournament so far, and while the likes of France England and Portugal haven’t been knocked out yet despite playing so poorly, they’ve had some wobbles and we’re yet to truly be convinced by them and the Netherlands are in between. It took them a while for them to get going, but beating Romania 3-0 is exactly the confidence booster that this team really needed because you have to continue plugging away and that’s what they did after they scored the first goal as they managed to kill the opposition off later in the game while being patient and taking their chances when they had to. They’re a team that has been slept upon to win the EUROs and it’s true that their chances of winning this tournament is kinda slim, they’re not short of quality players in their squad and that alone is what makes them a massive threat. Cody Gakpo is the one who’s carrying the team and with the form that he’s in anything can happen and alongside him is Xavi Simons who’s an exceptional talent, as good as Memphis Depay can be on his day, he’s such an inconsistent player and he can be frustrating to watch as you don’t know what version you’ll get from him and while there’s concerns that they don’t have an elite number 9, they have a good attack on paper, Donyell Malen scored an own goal in the last game and came up with a brace today off the bench, in defense they have 2 elite center backs in Virgil Van Dijk and Nathan Ake who are excellent when they’re in top form and whatever you think of Denzel Dumfries, there’s a reason why he’s starting over one of the most in form players in the world in Jeremie Frimpong and that tells you how good this team is. With how unpredictable this tournament has been even if it won’t happen, what if the Netherlands manages to go on and win the EUROs. I think that they need have some continuity within their team as that’s the most important thing and once it all clicks, they could possibly make it to the final and with their matchup against Turkey in the quarterfinals it won’t me a straight forward game for them especially with the way that the underdogs tending to play at their best against strong opposition.

I am Romanian. I knew we were gonna have a very tough match, and I'm sure the dutch are happy. That being said, I do wonder why they got so mucj help from the ref. DUMFRIES should have gotten a yellow and us awarded a penalty after he violently hit our nr 10 in the head. You remember that he played with a bandage on his head for the rest of the match. Maybe that hindered his regular play for the rest of the game. Then at min 30 aprox. The same DUMFRIES violently hits and effectively takes out another player, forcing a substitution. This should have been at least yellow and in 10 men from min 30... Idk... Minute 80 apox we have a good counter Nd our very fast player is on the ball and the closest to the dutch keeper and the ref stops the play because the same player, DUMFRIES fakes being hit. It was only 1-0 to Netherlands and that tims. Third goal should have not happened as the ref and officials should have stopped the game and remove the two sneakers of the pitch. Our keeper is looking at an incoming player and quickly kicks on of the sneakers away to not hinder him from saving, a couple of seconds before Malen shoots. Moral of the story : don't pat yourselves on the back too much. You have better players, but it's a shame you also relied to heavily on the referee. You decide for yourself, I just stated the facts.

After that, he faked a kick to the head, while on a yellow. The referee somehow awarded a yellow to Stanciu there. That referee has taken bribes early in his career btw. Sure Netherlands are a better team. However Dumfries should've realistically been sent off. He's been disguistingly dirty and that referee protected him.
