I’m so glad I found your videos. I’m interested in doing my community colleges network administration program but the more I think about it the more I feel I would fail in the tech world.
Hello, sir! I just want to thank you for these very informative videos. I am 22 years old currently studying first year network administration. The experience I am getting from your videos I feel is very valuable in learning what it's like as an actual Network Admin, as well as some actual problems you may face in a day. I hope you keep on making these videos in the future. I have a lot of videos to catch up on still but I am going to watch all of them over the course of the next month or so! Thanks for the work you put into making videos, and sharing knowledge with us. You earned a new sub!
The thumbnail for this video... with you in a surgical garb . . and with your finger in the air . . . reminds me of a test I had done once upon a time...
While I am not a big linux server person, what I learned about kernel panics: One panic is no panic, just reboot and watch the world burn. If panic continues (even with some time passing), something is wrong and should be investigated. In your case, it probably was a fluke panic, and power cycling was the way to go. Just keep an eye on that server for a while in case it panics again.
At this point I am in full agreement with you. Part of my wonders if the panic was caused when it failed over to a different host where promiscuous mode was not configured. God bless!
it depends on the environment that you are in and what type of equipment you use. You can't learn everything, its just not feasable. It's good to be familiar and dabble in multiple different technologies but tell a company to find a guy who is an all in one swiss army knife and then pay him the bare minimum just adds to the foolishness. A lot of time it can be much more beneficial to be siloed into one area of IT such as Networking or Systems or a Developer/Programmer. And then you have to also consider a Security Engineer too, To ask for a guy that does it all but only pay him a one person salary just isn't worth it. Better to be an expert in one field than be mediocre in multiple fields.
When I was younger I wanted to be that guy that new everything. What I found is exactly what you describe: I knew a little about a lot, but was not an expert in any one thing. All of my previous jobs demanded a more "jack-of-all-trades" type person. This is the first job I've had where I have been siloed. I like just having one thing to worry about. It's complicated enough being responsible for the entire network, Internet, and two sets of firewalls. I'm maxed out. God bless!
I do take vacations but I've always had a back up network admin in my boss. Now that she is gone I do NOT intend to STOP taking vacations. It is management's job to deal with that problem. I am not worried at all about being replaced. I'm more worried about them actually finding someone who will stay. We've had several candidates just give up and quit over the years. God bless!
Hey! Grace & Peace 2 U and your family brother! Thanks 4 another great and informative video this week! I know a little something about kernel panic and promiscuous mode! I remember a few questions on a Cisco CCNA exam I took a while back about promiscuous mode on a catalyst switch so while it was a pain for you, It's kinda cool 2 see it in a real world scenario! When In doubt...Reboot And thank you again 4 your continued prayers! I do like the shorts you send out with the prayers! I appreciate the prayer shout out 4 me! Well brother just want to stop by and let you know how much you're appreciated for keeping us in the know with God and Tech! Keep up the great work and God bless you! See U in the next one!🙏🏽
The two things I have used promiscuous mode for: 1-Wireshark, and 2-VSwitches that this controller runs on. Will keep praying for you and pray for me as well. God bless!
